I really enjoy BJJ but it needs to evolve. Incorporating punching to the body bare knuckle only would be a start (not slaps). For sport it's OK as it is but not for self defense, so many guys would get smashed in a fight against an opponent who knows how to punch, elbow or headbutt and the whole thing of going to ground first in a self defense situation is crazy but for sport perfect.

I mean BJJ is just a sport with a strong focus on ground-fighting. There's nothing stopping someone who wants to learn self defense to participate in other fighting styles like boxing,Muay Thai or MMA if they want to learn how to deal with different strikes.

@@s2r781 agree but I've come from boxing and Thai and can see where it lacks for self defense purposes. Most people come to it for self defense and not to compete. Like everything there's room for different styles, rules etc and if you're happy with BJJ as it is then great.
