This video is so needed. I'm tired of these other videos where they rate these things but don't put enough emphasis on how some of the certs really aren't for beginners. Then folks try and get them, and go out there staring at logs all day, wondering why they're not really working on all the fancy management or higher level stuff they learned about. Or they learn that they don't have the experience to even get the credential.

You talked about CCSK but it doesn't seem to have made it to the A section.

Comptia Security+ and Comptia CySA+, and the CySA was an absolute BEAST for someone trying to get into Cybersecurity. Prepare to study and learn those labs.
@gogomaximoff4554Ай бұрын
Wait, basically the certs that gives you a lot of technical/hands on practice skills are ranked lower? Why? How can Security+ be better for someone that wants to do pen-testing than, let’s say PNPT? Care to explain?

8:50 - I wanted to get a certification related to management as I was an IT manager for over 10 years but my lack of experience in cybersecurity didn't qualify me for that. Understandably though. I found Interesting that from all certifications there's just one that's open book, CCSK. Also interesting how almost everyone would expect you to memorize stuff, I don't think that practical. My opinion only... thank you!

Some of these certifications have experience requirements so they're unattainable for beginners. For example the CISM, CISA, CISSP, and CCSP require 5 years of experience (although you can knock off a year or two if you have a degree). You can still take the exams even if you don't have enough experience. You just won't be certified until you've met the requirements and passed the application/endorsement process. The certs you put in S and A rank are perfect though for beginners. *Edit* Actually, CySA+ and Pentest+ are kinda hard now that I think about it. I'd probably put them in B tier.
@archerullrune11 ай бұрын
CySA+ is the same way, minimum of 3 years.
@CameronEvolved11 ай бұрын
@@archerullrune CySA+ recommends 4 years, but they'll still certify you as long as you pass. Unfortunately the others have hard requirements and they won't certify you without first proving that you meet the minimum experience requirements.

@@CameronEvolved Yea I started my cybersecurity journey last year, I got A+, Security+, and Cysa+ in that year but man its hard to get a job with those even something like helpdesk and that CCSP is something else...

As a beginner looking to get into Cybersecurity specifically GRC/auditing should i focus on certs first then study the foundational and skills or work on the skills and foundational knowledge first then certs after??

Hi Nicole, Great video. Just one question: what's your opinion on ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) is it worth doing it? Does it add any value to the resume?

Good list, I believe the Cysa+ should go down one level with its new exam release as it's considered an intermediate cert and more Siem and SOC heavy

Tldr. Only comptia worth it is sec+ especially starting out. Load up on sans. TCM is good. Those other certs require experience which you didn't mention.

TCM PNPT 🎉🙌🏻... Heath's team is awesome! DeWalt is the best and always active on discord to help ppl. I wouldn't consider it a good choice for beginners but it's a great cert to strive for. This teir list is so on point. The OSCP is mosdef NOT a beginner cert and is very very costly to take and moreso to fail.

Currently working on my BTL 1 cert. I already have A+ and Net+. Do you think I could get a entry SOC job with just those three, or should I get Sec+ before applying to jobs?
@jeffnaval489410 ай бұрын
The a+ net+ sec+ is not enough to get a soc. You need to add 1more cert like cysa or cism or CEH to get soc job. Combined Cysa+CEH is more preffered because ceh is easy to finish.
