I am planning on getting a mini 3d printed tornado siren when I move up to Tennessee. Less people around in the mountains, more opportunity for siren testing. Plus, there are most tornadoes in Tennessee than in Florida, so that is a plus and an increased threat.

deleted my old comment as i was completly wrong, the siren you filmed seems to be a Demay siren, some Demay sirens actually have a lower pitch as they use a 2850rpm motor instead of the more normal 3000, the ones that have a lower pitch are the R3P models but i do not know the exact model of this one. the one you made looks pretty similar to the Pakita LCi siren or a CEN (Construction Electrique Du Nord) NP2S siren. hope this helps.
@TheOfficialDorianelevator5 ай бұрын
if you are wondering how he gets the sound of 3000rpm with a 2850rpm motor, rotor weight normally slows down the motor a lot, but since his motor is so powerful, it cant slow down the motor.

If you're a thoughtful (studying) engineer (like me), you could get away with a less powerful motor and use a 2:1 gear ratio to drive the rotor. However, it may take a little longer for the rotor to reach full speed. Furthermore, you could use a 3 phase motor to reach that speed much faster than using a single phase motor. The other gear would also have to be mounted next to the motor at a precise location to help with the gears meshing. I'm not sure if using different types of gears may help mesh better though. Btw, I'm studying to be an electrical engineer although mechanical engineering also fascinates me.

It doesn’t “Push out” 1.1 kW, it draws 1.1 kW under a heavy load.
@richardwitt62434 жыл бұрын
On the motor plate normaly it is only written the power its giving away at the shaft. So the motor is translating 1.1kW to the shaft on max load. If you want to know how much power it draws you need to divide 1.1kW by the efficiency factor. Under full load the motor would probably draw around 1.2kW, depending on how good the efficiency factor is.
@NicolasSalencPBP4 жыл бұрын
@CatLady That is incorrect. 1.1kw is the mechanical power the motor is able to output under full load. Mechanical power(W) = torque(N.m) x rotation speed(rad/s). To calculate electrical power consumption, you need to refer to the label. (you can pause the video at 0:53) Under full load, this motor pulls 6.08A on 230v. The power factor (cosφ) is 0.99. Input power(W) = Current(A) x Voltage(V) x cos(φ) = 6.08 x 230 x 0.99 = 1385 W So because of energy losses due to the efficiency factor, under full load the motor pulls around 1385 W and pushes out around 1.1kW 285W are mainly converted into heat which need to be dissipated by the motors fan and fins.
