Guatemala was my last trip before Covid hit, and to date I rate it as the most underrated country I have been to. Lake Atitlan was breathtaking and so was Flores and Tikal. The people were so nice and the food was amazing too. Why this country isn't more well known in travel circles is a puzzle.

Hi, thank you for your fantastic videos. I am planning an extended trip around South America next year. Good luck with your travels ❤ Lisa.

South America next year sounds amazing! In our experience so far, medication in Mexico and Guatemala have been more affordable than we are used to in Canada. It's been a few years since we were in South America, but I recall regular medications like acetaminophen and ibuprofen being quite affordable. We don't have experience with prescription medications in South America unfortunately as we never got any during out travels there.

Advice I was given: Even if you're fluent in Spanish, pretend like you don't understand it when confronted by the police. Most often, they'll just wave you on. You're not worth the hassle.

We can definitely see how someone would give that advice! We have found it really helps to reduce our Spanish skills during these police encounters. In this case we really did have a hard time understanding the officer, so we weren't really having to play down our Spanish very much 😅

Oh no! We didn't exchange all $400, we just exchanged $50 or so. We actually want to keep the USD as we'll need it next year when we likely go back through Mexico again. we only exchange a small amount of money with the exchangers at the border because their exchange rate is not very favourable (there's a pretty high convenience fee, which we totally understand and agree with paying, but we limit how much we exchange in situations like these as a result of the high cost).
