I turned to the Buddha around 6 years ago to free myself of suffering. It made a difference then and still does today in how I get through tough times. I spend even more time alone now in my 50’s and I am more at peace with it because the most important relationship is with myself 🙏🏼

@@NickKeomahavongOfficial If you are still interested in larning about Buddhism, there are 3 schools, Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana [Tibet]. Look on the web under Dharma Material, there is a firm in Taiwan that will send you free books. All you have to do is fill out a book form and it will take you up to half a year to get your books.

I am catholic and even though monks are so calming in this video, I must say i really like my religion a million times better. Jesus is so amazing, teaching us to go out and spread the word about living a good life, and to live our best life in being there for each other. These monks seem like good folks, but what the heck are they doing for each other and the world? That's what's missing in this lifestyle and doing stuff for others is a huge part of who I am.

Joining the Army forces you to leave your family, passions, hopes, and dreams behind as well. I have met people from all over the world in the Army. And as you can see in this video these monks come from all over the world too. For both, the Army and Buddhist monks I think anyone can do it. They both just require training. In my opinion, being a monk is easier since it's all about peace instead of violence. And naturally, most of us long for tranquility. You're becoming one with yourself and I feel like if each of us didn't have so many distractions and needs this is actually quite natural to become like this. We all yearn for some type of fulfillment and most of us would consider ourselves spiritual in a way. In reality, we are forced to have to provide for ourselves and our families and work until the end of our days kind of like the laypeople in the video. These monks are blessed they have the villagers taking care of them and providing all of their material needs. This makes focussing only on your spirituality quite easy when they wipe out almost all distractions and physical needs of life. I do have a problem with how fresh, clean, and well-tooken care these monks look while the villagers giving them all they have looked quite poor. Also in comparison with how developed the monk's infrastructure is to how the shacks the villagers live in, it seems wrong. Being a monk is not impossible and again anyone can do it if they have the will and when in the perfect circumstances like these guys. These men are no different than you or me or those villagers because we are all human. It does not seem right to me that hardworking laypeople lay at their feet and worship them almost as if they are the gatekeeper to their own faiths/karma. This type of training is rewarding for the self though and I'm sure opens a great door to the growth of your own spirituality. Focussing only on mediation and spirituality offers a great reward to the individual in which they reach enlightenment and feel a great sense of freedom. However, this does not make them better than anyone else or more hierarchal than the poorest man. We are all still meek humans who need something greater than ourselves to reach Nirvana. And that "something" cannot be found in even the most disciplined human monk. It is found in the true God.

@@desireechoate7583 I recommend that you read the autobiography of lee dhammadaro a Buddhist monk of the Thai tradition, that way you can see how the monk lifestyle is not as easy as you perceive it, it is extremely hard to be a monk in an Any place you are, and you shouldn't compare them to soldiers, monk are trained to attain peace, love compassion stillness of the mind- body and liberation of suffering, soldiers are made to destroy, the only create bad for themselves and others. Also people is not required to feed or donate to monks, thay do it voluntarily because they appreciate the monks and their wisdom.

While I will acknowledge that it's a struggle. Going against the tide always is, however, if one is to engage in the struggle, the first step is motivation. Your motivation has to be at least equal to the dream and the passion. If it's not, you are wasting your time. Secondly, you must take an honest assessment of the passion and the dream. Do you honestly think that they will eliminate all craving and suffering or just cover them up? What I have found about us is that we are never satisfied. No matter how good we may have it, we are never satisfied, at least not for long. Just something to think about.

That is truly a powerful statement that you make: "When the mind is outside of the body, it becomes vulnerable." So very true! I have the Dhammapada and have read it several times, even memorized and recite verses to myself for mental focus. My point is your statement that I quoted reminded me of one particular verse: "What we see, hear, and taste, become the master." The longer that I live, the more that I realize how important this is to our well-being.

After three days of meditation I've noticed a dramatic change of happiness, I was stressed because my daughter , always being home , never leaving, thinking of what I can do, you know the usual thoughts. When 3 days hit , for a week I was stress free I didn't feel like I was obligated, forced to abide by my children's rules. I felt more understanding, patient, you name it. I listened to meditation music before sleep and during the day closing my mind and trekking myself positive things, saying "I am safe" "I am secure", "I am beautiful", "all negativity is out of this room"

My implementation of keeping my mind within myself revealed something to me already in the short time that I have been practicing it: How easily and quickly the mind can be attracted here, there, and everywhere, and one must be ever watchful so that it doesn't get pulled along with something or to reel it back in when it has. But it is truly a sweet state when it is still and quiet.

Beautiful mini documentaries, I loves it..thank you Nick for doing this video and share it to us. People think that becoming a monk is the easiest path,but is not easy at all. Taking a five precepts as a lay person is been a difficulty for many, a monk need to follow 227 precepts, wow. 😁😯. I think ordained as a monk you are learning a lot of things, is a life changing experience.

Thank you so much Joyce! You're right when you put it like that. As a lay person, keeping 5 precepts can be difficult.... now add the other 222 precepts. It can definitely be challenging at time... but all worth it in my opinion 😁😁😁
@joycejcg90
@joycejcg90 5 жыл бұрын
@@NickKeomahavongOfficial Yup you are right, it is worth it. But I dont take a vow and follow the five precepts yet. As a lay person, we live in a challenging world, abstrain from false speech is difficult, false speech include a wide array of topics, that included double punch speech, lying, gossiping etc..all these I learn from dharma talks. Really I try my best to think consciously/throughly before I spill out my words. And I drink occasionally, if I taking the vows, I already violated the precepts. There's so much to learn in Buddhism.🙂😁

@NickKeomahavongOfficial
@NickKeomahavongOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
Oh wonderful. Congratulations on that teaching position. That's a lot of merits to teach the monks. My advice is to go with no explanation and have an open attitude. Sometimes we bring our own culture and perspectives, then we compare. Try not to do that because you are now going into the spiritual world. What they do will boy make sense logically because it's not supposed to. So just stay open. Develop your meditation practice and observe everything around you. Through the act of skillful observation, you can learn alot. Its like watching a master class on life 😁 I hope this helps. Feel free to ask anything 😁😁

Leaving home and obey the rules is the way to find true ourselves. My grandparents are Buddhists, for some policy reasons they don't leave home, but we behave kindness and believe goodness. I'm from Mainland China, though Buddism here are a little different from Tailand, we share the same belief that cause-and-effect really works and achieve oneself is most of us final goals, For Chinese Buddhism Monks, they may also find the way to help the others and the world. So just respect each other. However, modern days, it's too hard to find a real sense of temple and monk in China, cuz most of the temples are transformed into tourist attractions and monks behave just like sellers. This is another reason why I totally respect you. Persist in the belief is a difficult thing but sometimes to give up is even harder. So just keep what we are doing, and maybe one day I come toTailand, we can witness the greatness we have already done. By the way, meditation is a so wonderful method. Best wishes.

Really great inspiration. The islamic religion commands to have a balance in life, which is to work but you have to spend some time alone to pray and meditate every day. Not working all day, and not praying all day. Unfortunately, a lot of muslims are not aware of the importance of balance. A human has to spend some time alone to develop his spirit.
