@@valeriududau3218 Yeah Epica is my most favourite band ever. But Nightwish is still in my heart too. I love Sensorium kzbin.info/www/bejne/mamVY4yrn5ehsMk You can see pure talent od Simone Simons. But nobody react to it yet and i think it's a shame. Also Xandria with Dianne van Giersbergen are very good. They're third on my list best symphonic bands. Hello Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Nobody in Nightwish ever stands around on the stage like a spare part. If they aren't playing or singing right now, they leave the stage. Focus is always on the music. And what you felt on that final note - we call that a Floorgasm. I'm happy to assert that symphonic metal is the most complete musical style. You have to be able to play and sing anything - any weakness will be exposed. Floor can sing anything from the gentlest folk to operatic, and then full metal scream and growl. It attracts the smartest audiences too.

Also it's a historical callback. An "epic" song where, in the middle, the band pretend to walk off as a backing-track plays - where have we seen that before?

I grew up with classical music. My wife introduced me to serious rock, subsequent to which I found metal, and then symphonic metal on my own. I've listened to classical long enough (I'm 77) to for lo these past many years seeking out obscure but wonderful composers (Havergal Brian, Charles Tournemeire, Atterberg, Bantock, etc.) who never get played in the U.S. Nightwish is the nearest clean, genuine synthesis of symphonic and rock that I've come across. I've seen a lot of the greats (Queen, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, etc.) but Nightwish is my all-time favorite band. Tuomas Holopainen is not a songwriter: he's a composer. When you get to "The Greatest Show on Earth" (and you will), pay particular attention to the outro.

Please bear in mind that this was written during the Tarja era who you heard sing Phantom of the Opera recently. The final belts were added by Floor as she felt something was missing. This was the 13th song of 15 at the concert and every song written for previous singers, Tarja (1996-2005 operatic) and Anette ( 2007-2012 pop).

124 Spider here. Floor Jansen / Nightwish FAN. Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

People who are less familiar with metal music often don't realise that there are tons of stylistic sub-genres within the larger metal category. And harsher vocal styles can distract some listeners from what are often very intricate musical arrangements of these songs. Metal is heavily influenced by traditional classical music: chords, progressions, and compositional structures. There's a documentary called 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey' that goes over metal history and culture really well, and includes footage from Wacken festival. It's also not uncommon for metal vocalists, including Floor, to have received very solid classical training. Symphonic metal, like Nightwish, can be very surprising to first time listeners, who don't expect to hear something so orchestral and beautiful coexisting with - and even emphasised by - the more intense drumming and electric guitar. Tuomas is very much a virtuoso composer, and every member of the band is a hugely talented performer. You expressed some shock at the vocals being so immaculate in this performance; check out one of their live performances of 'Shoemaker' to have your mind blown again at Floor's technique.

Nick, you have no idea how deep of a rabbit hole you’ve just dived into. Floor has been singing since she was 16 years old. Been in three bands and sings from growling to pure opera. She is classically trained. He can sing multiple languages. Oh and head bang while pregnant. I’m 62 years old and can’t get enough of her voice. Check out her KZbin channel to get a real insight to all she has done. Great source.

Floor's entire body supports her singing. Look at her stance, legs apart, planted, grounded. And then, there at the very end, she raises her arm up and out. A good technique as far as stage presence, yes, but it also expands her chest to its fullest, to give her the extra umph (highly technical term 😉) that she needs to produce that amazing note, at the end of a 10 minute song no less. Nightwish is a band that is worth exploring more, for sure. It's not just Floor, as you mentioned, it's this extremely tight, highly talented band that makes this one unit. You will get many more suggestions on Nightwish songs. And they will all be worth exploring. I'm going to diverge slightly because I think you will find that there are many superb front women in the symphonic metal field. One I would suggest that you take a look at is the band Epica and their front woman Simone Simmons. Based on your background, I think that a good starting place with this band would be the song "Rivers". The version, with the group Apocalyptica at the AFAS Live. Epica is, as is Nightwish, many faceted. This song is a good introduction, but not, by any means, all that this group is capable of.

The BZ2019 versions to look for are the "intro/outro" English subbed ones, with the singers talking before and after the song. Adds a great deal of fun/context. First one, especially for Nick as an opera singer, should of course be: "Floor Jansen - Vilja Lied (2019) + intro and outro (With eng subtitles)".

Floor is incredible, I believe Nightwish record all their orchestral parts with London Philharmonic Orchestra & a choir too. Obviously these are on backing tracks for touring. There are a lot of great songs & live performances from her. One of my faves is the 20 minute epic 'The Greatest Show On Earth' live in Tampere. It's also nature based & about evolution, it's based on a famous book of the same name.

I HIGHLY recommend their latest single "Lanternlight" from their newly(yesterday) released Album "Yesterwynde" Its especially a song about the guy on the keyboard Tuomas, who is also known as the "Metal-Mozart", and that for a reason ! Tuomas writes, composes and arranges everything, including the orchestral parts, played by a real orchestra of course. Floor in this one is simply....otherworldy, i really cant describe it otherwise. Tuomas melodies, harmonys and lyrics performed by Floor and Troy are for me, actually their best work, just unbelievable.

The German Wacken Open Air is one of the largest and oldest metal festivals in the world, with 85,000 visitors. Another 15,000 visit the village of Wacken. The flaming bull's skull is the festival's logo. The festival grounds were and are in parts a pasture. Floor is pronounced like the English floor. It is the Dutch version of the name of the Roman goddess of spring, Flora. The band leaves the stage because only the backtracks are playing. These are original recordings by the London Symphony Orchestra. The audience starts clapping when the drummer reappears on stage.

Best reaction to GLS that I've seen in a very long time! Nice to see you trying desperately to keep your "analyzing face" in shape, while you're clearly and progressively surrendering to Floor's spell. You mentioned the hard work that goes into this kind of singing. Indeed, for the majority of great singers, the unseen hours of training are essential. And for sure, Floor is a total vocal nerd and "hard work" doesn't begin to describe her dedication tt craft. That is NOT the key to her greatness though. Floor is a once in a generation (or many generations) 100% pure natural talent. Much of that is simply in her genes/physique which equips her with some great vocal weapons in her arsenal. Same raw natural talent can be seen/heard in her sister, Irene Jansen (no vocal training, stellar voice). Floor has a vocal tract others can only dream of. Her use of resonance (formants) is what provides the sound produced by her vocal folds with a richness and timbre to just die for. She was well under 20yrs old when her level of singing was already way beyond the level reached by most with a lifetime of very hard work. In short: no amount of vocal training could ever "make" a Floor Jansen, only her parents could do that (twice!) 😉

Soft-mixing of symphonic music with rock is even older (for instance, Rainbow's version of Beethoven's 9th kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXWodHt5Z7lmgqc in 1981). Strictly speaking of metal, the first well-know blend of a symphonic orchestra might be Metallica's concert of 1991 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6HSeXWKmt55rsk). But that was a late arrangement. The first designed usage of female classical singing as ingredient of metal songs might be Therion in the mid 90's (learn more here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therion_(band)). In the 90's most of it was gothic metal: Female-fronted bands Like Nightwish, Tristania, After Forever (Floor's first band) led the pack. Then others like Dimmu Borgir, Evanescence, Epica, Within Temptation, etc followed suit. The genre has solidified, expanded and evolved from the gothic seed into more a canonically symphonic sound. After knowing Floor you might want to try... ...early examples of pure symphonic metal: - Epica's "Cry for the Moon" (live in studio 2003): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKOkd4Wkls16qrs&pp=ygUWZXBpY2EgY3J5IGZvciB0aGUgbW9vbg%3D%3D, - After Forever's "Monolith of Doubt" (live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYXQfHuhht1na7c&pp=ygUlYWZ0ZXIgZm9yZXZlciBtb25vbGl0aCBvZiBkb3VidCBsaXZlIA%3D%3D - Therion's "To Mega Therion" (live at a metal festival in 2001): kzbin.info/www/bejne/gl61eKuenJujqbeds ...examples of the foundational gothic metal sound/vibe: - Cradle of Fith's "Nymphetamine Fix" (official video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJW6Z5SEdr96iq8&pp=ygUZY3JhZGxlIGZpbHRoIG55bXBoZXRhbWluZQ%3D%3D - Tristania's "My Lost Lenore" (live in 1991) kzbin.info/www/bejne/moSukqSGZs6Ilas. and there's a huge wide world of metal to discover beyond symphonic metal. But I guess for you that should come after a nice bath in symphonic.

She was a voice coach back when you were born approximately. She is 43 now, a cancer surviver and mother of 2 kids, one husband and lots of animals. So much I could sat, but her favourite vocalist is Freddie Mercury, and I see alot of his type of persona in her. She is quiet and dignified off stage. On stage she pure slays.

The "pipes" are the surround for three keyboards, a backing track controller, some SPFX triggers, a bottle or two of red wine and they used to shoot fireworks! Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards, composer, arranger, co-conductor, lyicist.... - THE Metal Mozart! 82,000 people at this concert in Wacken, Northern Germany - usually only 2000 people live there! Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. Nightwish since 1996. edit: I loved the way you explained what you meant regarding vocal techinique in an understandable manner! Another vocal exercise in a song by Floor in "Romanticide" from this concert - G3 -D6 gliss and BACK! Yes, you were Floor-ed and had a Floorgasm or two! Jukka Nevalainen on drums, Emppu Vuorinen on rythym and lead guitar, Marko Hietala on bass and (BTS for this clip) Troy Donockley - multi-instrumentalist (he can't play hockey - and that's about it!) edit: PPS ! Check out the band Epica - their sister band. "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" and "Sancta Terra" LIVE - with a guest or two! ;)

Hello Nick, I loved this reaction. Yes, Nightwish is a Finnish band, but Floor is a Dutch singer. as a Dutchman, I can say you pronounced Floors name absolutely correct. Floor is a very well trained singer and had her training for 4 years at the Rock Acedemy in Tilburg (NL) and after that she had training in musical theatre and classical singing at the Conservatory, also in Tilburg. Floor is one of the most versatile singers there is. At the age of 16 she started singing metal in After Forever. When After Forever disbanded, she had her own band, Revamp. In 2002 After Forever was the support act for Nightwish, during their European tour and from that time, they knew eachother and also Nightwish knew of what Floor is caopable. 11 Month's prior to this recording, Nightwish called Floor, if she could come over to Seattle (WA) because their singer got ill. She only had 2 days to pack bags, buy a flight from the Netherlands to seattle and study 15 songs. She did... and the rest is history. Headlining the biggest metalfestival in the world, Wacken (near Hamburg, Germany) was the last concert of the Imaginerum worldtour, in which Floor came in halfway. The pipe organ type of thing is just a stagecover around the keyboard. The key player, Tuomas Holopainen is the main composer for Nightwish. Once a reactor called him the "Metal Mozart" and I think that is a good way to describe his compositions. Every song is different and has a different feel, but at the same time, you recognise it has the Nightwish signature. Maybe our general, Gabriel Bardac, already has posted under your reaction of the Phantom (with Tarja). He can tell you the story of Nightwish better than I can do and he also has a very good guide for your next songs to react. My suggestion would be Storytime from the sama concert and YES this is LIVE! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIbZdqaObqlnm7csi=9NYftidjL3Wie7lZ Greetings from the Netherlands.

Floor did a "reaction" to her Wacken performance, where she explains everything, why and how something happened. It's really fun. As a fan of Bach, I'll just assume you'll love a certain Nightwish song, where their composer is giving a tribute to many music styles over centuries.

Hi Nick, it's been a long time since a reaction gave me so much joy, thank you very much for that! If someone knows something about music and also enjoys my favorite band, then that's a special treat. Nightwish and Floor still have a lot of musical treats and surprises to offer and the Nightwish army would be very happy if you would discover some of them with us as a reaction. This was a top tier reaction. Actual competence and sincerity is a complete win. Floor is a deep deep rabbithole of singing expertise. You will be just as shocked again. Its fair to say that you dont know the half of it yet. In the coming songs she will scare your socks off and then surgically break your heart. I am thoroughly looking forward to go on this ride with you. You will genuinely be better for it. You will learn from this. As we do.

Fantastic reaction! Please go down the Nightwish and Floor's solo work rabbit hole....we will join you!! They've just released an album, which the last in a trilogy (Endless forms most beautiful, Human Nature and the new one called Yesterwynde) so it has a different sound to their classic songs (I love it all) so I would suggest watching more from the Wacken concert first. Although the last song they just released is probably their best ballad and I of their best songs...so emotional. Anyway, you will find all of this out. All of us fans were sitting smiling when you were complimenting Floor,'s ability because we knew what was coming lol 😊. Her solo album is great as well as her covers of Shallow, Alone and Adagio (if the latter doesn't give you chills, you are not alive lol). You'll hear about her Beste Zangers performances (all great - where she did Shallow) and where she first did Phantom of the Opera with Henk Port ....oh you have so much to get into 😊 Oh, and she can sing in several languages.

During the guitar solo and the orchestral break Floor was busy fixing a minor costume malfunction. Seeing musical professionals go full fanboy over Floor's vocals never gets old. Our graceful Valkyrie really is converting people to metal one musician / coach at a time. Seriously though, Nightwish is so extraordinary in the music they do imho, I honestly think a lot of their songs should be used as training material in schools (especially around composition, emotions, and delivery)

This 2013 Wacken concert is filled with fantastic performances. Floor was relatively new to the band, and this was the largest, and most important concert of her Nightwish journey. In fact, Floor was not made an official member of Nightwish until after this concert. Plus, the concert was being recorded in for Blu-ray Disc distribution (yes, I have mine). Of course there are later concerts with newer material, but for someone newer to Nightwish I recommend that you continue with performances from this one. 2013 Wacken comprises a “Best Of” compilation of Nightwish songs to that date. Their 2015 concert tour includes fantastic performances from Wembley arena, Buenos Aires, and Tampere (in Finland). Save those for after a healthy exposure to 2013 Wacken.
