I’ve been a silent follower since I became a mom 2 years ago and I always felt something different from your content vs other influencers. Thank you for your honesty! It’s easy to fall into the trap that “I’m the only one who struggles with comparison/mom guilt/ social pressure” I recently deleted all social media apps besides YT and gosh I didn’t realize how noisy it was before!! It’s only been 2 weeks but my mind feels so much more at peace

Girl you guys need to start a podcast! You’re talking about such important topics and in such a way that is so smart and reflective! I love the self awareness. For me… I think my biggest issue with the trad wife movement and the one that is most detrimental is not with the hobbies themselves because like at the end of the day… cooking from scratch, sewing, sourdough, homesteading, wearing dresses… that’s all fine! If that makes you happy go for it. But when it starts to become “this is what a Christian woman should look like” in your mind… that’s where we should take a step back. God has given each of us unique talents and abilities and when we look to culture and trends for identity instead of finding our identity in Christ, we are going to suffer from it. Ok like for example…. A trad wife influencer posts a reel of her in a dress… making homemade from-scratch meals, wearing an apron, and then dances around her husband saying how we must serve our husbands…. We have to remember That doesn’t mean you must do all those things to live out that value… we are called to love our husbands but not in the way another woman loves theirs. By connecting in our own way with our own families and husbands. Privately and not on social media. Does that make sense? I actually literally deleted my social media because I had a hard time disconnecting from all this… I felt called to shut out the noise. So at the end of the day as Christians let’s remember that the trad wife movement is a TREND but a life serving the Lord is not. Seperate the two!
@Nicolelelagreen

Okay WOWWWW this is gold and I appreciate you sharing. So well said and I agree completely. I have felt so disconnected because my version of “serving my husband” doesn’t exactly look like that either. I think too, there’s can be some contradictions with the movement, as typically a trad wife shouldn’t be working and making money because that’s the husbands role, yet many of these female influencers are making money as content creators, but they don’t speak about that? So much to dive into there honestly but thanks for the thoughts and GOD BLESS SIS ❤️

I have so much empathy and respect for you both for having this conversation. I’ll be honest though, I don’t have those same feelings. I only feel inspired when I see others do great and wonderful things. If it seems unrealistic to me, I admire it and keep moving on with my life. I have never felt ‘pressured’ to do anything. I’ve only been inspired. Personally I have been accused of making others feel bad about their own life choices when I have shared my convictions on why I chose certain life decisions. After that I decided it’s best not to share online because ultimately someone is going to get upset and think that my Facebook post is about them. I am definitely a harsh critic towards myself, and my mind does get the better of me. I don’t know, I just don’t fully relate to having a problem with what other people are sharing. Maybe I deal with this organically and I just ‘unfollow’ or move on in an unconscious way. I’m not sure why I’m like this, but I don’t feel intimidated or stressed by what other people post online. I just admire it.

Can I just add. My life is not picture perfect, we rent, our furniture is crabby, we made so many mistakes in our lives that we are still trying to fix. I am full of burdens and I’m not a role model. I am far from a high standard of human living. I would hate for someone to read this and think ‘well isn’t your life perfect’ 😅

Looooved this convo! There have been many I’ve had to unfollow and generally have stepped away from socials bc of comparing and I found myself going to their accounts instead of listening to my gut for parenting. Totally am guilty for stepping in on the 1,000 hours outside, but I got so obsessive about it and had to stop lol. And I’m not convinced it’s possible to do in the Midwest 😅 Also, your sister is great, I’d love to see her back :) Just want to add that you have positivity influenced me to feel okay taking time for myself to workout and join a group at church. I can see the realness of being a family of 5 in your videos, and am thankful for your honesty.

Listen to your gut mama we know what’s best for our kids! I’m so happy to hear that you are making time for yourself to work out and joined a group! You’re actually encouraging me to join a group lol we are currently visiting some other churches closer to our house right now and I’m hoping to find a great small group!

Homeschool is definitely my sour dough. I see all these moms on social media homeschooling their kids and I feel the pressure. I recently became a sahm when my second child was born due to the fact that two kids in daycare would take my entire paycheck. But my first child was in daycare from 4 months old to 4 years old and that transition to having him home all the time, being super energetic and not sitting still for a lesson and impatience and lack of creativity with how to teach him leaves me overwhelmed and unsuccessful as a potential home schooler. Plus nursing full time leaves me without any time. But then I hear about all the crazy things being taught in public school and the financial reality of not being able to afford to send my kids to private school really leaves me at an impass on how best to educate my sons. Also my hot take on all these homeschool moms on social media have daughters as their first child and I just feel like it’s easier to homeschool a girl than a boy.
@Nicolelelagreen
@Nicolelelagreen 4 ай бұрын
I totally hear you and appreciate you chiming in! Homeschool is all over social media too, and the pressure to be a homeschool family is real. The realities of how it plays out is so different for each family and taking the time to assess if doing it is even life giving to you is key. As the teacher and carrier of ALL things homeschool and mom, you have to make sure it leaves you thriving and if it doesn’t, that is okay! You’re still an amazing mom and doing so much for your family! My sis had to send her kids to public school last year and felt hesitant about it but found it to be so good for their family and not at all what her worst fears were. She reassesses every year if it’s still a good fit for their family and plans to revisit homeschool for all 3 in the future. We hope to do a video in the future with some encouragement about whatever school journey you take along with our specific experiences with homeschool, private school, and public school.

Love love loved this video! Thank you for having this conversation on the internet 🙏🏻 Amanda really hit the nail on the head when she said something along the lines of you won’t hold yourself to a certain standard if you are cont consuming the content. I started watching Motherhood content of course when I first became a mom. It’s an opportunity to create a community of “friends” that you may or may not have in real life. Even though I am blessed to have many mom friends in real life that are in a similar stage of their motherhood journey as I am I think I became dependent on the daily connection with someone experiencing the same things as I and it was maybe just easier to watch a video than reach out to a friend 😢. It was not until I realized I was feeling jealousy and envy for the things that others were attaining/achieving that I had to say goodbye and stop watching certain channels.
@Nicolelelagreen
@Nicolelelagreen 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for opening up about this! That’s a good point I never really thought about, watching a video instead of reaching out to our real life community for prayer or support. I’m glad you were reflective enough to realize the envy you were struggling with 👏🏽👏🏽 wishing you the absolute best!

I agree with so much said in this video. The only thing I want to add is that I think there is value in viewers sharing disagreeing comments with creators because you learn something about your audience and also how your content is perceived that you might otherwise miss. As long as all discord is respectful.

You’re definitely my favorite mom on the internet. I feel such a peace watching your content. My sourdough is overthinking decisions for my children. I’m a momma to twin boys with autism. One is advanced in cognitive development and the other is delayed and non verbal right now. They receive so many therapies and I am running on empty trying to do all the things to help them have a successful/ easier transition. I recently had to decrease the amount of therapy my one kiddo was receiving and it eats me up sometimes because I fell like I’m doing a disservice to him. I’m constantly comparing myself to other moms but for some reason I can’t seem to understand that everyone’s situation is different. I’m literally the main care taking of the boys my husband’s job is very demanding and his is not home as much. And I know there are people struggling with managing one kiddo and I have 2 with disabilities. I need to learn to give myself grace it’s just super hard with my type A personality. I can’t help to feel like I’m on a hamster wheel all day. I do so many things but non of them well it’s draining and exhausting and I hate complaining so I normally internalize everything.

You are incredible, your sons are so blessed to have a mom who is in their corner trying so hard to give them what they need! I get the overthinking decisions, especially when you want to set your kids up for success. There are a million paths we can take as parents, and we’ll never know what could’ve happened if we took another path with how we parented or with the choices we made for the kids. It’s best to settle hard into what you ARE doing and trust your instinct. Pivot when you need to but be all in with what you are doing and know that it’s okay if it’s not 100% as long as you trying and your heart is in the right place. ❤ I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and encouragement, I hope you truly know your value and how awesome of a mom you are!

My sourdough is definitely just making everything from scratch too. Like mayo, yogurt, etc. I have 3 littles and am planning to homeschool so it’s a LOT already but seeing others who have 4 and are doing it all and simultaneously making it look like a breeze have got me thinking I should be doing the same 😅 for the most part it’s good encouragement and something to strive for but on some days it really makes me feel like I’m not doing enough. Of course, I have to remind myself that their husbands a lot of the time are staying home and helping with the kids and the household etc, and that’s not my situation 🙈
@Nicolelelagreen
@Nicolelelagreen 4 ай бұрын
Oh you are totally right! That’s a huge thing too, everything from scratch! Maybe we start small and make one thing from scratch per week to see if we legit even like it but release what isn’t jiving with us. I will say, I’ve peaked into the lives of those who are “doing it all” and the reality is that they have A LOT of help. Whether babysitters, house cleaners, tutors, etc, if it looks like they’re doing it all on their own…I’m certain they aren’t, and that’s okay too, as long as they don’t pretend they are doing it alone. But if we can’t juggle everything, maybe it’s because we aren’t even supposed to. Props to you for doing as much as you already are, all moms are amazing! ❤

More videos like this please. I don’t have a “sourdough” at the moment but I remember it being breastfeeding when I was pregnant. I had a then friend who kept lecturing me about the benefits of breastfeeding at a party I was hosting because I said I might not do it this time and just do formula. I politely told her no thank you. Being my competitive self I wanted to prove that I could conquer breastfeeding this time since I got post partum depression last time. I tried everything breastfeeding, drove myself to an almost depression when I decided it wasn’t worth it. I dropped that friend and others like her. Haha. So proud of myself. I don’t need that energy in my life.

It's always so refreshing listening to your take on things. I agree it can be so overwhelming when someone with similar values and lifestyle can make you feel pressure to do certain things. For me, I struggle with the cottagecore dresses everyday type style. I think they are beautiful and I want to dress feminine and modest, but we live in the country and I have 3 kids... and I find aside from church, dresses just aren't practical for me in this season of little kids and weeding garden beds 😅 so I'll just admire the trad wife dresses and do what's best for me.

We would bring our daughter to watch her cousins play soccer. The year she was turning 4 we asked her if she wants to try playing soccer on a team just like her cousins. She excitedly said yes and it was a great experience for her and my husband and I. I think starting sports depends a lot on the child’s personality and willingness to try something new. Some kids really don’t want to play sports others are eager to start. It’s a great idea to ask the child if they want to try a sport…. Of course this is if financially and schedule wise it is doable for the family. Great video with your sister. ❤

I like the part where you said that if we don't wanna watch moms that make us feel bad about ourselves then just opt out from watching it.

@@Nicolelelagreen you do a really good job of creating content that is aspirational (aka gardening, being a SAHM, etc) and keeping it real (talking about how you are trying to get back into fitness, cooking, keeping a schedule, etc).

Wow, I really needed this!! I’m a SAHM/Wife to 2 beautiful girls and I truly enjoy it. The one thing that drives me up a wall, which is what you & your sister mentioned towards the end, is how other moms ask if my oldest will join preschool, do any activities and/or go to public school….. which always leads to them concerned that I’m not doing enough for my girls when it comes to social skills. Like girl, my kids talk and say hi to everyone they see and start conversations with everyone and even play with other kids with no problem 😅 So I know I’m doing a great job when I see it in action. And I’m gonna be honest, it’s so freaking expensive having them join activities when they’re a toddler when they can do it for free at any time on play dates.

@@jessicadaniel6345 Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts!❤ 100% agree! Not everyone can swing signing up for a bunch of costly activities! We can get creative and find ways for them to get a similar experience without breaking the bank. Love your confidence in your choices, seriously, I want to see this spread to other mamas!

My main sourdough is a few things and drains me hard :/ i have a 2 yr old for now •Everyone is having kids back to back but id prefer a age gap •Do i homeschool or public school (work or dont work) •cut back more on tv like influencers or is 2 hrs a day spread out reasonable •Cycle of getting influenced of toys or items later to declutter them because less is truly more for me

Thanks for sharing! I was just chatting with my cousin about spreading out age gaps and how for some people it’s better for their mental health instead of back to back, truly depends on the mom!

My sourdough is homeschool!! Im a christian SAHM to 3 (potentially 4) little boys. And I need a break and some load taken off me and I know that I schooling them wouldn't be whats best for them. Yet, social media and park moms have made it so homeschool is the "only correct thing to do" and I keep seeing reels about the negative impacts of kids going away from their moms for that long etc. It is heartbreaking and exhausting 😮‍💨

Thanks for sharing your experience! I just want to encourage you to lean hard into what you feel is best for them (with prayer of course), mute out the voices of who is doing what and the pressure to homeschool because you’re Christian. YOU know what you can handle and what God is calling you to do, follow that path. It might look different than what others do but I promise that if you’re doing it prayerfully and walking with him, he will guide you and use your kids in the world to be a light.

I chose to mute a certain influencer because her content was not relatable anymore and was constantly making me feel like a terrible mom. It felt like it moves from one trend to the next. Now I barely watch her but I come back sometimes to see some videos. I think there’s something to be said about being aware of how certain content makes you feel and you might not be in the season where you can watch that. To each their own. Good for her, but not for me 😊

My problem with trends is that God made us all so uniquely different, but trends force us to be the same. Getting off of social media made me reconnect with the person God made me to be. Also I get a lot of pressure about putting my toddler in preschool and having outside activities. My son also has so many cousins and goes to the library and park so much, why force our children into things that will cost us a lot of money and maybe will make them end up in a situation they won’t be comfortable with just to follow what everyone else is doing?
@Nicolelelagreen
@Nicolelelagreen 4 ай бұрын
Love your thoughts on this, God totally made us with beautiful differences and it’s easy to miss them when you start wanting to follow what everyone else does. When we take the time to hear from Him we can truly see He desires us to live! And good for you knowing what your family needs regarding activities and socialization. Parents know what’s best for their kids because they KNOW their kid’s needs like no one else does! 👏🏼

I really love you and your content and honesty. But you are kind of that influencer also, who seems so effortless and perfect to me. You make your own caugh medicine, you grow stuff in the garden, you paint the house, everything is always organized and neat. I know it is not all the time but that is what I see. Always shopping (thrifting) and decluttering. You know what I mean? It is the same as you mentioning the trade wife contents that brings flowers in the house and cook from scratch. These kind of things are also what could make me feel like a bad mom cause I don't do half these things. Oh and homeschooling. That is again a pressure.

Hey! I appreciate your honesty here and honestly I’ve mentioned this a lot of times in my videos, that I have a fear of also causing other moms to feel “not enough” because I’m sharing all these things I get done. I think a few things, 1) even as I share all I’m doing, I try to do it in a very realistic way, sharing the ups and downs of the process, including mistakes along the way. As well as being balanced in my approach how much to spend or when to stop and rest. And 2) this is my job at the end of the day, making content. And my content happens to be all the things I’m getting done haha! So like, it causes me to be more productive in a sense because it’s literally my job. Whereas, a mom who’s already working a FT job outta the house may find this unrealistic to their life and feel “not enough”. In which, like we shared in this video, that mom may not benefit from following me and if suggest finding moms who align more with their lifestyle. I hope that makes sense. I’d also like to ask you, what do you think would help you feel more like I don’t “have it all together”? Genuinely curious how I can improve in this area because I don’t want to come off that way of course. It’s def a fine line of trying to motivate others while being relatable and realistic. Lately I’ve been calling it “gentle motivation” … Wishing you the best mama!
