What a very strange answer to the question about surgeries in Clacton If parliament have blocked him from having physical surgeries as he alluded to (without explicitly saying) then surely that's your first response He clearly doesn't want to have physical surgeries and doesn't think they're important so why doesn't he just own that fact?

@benjiaj19633 ай бұрын
Given how he answered the question, I'd guess there'd been credible threats or Intel. Not something you'd want to go shouting about on a radio show if you were the target of I'd think. He didn't seem impressed that he's unable to do them. If it was that he didn't want to have in person visits he would have said they are available if it's required but I've gone for phone calls/zoom and email mostly so I can see X times more people and spend more time on work for constituents.
@zacbroxson12233 ай бұрын
@@benjiaj1963 you can read into it however you like can't you? The speakers office have said they haven't offered the advice not to hold surgeries Therefore he should hold them or just explain his reasons why he isn't. I acknowledge that he may have more threat than your average MP but he does other public appearances so why his holding a surgery so different?
@benjiaj19633 ай бұрын
Sure can, there's only likely a handful of people including Nigel who know the ins and outs of it. He said the security team have advised he should do some things and not do others. It could be directly like "Do not do in person surgeries" or "we'd advise you shouldn't do open door anyone can walk in type surgeries until you have x security precaution in place" or even "there's been a specific threat for a certain time/by certain people so hold fire until it's sorted". I'm not sure what other public appearances he's been doing lately but if it's group events there's likely a security detail there for him and others. I get what you're saying, I'm sure for issues that need to be dealt with in person there's a way to make it happen but it would be silly for him to have an open door for anyone in the country to walk in at any time they wish when there's a minority that are a credible threat to him. He's not exactly going to say on national radio how to openly access him, genuine Clacton residents are the only ones who need to know.
