This is pretty well exactly how we used to do it back in the very early '80s, In those days were used to refer to our short boards as jump boards.

You are absolutely killing it with your videos lately... liked the challenge video, loved this tutorial.... putting it into practice is another matter, I nosedove and cannonballed hard today, but at least i now know what i fucked up, apart from being completly overpowered:) There isn’t many beginner jumping tutorials out there or simple small wave/ chop guides... its all jibes (in flat water perfect conditions) or massive double-push-forward-loop-burner-tabletop guides.
@Nico_GER75 жыл бұрын
Thank you - trying my best :-). Any suggestions for other tutorials? Keep up the cannonballs, haha

helped me so much. i live in a lake where the water is flat so this helped me a lot!
@markoconnor6804 ай бұрын
Those instructions were excellent, precise and accurately in time with the actions shown which proved that wave jumps are easier to perform than may have appeared to anyone making their first attempts to perform one themselves, and practice makes perfect.

This is EXCELLENT teaching. You don't only talk about WHAT TO DO but also what NOT to do. Also, what might happen if you don't do it perfectly. THANK YOU.

Nice, as these are the conditions most of us experience for jumping, or cruise jump as I like to call it :) One thing to add is that when jumping at speed as in this video I find it helps to land pointing a bit downwind to avoid fin spinout. Maybe if you have a ultra pro quality fin this is not a problem.

How much does board size matter? I'm still a beginner and I tried today on a 141L starboard carve. I am planing, in harness and in straps. My board would just go sideways once air got under it and it was wayyy too heavy with the wind to get it flat. I could still land it, but felt wrong to have my board sidways. Do I tighten my straps? I have them somewhat lose for ease of access at the trade of control.
@Nico_GER74 жыл бұрын
The board size matters a lot of course. With a 141l it's gonna be quite a bit more difficult. With a wide board like this, often only the windward rail comes out, like you explained, because the other rail is so far away and it's hard to lift the side you're not standing on. Tighter footstraps can definitely help, but it will stay difficult with this one regardless.

Great quality! Are you scared some times when you go full power downwind with some nasty chop?
@Nico_GER75 жыл бұрын
😄 Usually not. It's all about control 😜. It has to be reeeaaallly choppy and super windy for me to start being scared.

What are some common causes of spin out when landing?
@Boooaaszelf5 жыл бұрын
Water combined with air around the fin and too much foot pressure

I meant in terms of technique. Landing with too much weight on back foot?

Hi, what is the lowest board volume at which attempt to jump is purposless? I guess it is better to get low volume board for learning, but does it make sense with 135 l board ?
@Nico_GER72 жыл бұрын
135 is already quite a lot for jumping. It all depends on the wind and your weight. If it's windy enough you can jump with 80l 😄. Beyond 140l it's not so easy to learn, because the board is heavy. Something around 100l is good. But again, depends on the wind, your weight and also if there are waves etc.
@kwaterny2 жыл бұрын
@@Nico_GER7 Thank u Nico for your response. I'm 80kg and I used to surf 135l on the choppy lake even up to 20kt. With the sail around 6.7-7.0 the set is not light weight so now I wonder whether I should improve my technique or use another board because 135 just does not fit into jumping.
