Thank you for the teachings of Nietzsche according to Michael Pierce! I value your digressions and I was laughing before you did at the jump from Joseph Smith to Hermes Trismegistus. I find it somewhat disturbing the extent to which my thoughts about myself as an INTJ map onto your explanations of Nietzsche’s concepts of pity, envy, and the forked-tongued nature of admiration. I was just listening to a lecture about people who are high in trait Agreeableness also being high in avoidance motivation…. Thus they use affability as a shield against the threat of punishment. Furthermore, I couldn’t help but think about your rejection of the idea that God keeps everyone on their toes by making the nature of true success unknowable. To me this seems a lot like game theory, if one replaces God with The System. The system keeps everyone playing along by confusing real pleasure, real success, real partnership, with lack of self-knowledge. In this state we just keep bumbling along in a post-truth world, feeding the game with our failures and minor successes alike. Refreshing to hear you argue that there has to be a better way.
