Her poetry makes me want to cry. She has a very beautiful way of describing some extremely disturbing mess.

She make me cry. I've been watching spoken word for a little bit now on KZbin but only this one really made tear pour down my cheeks. I think it's just because I might on day be the mother of the black boy. I just scrolled down to the comments and I'm appalled by the people calling this racist. You just don't understand and maybe you never will and you can be thankful for that.

She is a very deep person and white people need to hear these words..because it is real and true. Black people will truly be blessed by the heavens and through this poetry..you can see evidence of it.

This kind of reminds me of an episode of the Fresh Prince where Will knows what to do but Carlton doesn't. Except you know, more serious.

Why do comments like, "I don't really understand this. Can someone please help me?", get so many negative votes? I mean they obviously came here for poetry but couldn't quite understand this one. Why hate on them for not being able to understand as quickly as you?

I think it means that poor Jason was a victim of racism too, because in his eyes they were all the same, praying to God, singing to God, laughing together at each others jokes.I'm sure when Jason found out what really happened, he experienced some pain. When somebody insults your friends they may as will be insulting you too. The only difference was, was that they were warned that this might happen sometimes, and that they need to just smile and move on. Jason was not prepared for it because his mother never thought this would happen to him, but it did, and he didn't handle it optimally. The title is just the title it doesn't cover the whole story, it is there for mainly creative purposes. When you love someone, you become apart of them. Not just romantic love but brotherly love as well. That's deep stuff, isn't it? Let me tell you something personal, though you might not care. Both my cousins are from China, they were adopted by my aunt. When I look at them I cannot imagine a life without them, it feels like they were just always my cousins even if I was 8 when my first cousin was adopted. I don't see a different race, I see my family. So when other people see the race difference in them with negative views, and act on them, you have just insulted all of us as a whole. Sorry if any of you disagree or think I don't have a right to say this because I am white and have no idea what it's like to be different from other people around me. Because last time I checked we are all different somehow, and we all know what it's like to be teased for it too.

dickottel So a country like South Africa, which actually exists? Surprise surprise. The history of apartheid and its ramifications are alive and well over there.

Kent Rian actually according to something I saw on the national geographic channel (or maybe discovery. One of the two) white people may be the minority but they still hold precedence over the blacks

Those who gave the honest question a negative vote are just glad that they finally have a way of making themselves feel smarter, 'cause they don't fucking get it either... if they DID, they'd have prolly explained it =P

rainbowwingd a mom told her son's to always respond nicely to police even if they did nothing wrong and the police were just being mean. There happened to be a white friend Jason with them who was unaware of the racism his friends experienced until they were all allowed to go home.

This makes me wonder about mixed kids who have a white mother. My boyfriend is black. I'm white. Will there be things I won't be able to prepare my children for if we end up together in the end?
@Akilopa1
@Akilopa1 7 жыл бұрын
Sierra Kihlstadius There are things no mother can prepare their kids for. Race will matter but it is what you allow it to be. I am sure, though, that you will be a great mother. Just don't pretend race isn't real talk to them so they don't resent their whiteness. Much love 💜💜💜

this isnt racist and if a white woman made a poem called "things only a white mother can teach you" i wouldnt think its racist its all in the message behind it and......this one wasnt her being racist.??

did you listen to the poem orrrr... its talking about how black moms have to teach there kids awareness of their race and police brutality and how thats kinda sad. like no we shouldnt have to do it but if we dont imagine how much more scarier it would have beed for them. speak up on injustice is not an injustice. its the only way to end injustice. but the fact that you payed more attention to the title of the poem and less to the police brutality and racial profiling makes me assume you dont give a shit about actual racism unless it is about you.

i'm venezuelan, and my country is a mess. but it's interesting seeing how racism still goes on in other countries. here there is no real racism. you'll be looked down upon if you are a racist person, therefore filthy.

These days, no intelligent human being wants to be a cop =P If I was a cop I'd have to arrest all the other cops for being assholes and racists and trippin' on the power, but until I WAS one of the other cops (and with that attitude II never would be), no other cops would take what I said seriously, and I'd be kicked off the force. Which is why I'm not dumb enough to enlist in the first place =P

I like how it's okay for this poem to be called "Things only a black mother can prepare you for." But if the title was "Things only a white mother can prepare you for." It would be deemed racist.
