Nicko McBrain Rig Rundown - Exclusieve rondleiding langs de Iron Maiden-tourkit

Er zijn weinig drummers die zo’n herkenbare drumkit hebben als Nicko McBrain. Al sinds de jaren zeventig speelt de Iron Maiden-drummer op nagenoeg dezelfde set-up. In januari keerde McBrain na 23 jaar bij Premier terug bij zijn allereerste liefde: Sonor. De Duitsers verwelkomden hem met open armen en bouwden ter gelegenheid van de Book Of Souls-tour een heel bijzondere drumkit voor hem.

If memory serves... Back in the day someone asked Nicko, why he uses so big drum set. His answer was something like: "I'm so handsome that I have to hide behind drums so I don't steal all the attention from other guys in the band." :D

What a fantastic guy , I remember going to see the Phil Hilborne Band years and years ago at a local venue and it said on the poster he had a special guest drummer , so I was stood at the bar and a guy popped out from behind the curtain and came walking over to the bar and stood right next to me , he nudged me and said "alright mate" and I turned to see Niko Mcbrain standing there , it was unbelievable , he bought us both a pint and we spoke like we were 20yrs as friends , it was the best moment ever in my life , the bloke is a true gentlemen , best evening ever. It was before mobile phones too , but I have the memory......

Dude, I went to this restaurant in Florida (4 times, 2 times he was there), and he is exactly like that. Chat with clients, takes pictures with them, etc... A total class act.

Mr McBrain, thanks for the very personal rundown of your kit. Loved the concert in Nashville, TN sir! It's so refreshing to hear a pro drummer that knows his gear & is passionate about it. I had the privilege of meeting Nicko at his restaurant in Tamarack Florida. he serves the best baby back ribs I have ever eaten. I also got his autograph on a dvd that has the airplane and group on the cover. he's a great guy, very humble and gracious. he had some huge shoes to fill when Clive Burr could no longer play because of the MS. He's missed big time. thank you Nicko for doing a great job behind the kit.

Compliment, really. I've seen Maiden live three times, and while Nicko himself says he played better in the 80's than he does now, he really throttles on the set even these days. Kinda like how Eddie T. Head would.

Does anyone know which drums he used to record the Book Of Souls record? Can't find the info anywhere, but just from the period in which the album was recorded, and by the sound of the drums on it, I'm guessing he was still using Preimer. Can anyone shed some light on that?

Try aligning a 6"x10" Ludwig. Same issue. Something about the size makes it difficult to align. I had to get creative and mount it (with my 8"x10" tom) below my 10 and 12" toms to the right of my Hi-hat. Took some relearning of runs, but the clustering of the drums fit better, and was accessible during play. Shame no one makes a 6" tom any more. Huge kits are awesome. I'm rather jealous that companies will go out of their way and GIVE people kits like this with all the customer stuff and the rest of us can only sit and watch.

A mate of mine met Nicko at an exhibition a good 20 years ago. As a cheeky teenager, he asked him “why are your jeans so tight?” Nicko replied, to make my boy look bigger!” What a legend. 😂😂😂
