Chris Torres makes a full-time living reselling gently-used furniture and mattresses. He sources inventory through Sharetown, a service that helps direct-to-consumer brands handle customer return requests.
And the best part? He doesn't have to pay for that inventory until it sells.

I did this for Sharetown. It was hard work, but a very low cost of entry, and good money!

I'm a single woman, I don't have a helper. I'd really like to get this started. I've moved dressers and bed frames myself before. Do you think I would be able to do the pickups alone?
@5Towaways
@5Towaways Жыл бұрын
@@justice4all977 it's "strongly recommended" in the training to have a helper. Also, the use of a dolly, tape and plastic is in the training. But to answer your question you would definitely need help. Maybe you could recruit a family member to help with pickups?

lifting a 200 pound mattress is no joke and sometimes you have to get it down from a 3 floor apartment then pray it sells so you can get paid for all that hard labor and pray not to get injured lifting all that weight.

they take more than 50% of the price they tell you to sell it. You have to pick up a mattress that may be full of stains and you have to remove all stains. You have to clean and desinfect everything. You have to have a big storage unit because you will have lots of inventory. You will be doing up to 50 miles for a pickup. You have to post everything on facebook market, deal with customers. you will not sell some of your items. yes, you can make money but its not that great after all the work you do and after deducting expenses and time invested to make maybe under $200 a sale sometimes under $100 after all expenses... in some cases you may be loosing money because you picked up something you wont sell and you may have to disposal that item costing you more time and money to take it out of your storage. And remember you have to share earning with your helper... no one works for free!

@@EthanMicheleLanA inventory is not free if I have expenses to pickup some are close to 100 miles drive and cost is not even close to 3%. You have to spend a few hours of your time driving for the pickups, cleaning and disinfecting. You need a big storage that's at least $200, plastic rolls are $30 each you can only do 2 king so you need 3-5 rolls a week, disinfectant is about $80 and will last for only 10 uses. Gas, miles, and all the time you spend posting and talking to customers. Is that free inventory? I don't think so! 3% cost? No you are far away. Forgot they also have specific requirements for your car insurance that will make your insurance go up.

Who determines the price the item is resold for? And what is the commission % for the rep?
@NickLoper
@NickLoper 8 күн бұрын
My understanding is it’s not really on commission. Instead, Sharetown will give the reps a suggested resale value, and how much the company will collect for the item. For example, maybe it’s a $1500 mattress; suggested resale might be $700 and Sharetown’s take might be $500. If the item sells for $700, the rep would make that $200 spread as their gross profit on the item.

What do you get paid to pick the furniture up? Or do you only get paid when the furniture sells?
@NickLoper
@NickLoper Жыл бұрын
In most cases, my understanding is you don’t get paid for the pickups, only after the item sells. In certain cases where the item can’t be resold, I believe you’ll be compensated for the pickup.

you will need to sell 5-8 mattreses, pickup at least 10-15 mattress a week. It will take you about 1hr each pickup, another 30min to 1hr to prep and post each mattress. Drive can be up to 100 miles. Preping is cleaning, removing stains, desincfecting, taking pictures, re wrapping.
