Blow by Blow, is one of the best fusion albums out there by Jeff Beck

Jeff lived to 77, I believe. He lived a long and productive life. I'm 73 and started listening to Jeff Beck's music with the Yardbirds when I was just 12 or 13. Yardbirds; B,B and A; with Rod Stewart and many other great vocalists. I will live a few years and may get to hear Jeff and others in heaven.

I was gonna say that you should be watching Jeff and Vinnie and Tal playing Live at Ronnie Scott's...but then I remembered that he had Vinnie and Tal with him at the R&R Hall of Fame...so it is all good. LOL But for real...when you get a chance, make sure to watch the full version of Jeff playing with Vinnie and Tal at Ronnie Scott's...it is incredible stuff...the full version of the Bolero is just ridiculous.💯

He used to say his voice was terrible when he sang, but sprinkle some magic finger spice on his guitar and he could make people's hearts shake so wonderfully. He was also an amazing singer. Miss you so much, Jeff.

The original Beck’s Bolero is on Truth. The musicians were never credited to this day on the album cd whatever but it’s not the band that plays on the rest of the record. Jeff Beck Jimmy Page John Paul Jones Keith Moon Nicky Hopkins It was a onetime session and after it was in the can someone said we should call ourselves The New Yardbirds and Keith Moon said That’ll go over like a lead balloon and then much later Jimmy remembered that and switched it to Led Zeppelin.

💔 Jeff. I feel fortunate to have had his music in my life since the Yardbirds. His recordings never disappoint. My favorite was the ‘Orange’ album - Jeff Beck Group. Definitely Maybe. I’ve seen him twice: early ‘70s and 2013. I still get chills whenever I hear ‘Hammerhead’. 💔☮️❤️

What a great line up this is. EC rules OK. 😀. Jeff went to the same secondary school as me and born about 2 miles away from me, so maybe my favourite. He was there about 6 years before me, but we knew by the time we left (in '73) the guy had been there. We became rebels like him for a while at school. I know our Music Teacher was really open to all sorts of music for us to bring to school to listen to and analyse. I wonder if he taught Jeff, as he was probably not much older than him, because he was young when he taught us and loved Bob Dylan. He allowed us to bring in our favourite albums to listen and discuss. What a great teacher he was. Surrey has a lot to answer for with EC and JB and me being born in the same county. I can't play, or sing, but I can certainly appreciate. I feel so proud to have attended the same school as Jeff. He could really make a guitar sing. I know how your brain feels after that...Keith Richards. I really think that you should check out a British band called Stray. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.

A couple of points - Jimmy Page sums it up quite succinctly: "There's Jeff, and then there's us mere mortals." Then there are the stories from Clapton's Crossroads tours. Eric always closed the show and Jeff always played right before him. The rest of the lineups varied by tour, but were always filled with great guitarists with huge egos. Yet when Jeff went on, they were all crammed onto the sides of the stage to watch Jeff's set with their jaws on the floor. And Eric would always complain "How am I supposed to go on after that"?! 'Nuff said!

How extraordinary that the Yardbirds developed THREE of the greatest guitarists: BECK, CLAPTON and PAGE! Apparently IMMIGRANT SONG came about as Tal and Jeff walked towards the venue and Tal suggested it as a fun thing to do for Jimmy and they improvised it on the spot.

My top guys are Link Wray, Roy Buchanan, and Danny Gatton. But Jeff, Jeff IS the greatest of them all. His musicality alone, his tones. He’s one of my favorite singers. Never a bad note, and he’s as bad ass as they come and as sweet as they come as well. Only Michelangelo could paint and sculpt as he did. He is incomparable. It’s not subjective. Jeff is a talent of that order. There’s Jeff and everyone else. Y'all can debate the list sans Jeff till the cows come home because it is subjective regarding mere mortals. I failed to mention Jimi the meteor. I imagine if he had continued, he might have taken a parallel path alongside Jeff.

Nice collection! If you haven't seen the hour and 42 minutes Live from Ronnie Scott's show, it is worth watching about fifty times. It features Jeff, a not-quite 21 year old Tal, Vinnie, Jason, and some cameos by Clapton and a couple of female vocalists. It was recorded in 2007 and scored Beck a Grammy for an instrumental rendition of A Day in the Life (Beatles).

Clapton wasn't listing the "best guitarists in the world"- that was just his reaction after playing that gig, (over 40 yrs. ago), which included a nice Beck rendition of " 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers". Early on, Beck used to get competitive with Clapton on stage, because he got a lot of negative comments from Yardbirds fans when he replaced Clapton, who went a bluesier route with John Mayall. Then, after the album with John Mayall came out, there was the "Clapton is God" graffiti in London. Supposedly this embarassed Clapton, and if he saw one, he would add an "o", so it read "Clapton is Good". The guitar Beck was playing was the TeleGib built by Semour Duncan, who put some old Flying V humbuckers on a telecaster body. The Secret Policeman's Ball concerts were a series of benefits for Amnesty International with both comedy and music acts. They asked Clapton, and he said "Can I bring a friend?". Clapton asked to be announced by John Cleese, and Cleese, who was backstage and thought he was finished for the night, was annoyed at having to come back out and announced "Jeff Beck and Eric ClaKton".

@@NicknLex Nick, I appreciate your response. I love what your doing and even at my old age have learned much from your posts. I hope you didn't take offense I was just razzing you. As an old goat I was fortunate enough to Jimmy 4 times with Zeppelin and was awed every time. As you said, there are any number of great guitarists and to compare them to each other does a disservice to them all. On a side note I'm glad you finally got to hear something other than Casey Jones from the "Dead." I posted a couple of links to your Booker T. post. Not sure whether they're allowed.

One day it is Jeff Beck that is #1 then it is Hendrix, then SRV, then Clapton, then Glen Campbell? I can't make up my mind. BTW are you aware of the Bass player Tal Wilkenfeld and her relation to Jeff. No, I don't mean Daughter. She isn't . Jeff treated her like one and was her mentor. You can see at the end of - "Big Block 2007 crossroads - him waving her on to "Bring it".

Yes I know about Tal👍 Thanks for the info thou. She is an amazing musician. She pretty much dominates the bass!! I can't say that any of these players make my top 10 list. Jeff is one of the biggest innovators of guitar playing and sound in the rock field. He's a guitarists guitar player. His staying power is undeniable. Listen to his "The Final Peace". It will be played at my funeral one day. Also, regarding the clip w/Eric Clapton, there were 2 concert films put out called "The Secret Policeman's Ball" and "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball", which were put out to support Amnesty International. They include among other musicians, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Sting, Phil Collins, and Pete Townsend. They also have many comedic skits with the Monty Python ensemble that are hilarious. You should try to check those out. Great reaction. His "There and Back" album is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.
