Yes. Drummer is Alex Van Halen, Eddie’s older brother. Their father was Dutch jazz musician, Jan Van Halen (deceased in 1986) And American bassist is Michael Anthony, also with a musical dad, a trumpeter; Michael played trumpet, too. Great reaction, Millie! 👋🏽

The David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar debate is one of the biggest arguments in music.

I've always just approached them like two completely different bands. I love them both for entirely different reasons. 🤘

David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar to me are two different bands. They knocked it out of the park with Sammy right from the start when he joined the band and Dave left after the 1984 album. They had great chemistry and his vocals fit great with Michael Anthonys' backup vocals who still plays bass for Sammy's band today. Must see Van Halen - Live Without A Net - Live in New Haven - 1986. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6TImXiGrt6LjLM

Millieeeeee!!! Awesome. You’re reacting to the maestro, the wizard, the man who put the electric guitar at a higher level, Edward Van Halen! Remember when you reacted to “Eruption”? Eddie Van Halen influenced so many guitar players!! Pregúntale a Juan; todo guitarrista knows Eddie Van Halen.

Eddie Van Halen (guitar/ keyboards) built his own studio in the early 80's that he dubbed '5150' Studios ('5150' is the police code in America for 'criminally insane individual') and Van Halen recorded the album '1984' there... Despite selling 10 million copies of '1984', the drinking and drug abuse was out of control in the band and singer David Lee Roth was increasingly unhappy w/ the new keyboard-oriented music that Eddie Van Halen was writing... Roth recorded a solo covers EP 'Crazy from the heat'...which he hoped to make into a movie. Frustrated that David Lee Roth was no longer invested in the next Van Halen album... they parted ways w/ the singer in 1985. Looking to audition new singers for Van Halen in '85, Eddie got in contact w/ solo rock singer Sammy Hagar (They both had the same car mechanic and Eddie was a fan of Hagar's previous band Montrose in the 70's) ... Sammy Hagar was coming off a platinum solo record ('V.O.A.')and tour and was considering retiring from music when he got a call from Eddie Van Halen to audition for Van Halen. Hagar felt he couldn't be David Lee Roth onstage but accepted the invitation to Eddie's 5150 Studio. Hagar recalled showing up at 5150 and seeing a lot of empty beer cans and burnt cigarette butts beside the band members... They decided to jam and Eddie showed Hagar some of his new music. Hagar was immediately inspired and wrote melodies and lyrics to the tracks. After hearing the tapes from the sessions, Sammy Hagar decided to join Van Halen and recorded the '5150' album, which went to #1 on the US charts in 1986 and sold 6 million copies. The record was noticeably heavy on keyboards than past Van Halen records but the songs were great. It was also apparent that David Lee Roth did not have the vocal range to perform on the songs written for '5150'.

Michael Anthony (bass) of Van Halen is such an underrated talent... and he can sing high too. Sammy Hagar has called him an extraordinary musician and the two would trade vocal harmonies in Van Halen. In 2024, a solo Sammy Hagar w/ Michael Anthony, guitar legend Joe Satriani and drummer Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham) toured N. America playing mostly Van Halen songs ... Hagar and Anthony played '5150' live for the first time since 1986/'87.

Eddie and Alex are brothers. Alex was saying he played guitar first and Eddie was playing drums. He said he came home from his paper route one day and Eddie was playing his guitar. He told him to put it down and Eddie said no, and started playing a solo Alex had been working all week on and couldn't get. Eddie played it perfect first time. Alex said it was at that point they switched and Alex played drums and Eddie played guitar. Love that story!

There are like 5 or 6 songs that are even better on this album. Dreams, Love Walks in, Summer Nights, Best of Both Worlds, and Why Can't This Be Love. Fun fact, Eddie started playing Drums and Alex started playing guitar, 2 years later they switched.

In California, anyone considered a threat to themselves or others can be held for a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation. The regulation or law, I'm not sure which, is a code 5150.

This is the first Van Halen album with vocalist and guitarist Sammy Hagar. He started his musical career in early seventies in a rock band called Montrose named after lead guitarist Ronnie Montrose. Another great underrated guitarist. He was another inspiration for Eddie Van Halen and other guitarists. Since you are also reacting to album tracks you should listen to Bad Motor Scooter, Space Station #9, Rock Candy, Rock The Nation, I've Got The Fire and and other great Montrose/Hagar songs. Sammy Hagar also has a very successful career as a solo artist and other rock groups. David Lee Roth also had a couple of successful albums mainly with another great guitarist named Steve Vai. You have plenty of material related to David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Van Halen. 😎
