Yeah, and he did make a valid point about the length of their coastline and spread of illegals being over a large area as a reason some get through. Although the majority come via Calais as that's the most direct route and also it's unacceptable that the French navy or coastguard escort even a single person to the UK border. The coastline size argument isn't a major one. They could and should be doing more at Calais, such as controlling the sale and supply of dinghies and life jackets, for starters. I'm certain too that the people smugglers aren't as prolific as the pro-'refugee' charities that operate in that area and in many cases they are one and the same, doing the same thing!

@Dave Doherty I don’t get your points. You are making very vague statements. What you are saying doesn’t add up. As far as French racism towards the English, it’s either a grotesque statement or it’s an amusing statement. Let’s just say you are a comic and you are attempting to make a joke here. As far as French racism towards ethnic minorities, I would say that stating that the French are racist is simply too facile. It’s a hollow and vacuous statement. With all due respect, I would point out that Brexit has created an unwelcoming environment for foreigners in England. You might have heard that many have left and do not want to go back. Ever. For my part, when I was in England two years ago, I had a swell time. I can’t wait to go back. But I’ll wait for the supermarket shelves to fill up again. Unless the photos of empty shelves are a EU/French conspiracy to spite England out of French racism against the English, and the supermarket shelves are actually full of diverse products from all over the world, like here in France 🇫🇷, where ethnic minorities are despised and humiliated every day. Great interview Nigel. The french don’t want to stop them coming over as it’s some problems less for them but more for us. The nationally of the immigrants aren’t ex British colonies as many speak french not English.

France should be fined for every illegal immigrant they do not stop crossing How can it be implemented? Easy, take 50k for every one that makes it over by taking it off the payments they already recieve for "protecting the border." We pay for all the high tech equipment, training of border officers, training of dogs absolutely everything. They should be fined for every time they fail the task they are being paid to do.

Well done Nigel. You got to raise some burning questions that we never get anywhere else. I totally agree with your argument.

"Prove it!" How many times do you hear modern day 'journalists' say this anymore? It used to be the most basic requirement for any news story. Enjoying Farage so far it is good to see

Interesting point when considering the coastline of France and likely points of embarkation to the UK. And the money certainly seems sufficient to provide proper oversight IF the will is there. But THAT is probably what is actually absent. The French are probably only too happy to see them go!

If you claim that you stop half the boats then you must be seeing all the boats leave otherwise how do you know what percentage you are stopping.

they are bleeding our public services dry, the waiting times for Doctors, Dentists, Schools ect are already at braking point, and the government still do nothing. Stop giving them houses, benefit and health-care unless life or death, and they will stop coming. ,we are not able to get a ambulance, but they step off dinghies onto one waiting for them

He mentioned a very fair point that we are their clients and they are protecting our borders. I agree so let’s forget the French helping out let’s just protect our borders and send them back to France and say “this is what you asked for so it’s your problem now”

Anyone listening to this knows what's coming. I certainly don't feel reassured. Patel needs sacking and there needs to be better investment into protecting our shores. Drag the retired oil rigs out and arrest and hold them there to prevent them stepping onto the UK shores before returning them. Four star hotels? Only in the U.K.

There is an absolutely tiny part of the channel that is narrow enough that it is crossable by small boats. Of course you don't need to catch people on land, you can easily see and catch people as soon as they are on the water. I feel sorry for this mayor because he has all these people (migrants and smugglers) gathering in his town and making quite a lot of problems for him. He seems like a reasonable and good person and i appreciate him coming on to GB news to speak to us about his perspective.

I can't understand why the £54 million couldn't have gone to pay the SAS or army to go after and find the smugglers and the top organiser's, I'm sure their will be some high up the chain people who don't even get their hands dirty and just sit back and watch the money roll in, I think also they are in the UK, but how do they clean the money up???

This makes me angry, I am English living in Spain and I am jumping through hoops and strict rules and spending a lot of money to try and legally stay in Spain, although I have paid 1000's into their economy owning a property a car ect. And here I stand with the chance of being deported. Sick!
