WHITE PASS RAILROAD FACTS Built in just 2 years... The White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad originally extended all the way from Skagway, Alaska, to Whitehorse, Yukon, a total distance of 110 miles! The railroad now only operates up to Carcross, Yukon, which is about 67.5 miles from Skagway. The route from Carcross to Whitehorse is no longer in operation. The most popular segment used is this excursion which is the 20-mile section from Skagway to White Pass Summit.

Oh wow! We are really enjoying these vlogs. Cannot stop talking about the scenery. The Skagway railroad train ride was awesome. Mile 16 view was a sight to see. I would gasp as well. loved the history of the town and the girl at the window. The town looked so cool. Loved that fried doughnut. Or we called it fried dough. Very popular dish here in Pennsylvania, they would either coat it in sugar or powdered sugar.

The White pass was well worth doing, loved it! Pennsylvania sounds cool now I know that fried sugary dough is available everywhere😎

Another great video…fun fact, my parents met in Skagway in 1943, my dad in the Coast Guard and my mom a new arrival (from DC) at the local bank.
@nickyfurmageАй бұрын
Thanks, what a small town for them to meet long before the railroad was a tourist attraction, I guess. Thanks for the info, nice to see locals watching the videos and giving more of an insight👍

Stunning those views on the train journey...skagway looked a cool little town... hope you had the links africa ready on the 🐾hike 🐾😂😂 love the vlogs👍🇬🇧😁 and ALWAYS take the stairs stairs 🐻

Yeah the stairs especially if your on a chill out cruise when you don't get off are kinda a must to at least put a dent in the contact eating and drinking! No bear gonna face the lynx Africa mate😁🐻

Hi N&C - I'm sure our big screen TV doesn't do the scenery justice - we absolutely LOVE the views. How many miles was the White Pass train ride? Very cool mile 16 marker video! Loved it when the gal was hanging her leg out from the building - reminded me of being in the Haight/Ashbury district in San Francisco. 😆 I Skagway land locked like Juneau? Woadie's - it bit pricey but looked nice. Fried Dough looks amazing. You had some great weather for your walk to Smuggler's Cove. Thanks for another great adventure vlog - cheers mates!!!!😎❤🍻

Your question just forced me to pin a comment on the video with the info in regards to railroad length😁👍 Thanks again you guys! Also I could eat a Klondike Doughboy right now😊

Its like I've been transported back in time to when I went to Alaska and did almost the same things you guys are doing. I love it! Thank you for the great Vlogs they are so enjoyable. I look forward to watching the longest zip line especially since when I went my zip was cancelled due to wind. Until the next one cheers!

That's awesome, shame you didn't do the zipline, but I get it as it's pretty bad weather alot of the time. Thanks for joining us👍

By the way $27 for the fish and chips Claire had has to be some of the most over priced food I have seen, even if freshly caught I wouldn't want to pay half that price. 🙂

I love the buildings in this town & all the history you have been telling us can't imagine what those gold miners went through in weather conditions. The train looked like the right excursion that I would of liked the scenery is something magical. On my bucket list now. Thanks again for sharing the videos with us they have been fantastic!
@nickyfurmage2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it was a cool excursion, the area is really nice, unfortunately the town itself is mostly gift shops etc but a couple of museums too. The history part where I mentioned about Soapy Smith, that guys emporium is there as a small museum too but we didn't go in which I regret, would have been interesting.

Just watching this guys and my wife spotted what looks like an armadillo sitting on the rock at 08:14. Eagle-eyed wife lol 😂 but I don't know if you get them there?

Very,Very impressive! Skag-a-way looks the most interesting so far with the history of the gold rush and the train journey. Looked like some decent beers on that flight as well😎🍺🍺🍺 I need to persuade you to watch the TV series by AMC … Hell on Wheels…I think you’d find it interesting. Cracking scenery in Skagway as well 😍😎😎

Skag-a-way is incorrect mate, cmon get with the program😆 I've not watched that but I remember my parents said they enjoyed it.

In the days of the gold rush this railroad would still have cost a fortune to build, I’m at a loss to understand how it could have made a profit and also the bravery of the investors, the good old days!! Fantastic stuff Nicky and Claire, was it good old diesel locomotives again??
@nickyfurmage2 ай бұрын
Yeah it was quite the project! Thanks for watching. Yeah they are diesel locomotives. Diesel-electric narrow gauge trains I believe👍

No bad views anywhere there. I wondered if you were going to figure out it was Skag-way lol Some of the villages are hard to pronounce and spell. When I worked at the airline up there, I had to learn the airport codes, how to spell the town and how to say it. Chuathbaluk, Egegik, and Igiugig were my favorites!

Claire, I hope you bought that beautiful bear Christmas ornament, it was beautiful with the flowers inside! Can you fill a Christmas tree yet with all the souvenir ornaments you've bought throughout the years? Also, are there many insects in Alaska? I wouldn't think so since it's cold most of the year, but I don't know.
@clairefurmage65812 ай бұрын
Hi Christine, Yes, I bought the bear ornament. I just could not resist, and it was such an original idea. Luckily, I have a big christmas tree and so lots of space for all my ornaments and more 😊

Loved the video as usual, we were there off Ovation in June 2022 and did the White Pass. They sold caps on the train but they had 2020 only so they were half price. We were supposed to be there in 2020 for our 40th so those caps actually worked. In the end when you show scenes from the Rendezvous Lounge you can see the scar from the landslide that happened the week after we were there and closed down that dock. One thing I'd like on your Vlogs is if you could tell us what the date's are when they were recorded.
@nickyfurmage2 ай бұрын
Ah right I wasn't sure when that was but was made aware of it when we were there. I was gonna buy a cap from the Alaska Railroad, I wish I did now!

So between the two of you, who does the picking and who does the shoveling? No matter. Looks like you both struck gold with those views. Maybe it’s my reading, but when you were describing the shot you got out of the tunnel to Claire, the look on her face looked like she was very happy her fella was happy. Or maybe she was just thinking about ornaments. Christmas spirit, Nicky! It’s all year round! Good look around as usual. But time to getway from Skagway.
