Meditation and concentration of my breathing. Then I'll walk and just let my mind zone and do what it do, but I'm mindful of the thoughts so I can analyze them later.

Thank you Venerable Nick. My release is through meditation, Buddhist practice, and exercise. Can I ask your view on medication use for mental health problems. As it is designed to alter the chemicals in the brain, by taking it is one breaking the Buddhist vow of not using intoxicating substances? Kindest regards. 🙏

I have zero stress with my hair or clothes. I don’t spend a lot of time or money on them or worry about if it’s “in” or not. My stress comes from things/situations that don’t align with my values: organization, financial stability, honesty, peace, and independence. All of my personal goals and activities revolve around those values. For stress relief, I go for a hike/walk or a bike ride, gardening, intuitive painting, or just singing at the top of my lungs - things that don’t involve mental energy.

Thank you, Venerable Nick, for this video! It's always a great day when there's a new video from you. :) Lately I have been watching your videos with my breakfast because it helps me to slow down and stay grounded, and go through my day more mindfully. What has worked for me in terms of reducing stress: definitely minimizing my wardrobe, and dancing. I open my closet, and all my clothes are hanging, and there aren't too many, so it's easier to maintain and decide what to wear. My goal is to use what I have and not buy more. I have always wanted to get down to just two outfits (wear one, wash the other) like you! Maybe one day I'll get there! I also notice that dancing, like you said, takes me out of my mind and back into the present moment, because I can't think while I'm focussing on the steps! I practice Irish Dance! Dance makes me feel pure joy! Thank you also for your past videos on speech. I keep returning to them and even made notes and printed out a piece of paper with bullet points, and used it before going out, to remember what to ask myself before speaking. I don't always catch myself😅, but my relationships are improving because of the attention I'm giving to speaking correctly and listening. Thank you!❤

I had to learn all of this due to illness. I had to hire help (friends disappeared and my father helped while he could), preparing 3-4 days of outfits laid out in advance, hair usually up in a simple bun (also lost a lot so I am learning natural hair care which actually has reduced the time and energy needed), eating simple one pot meals to simplify and reduce time and energy cooking, and seeing that long meditations will be key to my health the rest of my life...as well as more gentle exercise instead of weight lifting everyday. Feeling strong is great, but looking very strong isn’t important to me anymore! I’d much rather live with inner peace after various sources of long term stress caused illness. The small changes now are helping me recover and I always prefer less external stimulation with more time to simply be. If we could all implement more stillness with fewer responsibilities (even small ones like some you mentioned), stress wouldn’t be as much of a concern. Thank you. ❤

Work has been extremely stressful for a long time and my boss has not been taking a leadership role for us for over 1.5 yrs. After going to her multiple times for help, I decided to push through my anxiety and go to her boss for help. It was scary knowing that it put me in a vulnerable position, but I knew it was the right thing to do. Your video reminded me that you can't let things build up. Sometimes doing something perceived as risky is the right thing to do for your own sanity.

Great video as always! I think that one important skill when it comes to minimizing your life is also to prioritize. I’m interested in so many things and I’d like to be able to do them all well. However, that’s not the way it works. Because it can happen that you feel kind of paralyzed if you want to learn too many skills and then you don’t even start to get anything done. So I think it’s best to just aim for one or two skills at a time if possible. I’m rather talking about hobbies here because of course there are things that you simply must learn to survive.
@nickkeomahavong0111 ай бұрын
Oh yes that makes sense. Taking the time to know what is important and a real priority is key.

So relevant, than you Nick. I've been in mental turmoil the last 3 months evaluating leaving my corporate job to do policing - something I've always wanted to do. But the cons of the policing are stark in contrast to my cushy desk job, and consequently the incessant inner battle of should I/ shouldn't I, am i crazy for wanting this, etc., has been the most mentally exhausting thing I've ever gone through. I don't look forward to sleep anymore because it's disturbed and I frequently get up at 330am. I can tell my mind is the antithesis to mindfulness and I need to change asap.

Thank you for this Nick, I had a very hard day today, I was overthinking something I saw, thinking my dad had done something not so nice and I was very stressed. Now I realise that it was a big misunderstanding, I can reflect on the nature of my mind, and how I jump to conclusions fast, and if I simplify things, stop worrying about trivial things, then I'll worry less about these things. And I know this stress will pass. It's impermanent. Plus, our time in this life is limited. Why waste that precious time stressing, when you can be calm and peaceful?
