As an aircraft mechanic, makes me question the competence of technicians working on it. When you have multiple problems like that... it's either a fluke dud from the factory... or it had 1 problem, maybe that 1 issue created another 1 or 2... but once you fix those it should be fine. Especially with the way they just shotgunned line item parts at it. If it's still breaking, suggests they didn't do good work and broke something else in the process. Forgot to do some alignments or settings, didn't setup the computers to talk to eachother... whatever it is... when you say it felt like it got worse... sounds a lot like bad maintenance. Every time they fixed something, they broke something else. And it's a vicious cycle. I see it all the time with people trying to hurry or just lazy and haven't developed that mindset. See it more with car mechanics b/c there's no FAA or EASA breathing down their neck and ... let's face it... your car isn't going to cause 80 people to fall out of the sky and die. But definitely sounds like poor level of shop maintenance to me. Moreso when you say it's the 2nd car like this from same dealer.

I never let some kids hack into the wiring of my expensive new car to install silly things like radar detector or after market stereos or alarm systems - these new cars have complex electrical systems that when you let some kid cut and install wires all over the car and cut the wire loom you are asking for a serious problem. It seems surprising that Porsche bought the car back after these rear and alarms were installed. The one common issue with these two cars is you had the same shop install these after market electronics. It would be interesting to know how many 9-1’s has Porsche bought back under the lemon law?
@NickMurray4 жыл бұрын
But you don’t know what you’re talking about. The wiring was never touched The power was pulled from the OBD port, in the approved Porsche standard. Porsche subsequently found the actual problems with these cars and they had nothing to do with the install camera or radar system. 🤷🏻♂️
@atlasrex4 жыл бұрын
@@NickMurray okay - just seemed curious that two 911’s had what sounded like similar problems. We’re these problems with the electrical systems rampant across a large number of cars? I was wondering why there are not a lot of disgruntled 911 owner videos on KZbin discussing similar unrepairable electrical issues with their cars? You noted that Porsche finally discovered the problem - did one of your videos discuss what they found? These problems you had not with one but two 911’s makes it kind of scary to order a new 911 for $150,000 to only buy yourself a bundle of expensive frustrating issues with the car. This is why God made Lexus - for those who want cars that never need warranty repairs.

If Nick's "car" were a Toyota, people would be howling about the shabby quality. Since it's a Porsche less people are howling - maybe more laughing. As an owner of a Toyota 4Runner and a Porsche (the much lesser Boxster), I can say the first goal of any "car" is transportation. Porsche has failed its most basic mission here. My Boxster has had the transmission replaced, the top retract replaced, and now the driver door window is inoperable. I have put a whopping 6K on the odometer. It is my first and last Porsche. I appreciate Nick's time and humor in producing these videos. The C8 should be his next toy.

Your story scares me, I took delivery on a 2019 C4S last November and watching your build video and experience update videos helped me immensely with my option choices and I added a lot of them because this is my Bucket List Retirement Car and I am hoping that it lasts until they take my car keys away or I "Kick the Proverbial Bucket". One thought that I continually had when I learned of your problems is about the "Messing around with the Wiring Loom", as you call it. Unfortunately, a few years back we had to have an Ignition Interlock System installed on my Wife's VW Passat, and this requires "Messing around with the Wiring Loom" in much the same fashion as they did when they installed the Escort MAX Ci 360 radar and laser detection system in your C4S. Our experience after our installation was much like yours with the C4S, crazy electrical things started happening and both the installer and VW said, much as the Scarecrow in the Wizard of OZ as he crossed his hands across his chest and pointed in opposite directions saying, "They went thatta way". In the end, we had the device removed, traded the car for a VW Tiguan, and went to a different ignition interlock installer. No problems with that install. I hope you get another Porsche, you location seems ideal for a Taycan and you could be among the first Video Reviewers if your dealership put you on top of their waiting list as a Gesture of Good Faith. I'm in Idaho now but still own 1/3 of my Dad's house in Waterford, CT, with my 2 brothers, and love trying to figure out what roads your are driving on as I have a Best Man/Best Friend who lives in Stamford and I visit both locations often. Good Luck! Love your Video Reviews. Regards, Mark K.

Sometimes you get a lemon. Work with Porsche beyond the dealer to get a new vehicle, they are a reasonable company. I'm on my 5th 911 Porsche (first one was in 1975) and they have proven to be tough, reliable vehicles that can take a lot of hard driving. I have over 500,000 miles in Porsches, still driving them.

I wish I was as reasonable and relaxed about my ex as you are about your car. Also 991.2 looks way prettier than 992 in my book, real sweet spot. As for next car: wonder what ever happened to that sweet little red Toyota MR2 AW11 hmm 🤔

After owning two Porsche Cayman 987.1 and 987.2, I bought a 991.1 911. I owned it exactly 4 months and got rid of it. The car lived in the shop so I bought a second Mercedes-Benz E63 and have been thrilled over the past two years. Both Mercedes-Benz E63s have been super reliable and the Dealership experience has been top notch. The Porsche and Mercedes-Benz dealerships are side-by-side in the same parking lot and branded with the same brand - Park Place. The experience at Porsche was very poor yet the experience at Mercedes-Benz has always been fabulous. It is apparent that Porsche is hiding their faults and blaming the customer for their lack of quality - at least that has been my experience with my 911.

@@john_p The only thing wrong with the NSX is that they called it an NSX. Yeah, it has none of the things that made the original special, but if you can get past that you'll see you get a lot of performance and technology for about the same price as Nick's broken Porsche

The Mercedes is a good suggestion. I was a strong BMW (5) and Porsche (2) man, until I got my first Mercedes a couple years ago. Would buy another in a heartbeat if this one ever leaves. But if you're looking for reliability, I'd go Japanese. The Germans don't cut it.
