The stock 440+6 was/is a really great factory combination for any chrysler division auto. With some minor changes, capable of really decent HP increases with headers, port work in the heads, better octane fuel & advancing the distributor with high octane fuel. My six pack cars were incredible back in the 70s. It never took much money to make 75 HP over stock . Love watching these videos !!!!

440 6 pack on dyno: My best quess for horsepower increase by removal of heat riser manifold and exhaust manifold porting; 1. Heat Riser Manifold removal @ 5600 rpm..conservative 4-8 horsepower gain. 2. Porting Exhaust Manifold ( depending on how much porting removal is required) 5-10 horsepower gain. Best estimation; 9-18 horsepower gain. Headers would also increase your horsepower. I look forward to seeing the test. Thanks to owner of 440 6 pack and of course Nick and the rest of Nicks Garage. Yeah noticed that stumble (misfire) up top you could see it shake a bit. Nick mentioned possible crack re the water from ex manifold, hope the stumble its not water related, as in the crack across exhaust and inlet ports on one pot opening a bit more at peak revs sending a splash of water through the pot causing it to stumble a bit. i say that because IME stumbles like that are more often at the lower end under WOT than up top. A look at the plugs might be in order to see if one has some irregularity due to water. Fingers crossed its not that.
@alexgolovchenko37915 жыл бұрын

@SuperDave Miorgan no I know exactly what he is talking about. On an LA block Mopar there is a butterfly valve on the passenger side in the exhaust manifold that's controlled by a bimetal thermostat. Given enough age and some salt water they would rust into position usually closed. That made the engine run very poorly especially if the cross over port in the intake manifold was partially plugged. The quickest cure for it was to get rid of it by sawing it out. The right fix was likely to remove the intake manifold and clean the runner out, take the exhaust manifold off and get the valve there to work which I suspect required replacement. Oh and likely break a stud that help the manifold on which became its own nightmare. That means likely tying the car up for several days and if you ran into another problem that required parts you didn't have and couldn't farmer engineer then you where hitch hiking a 50 mile round trip. Also that also meant that you either went from eating peanut butter sandwiches to eating peanut butter wish sandwiches or going from burning slabs for firewood to scrounging limbs side of the road.

Love the 6 packs, but wish he would go to electronic ignition distributor and headers, as that was so common in those vehicles that it was rarer to see someone who didn't. Know that I helped bolt them on(headers) of a 440 GTX and a Road Runner too. The GTX went smooth as they fit right in, but the Road Runner was a pain, as they were a cheaper set and didn't fit well without some custom bending and tweaking. Man some good times were had in those vehicles.

I'm not well off, broke my back in 2003 and life has not been the same ever since. It's the shits because my life was quite exciting and fulfilling like yours, building up old cars and trucks, fine tuning and doing it mostly by myself to keep costs down for my customers. I'd spend 100s of hours in my little shop to get the very most out of an engine while keeping in mind that they're daily drivers. Anyways, when the engine owner was asking you about the exhaust manifolds, and if more power could be gained by port work, it made me smile and brought back fond memories of better times and it really piqued my interest because I do know a fair bit about intake and exhaust ports and gasket matching the head's exhaust ports to the exhaust manifold ports and cleaning up the excess casting flash that the factory wouldn't do will give you more horsepower. It wasn't rocket science, I'd just use the one piece Mr Gasket exhaust manifold gasket, scribe both the heads and the exhaust manifolds, clean them all up with a few different die grinders and each time it made a positive difference. Thank you for posting your videos, I watch them a lot and I'll keep watching them, you guys are great!

@robertoruiz70695 жыл бұрын
Hi,I believe the reason they seize in the closed position is,Condensation accumulates on the shaft as the engine cools down athen begins to rust ,at that time the flap is closed... if the spring is working.When the engine is hot it evaporates the moisture allowing the shaft to move. Oil is very important.Although now i wonder what would happen if you made your own shaft out of stainless steel ???it's probably a normal size shaft ,like 1/4 ,5/16 dia. material.Or you could drill the hole in the manifold to match the shaft.? just and old time hot rodder.

The 440 Six Pack is one of my favorite engines. Measured at Holley's two barrel vacuum specs the carbs are rated at, 350 cfm for the center carb and the two outboard carbs are rated at 500 cfm each, which would a total of 1350 cfm, but measured at Holley's four barrel vacuum specs, to compare the carbs to one four barrel carb, the total for the three carbs together is around 950 cfm, which is still a lot for the engine.
