@@LearnHow2 Great informative video! The previous home owners at my location had planted foxglove in the front yard in front of the window. I saw a humming bird come around a week ago which caught my interest. The plantation area though had become overwhelmed with weeds and some decay and they began to shrivel up. I think a few years without care. Recently though I had a friend come over who'd worked in a nursery and we are cleaning it up and planning to plant fresh soil and foxgloves in the new spring! Can't wait.

This was supper fast and easy after placing the seeds in the fridge for a week. Germination was as little as 10 days and they came fast. I'm to about 1.5 month and they're looking as great as yours.

This is invaluable, visually clarifies every step along the way and success rates; no beating around the bush or additional complication, best educational guide I've seen thus far. Its lifespan is a bit of a drawn-out process but a beautiful plant that needs a bit of help re-introducing into the countryside. Much appreciated!! P.s. have you experimented with germination rates through prior dry or moist stratification; "lazy" scattering seeds around directly onto the outside soil; different seed packet brands; same year flowering varieties; and not covering the seeds with a layer of compost as they need light for germination? Just curious to learn about the variations if there's any.

I sowed some Foxglove 'Alba' Sunday, 6/8 after following your video. Already germinated and still under cover of plastic bag. Just waiting for leaves now and will continue as per your video. Once planted into second seed tray as young plants, can they be kept in a plastic greenhouse over winter, or is that too cold. You are my 'go to' channel now. Learning so much, happy to say. 💐

Question: how long did it take from the seedlings to get the bigger leaves? Just wondering when I move them to the new tray for spacing. I’ve been growing mine for about two months now and they’re just now starting their second set. I’ve been coming back and forth to this video periodically to check how I’m doing. 🤭 Oh - and that rain hitting the cover in the background was very soothing. 😌

Hi Leah. If your climate is warm enough then plant as soon as you can after January otherwise for cooler climates (as here in the UK) plant early March. If you plant early then you may get flowers in the same year (September). Otherwise for late planted seeds you will have to leave the plants in the ground over winter and they will flower early in the following year.

Thank you so much for this awesome explanation. I just watched a video before that one and they said don't cover the seeds, because foxglove needs light to germinate. Zara Zara cut your stems with the dead flowers intact and let it dry. The stem will become brown. The stems contain ‘pods’ of many foxglove seeds as the plant is a ‘self seeder.’

They are ok over winter in the ground but for pots I think freezing temperatures could kill the roots so I would keep them in a light, sheltered spot and surround the pots with something to protect from frosts (straw, mulch, bark for example). Keep safe.

Hi.. Can I just plant them straight outdoors into my garden and a patch where I want them to grow... Best regards and stay safe

Hi Bob. Yes you can. Sprinkle a few seeds where you want them and then thin them out once they start growing. Keep safe.

@@LearnHow2 are they easy to transplant when I thin them out... Or do you just dispose off the ones you've thinned out...

I sowed foxglove indoors in mid feb/22. Do I have to wait until Sept to plant out? Can I not plant out in mid May June, July etc. I'm in east coast of Ireland.

Plant them out when you are ready. No need to wait.

wouldn't it be better to plant them in a modular tray in individual cells?

There are many ways to grow. This is just one of them. Thanks for your comment.

Damnit.. i didnt realize they were 2 year plants. I live in Texas 9a. its hot all year. IM starting seed now in peat pellet, they should be able to put i the ground in march when all frost threat is gone. is it possible they will flower first year? with a long season? for instance, today yesterday it was mid 70' 60's night. we have High 60's-70s this week 2 days of high 30's then high 40's. we get like 8-9 months of warmth.

They may flower in the first year if they are planted early enough but it is not guaranteed.

Great tutorial, thank you. I have a question, if you could help please: I've just bought the seeds and it's late january, so it's winter here. I can't wait till mid summer to plant them, lol. What happens if I plant them in a tray now and move them to the garden in april? Will they did? Must I really wait till mid summer?

Thanks for your appreciation. The plants will grow ok but they will not flower until next spring.

Everything I've read says you sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the soil. What is going on with that? Even says so on the seed packets.

The websites say they need light to germinate so wouldn't covering them with soil stop germination?

Found this video after I've just sown seeds and they've germinated. But I've sown far too many seeds per module. Will they still grow big enough to be transplanted? I didn't realise how tiny the seeds were!

Hi Andy. You should be ok. Transplant the strongest seedlings. Keep safe.
