Ok. WTF, this actually worked. i did ran into some errors like "You Can't Access This Shared Folder' because your organization's security policies block. " but i looked it up and fixed it and then it was working perfectly fine. Thanks a lot Edit: My speed however, was around 10Mbps. i wonder if anyone else had that problem....

speed depends on the cable you're using, there are many cable categories, such as cat6, cate-5 ...etc

if you're getting 10MB/second throughput, go to device manager on both machines and set adaptor to run @ gigabit speed. Obviously if the adaptor supports it (most do these days). Its a such a quick and easy way to transfer large amounts of data especially if you're a home user on home plugs/ wifi.

Thank you, other videos arent as... specific. Had a bad router computer to router to computer connection that was 10-20MBz, now with a Crossover cable skipping the router IT IS 113MBz!!!!! this saved me a bunch of money from having to get a router that could handle the workload. they still have ports to connect to the router as well so 2 network connections each.

IIRC, you don't even need a crossover cable to do this these days. Regular Ethernet cables should work.

Crossover is used to connect two devices of the same type like pc to pc or switch to switch however many devices today support auto MDI-X capability also network cards support auto MDI-X capability

You can do it over a network, but a direct pc to pc network using a 1m crossover cable is theoretically faster. I cut off the end of an ISP ethernet cable and rewired it to create my own crossover cable :)

It's supposed part of the "spec" that if both devices have a Gigabit Ethernet NIC and you use any Cat6 cable the magic of Cat6 will operate as both a regular "patch cable" as well as a cross-over cable as needed. If either of the device have a 10/100 only NIC or you use a Cat5 cable this does not work.

Modern network cards can do the crossing internally by themselves. So whether you use straight or crossover, it doesn't matter.

Mentioning crossover cables and I have to say to this day I've never ever even seen this terminology before in the real world. Whenever I use an ethernet cable I have absolutely no idea if it's a straight through or crossover cable. I've bought all of mine at best buy, staples, Walmart, thrift shops, Amazon etc.

Thanks a lot man I just transferred my data via a straight through ethernet cable. And I did everything the same as you except the default gateway to the other PC's IP address for both PCs. The transfer speed was 30/50Mbps it took me around 3 hours to transfer like 300GB so I'm happy with that! It would take so much longer if I had to put it to my external HDD (which is limited on storage) and then transferring it to the other PC.

@@madworker1927 Idk how to do that since it's a laptop, little bit harder than pcs, plus that hdd is like a $15 hdd that's slower than the world's slowest object on earth, so Even if i do managed to do it, both of the device is a laptop so i'm not 100% sure if you even can plug a second hdd in there to transfer the old files to a new ssd, and like i said, i dont want to use the old hdd because it's damn slow

@Nicolas11x12 English ... Good enough. .. even great! Always use a crossover cable. Depending on the length, a quality CAT 6 is only a few dollars, (etc). Adapters may be iffy. And, that's four more physical connections. You don't want your computers discoverable over any network. Once you can see your connection to the other computer, make a shortcut to it. Put it on your desktop, or pin it to your start menu. Then, turn off all options in advanced sharing that allow any computer to be discoverable. (You can even turn off printer and file sharing. *) The way you described is, again, good enough... great! However, you have to start one computer, put the files in the shared folder, turn on the other computer, to then access those files, and visa versa. You mentioned nothing about desktops regarding a person having multiple mouse, keyboard, monitor, or not. Now, for laptops, with two laptops connected with a crossover cable, it's not such a big deal. (And, with laptops, you can have a shortcut on both computers, to initiate a connection, from either one.*) However, with two desktops, most people will be unplugging and re-plugging between computers, etc, to get setup, and to share files, OR, they will have a mess of cables/wires, from, maybe, an old mouse, keyboard, and monitor they don't even want or need on their desk, etc. So, for that: When everything is setup, your shortcut made, etc, enable *Remote Desktop. Then, if the two computers only have one mouse and keyboard, or, if you only want to use one mouse, etc, you simply start the other computer, give it time to boot, and it can be accessed from the main computer with the shortcut, with only the CAT crossover cable, (and password). You can use Windows 10 features like, SNAP Screen, and easily manipulate windows, to have both computers on the same monitor, having, for instance, split screen, or only one computer on the screen at a time, by minimizing one. Also, the entire contents of both computers are accessible, without putting files in a shared folder, then the other computer accessing those files, saving steps from one computer to another, and visa versa. Then, you just copy and paste, from where ever, to where ever. HINT: If you think your transfers are too slow, you can disable Internet on both computers to make sure it is using the LAN/crossover connection, and check speeds, versus when Internet was turned on, E.G. Wi-Fi. The simplest way to do that is use whatever Internet/connection button you have on the Notifications window, far, right of the taskbar, and just click the one for INTERNET AND OR WI-FI, to toggle off(/on). There is no way for me to say which, because I have no way of knowing everyone's settings/options. Obviously, don't accidentally turn off the Ethernet. :-p NEVER turn off any protection, such as password or firewall, etc, as you referenced. NEVER allow any options that would allow anyone to access either computer without the password. NEVER turn off password protected sharing on all networks, even temporarily! It's not necessary, and some may forget to re-enable it! An additional step that can be done when all is finished: In... Change adapter options... select Advanced on the toolbar... Advanced settings... then set the order of the connections. Microsoft Remote Desktop... Microsoft Windows Network Microsoft Web Client This is not necessary! And possibly, only useful if you actually use both computers a lot, using the Remote Desktop option. However, as we all know, different configurations may act differently regarding some aspects, and even regarding what version of Windows 10 is installed, so that may help with the LAN connecting to the other computer first via RD, and helping connecting speed. When connecting to/using the Internet, the necessary connection will be used. NOTE: "You" and "your", is used as a general word/term. :-)

Theres a free program called WinSCP on Windows 10 that I used a few years ago to transfer files from my PC onto my jailbroken PS3. It worked great. Basically it did everything you did but gave the option to switch back quickly to the normal settings after I was done transfering files onto my PS3's hardrive. It could also be used to transfer from Windows to Mac or Windows to Windows PCs. I prefer the program because I don't have to mess changing my Enthernet settings back and forth.

I think software nowadays has auto-MDI or MXI or MDXI (forgot which one it is)....it detects automatically the type of cable it is and adjusts to the cable. Because the different between crossover and straight is how the 8 coloured wires you can see at the end of the cable. Basically you transmit and receive data through set cables. So another pc will transmit on the same cable that you transmit, so the electrical signal would clash in the middle. Silly right? Crossover reverses this at the two ends, but if a software detects it automatically then it can just reverse T and R on the pins by itself.
