In China, most people in government are engineers rather than lawyers, such as Xi Jinping, who graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in organic synthesis in the chemical department. This is why China prefers engineering to problem solving rather than legislation.
@thesavvyartist2 жыл бұрын
Xi Jinping's perspective of solutions for China is not based on systems thinking. It's based on ancient Chinese wisdom, which even modern Chinese may find hard to appreciate. Lawyers, engineers, doctors, etc are all specialists. They help resolve and perform very specific tasks. His thinking is not at this level. His is a big picture. And he cleverly applies these specialists to the tasks he requires. It just so happens that many of these tasks requires mechanical solutions. I can tell you that his first goal is to ensure the well being of his people. And he spends most of his time thinking how to make people's life better. He is not thinking about how to build the largest bridge or longest underwater channel for sure.

What impress me the most in China are the poverty alleviation programs that have helped even people in remote desert villages get their fresh water supply, electricity, road connections, medicare, financial assistance and job skills trainings that really helped to lift poor people out of abject poverty for generations. Also greening of the deserts, e. g Sanhaiba man made forests the size of Singapore! Water diversion projects to bring water to the thirsty north, low crime rate all across China, reduction of environment pollutions with green growth, etc, etc

Again, love your podcast-style videos... Questions: 1/ is it fairly easy to fly drones in cities (like the construction site you mentioned) or do you get a lot of restrictions within your flying software? 2/ Would Jack consider commenting on how he shot/edited some of his videos? As a fellow videographer I'd love to see how he made the Chong Qing one (what gear and what was his workflow). Keep on producing!
@squarepeg10233 жыл бұрын
Hey, to answer your first question: It is a lot harder than it used to be. As drones become more common, so do the flying restrictions. We can't fly our drone in Beijing so whenever we travel I try to get my drone out. I know that the place where I crashed my drone would probably be a no fly zone these days but that was around 3 years ago... a long time in technology time!
@squarepeg10233 жыл бұрын
As for your second question, my workflow for the Chongqing video was a lot of research, a lot of time writing the script, and then we went and shot it. I already knew exactly what I needed so it was fairly straightforward to shoot and edit. As for gear, it reallly depends what I am shooting, but for that video it was a basic travel set up: Sony A7Sii, Sony FE28mmf2 (fave focal length), Zhiyun Crane Plus, DJI Mavic 2 pro. Hope that helps!

The West has so much to learn from China. Sadly, no one is doing that because of bias and complacency.

What would you say the top 3 things the west can learn from China?
@lifeandlove24283 жыл бұрын
@@Andy-P I’ve been to China before and since I’m not Chinese my comment is not biased. I would say modern buildings, conviennent transportations and digital intelligence.
@Andy-P3 жыл бұрын
@@lifeandlove2428 Thank you for responding. The first two are known in the west and they already do. Though not on the same scale as China being a bigger country. Can you elaborate on digital intelegence?
@huyifan833 жыл бұрын
@@Andy-P IMHO here are the 3: 1. Unity, "United we stand, divided we fall". No matter how smart and capable you are, if most people choose to work against each other, then they will cancel out each others' efforts as a whole for sure. And people can easily get depressed linving in this kind of society. Unity should not only apply within a single country, but also the entire world as a whole as well. People should learn to get along with each other, respect and understand each other. Otherwise most of us would suffer from endless conflicts and fights against others, they can't be really happy without finding peace inside of their mind. 2. Efficiency, positivity and pragmatism. In order to get a better life, Chinese people tend to work hard improving one's self, instead of complaining all day about how bad others are, like a loser. And there shouldn't be that many of pointless debates and infights in a country. When you have a problem, stop talking, find a way to solve it, and do it now. That's Chinese philosophy. Also, too much individualism means there's a less chance for everyone to reflex themselves, because they now tend to shift all the blames to others, so that means they won't be able to find where they need to improve. 3. Less anti-intellectualism and disinformation. Admit or not, the West as a whole in the era of Internet is highly influenced by rumors, fake news, disinformation, misinformation, vile conspiracy theories and populist politicians' lies. It graduately makes people to be extremely hateful and irrational. "Freedom of speech" without any limits is a disaster because at the end of day people would be more likely overwhelmed by false information, than anything positive and true. There are too many selfish and delusional people all over the world now. It could create a huge instability in a society. "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". Also, in China parents just pay much more attention on their children's education.
@Andy-P3 жыл бұрын
@@huyifan83 Good choice. I would disagree that the west is highly influenced by rumors, it can be in some cases and for short periods of time. Now most people if they really want to know something will read several different sources. Yes I have read about childrens education. The gaokao exam. We have children exams and minimum standards to reach but nothing as important as the gaokao. "Pointless debates" well I don't get involved in those. What I call pointless others will call important and vice-versa. The joys of free speech.
