"Well the French could shut it down overnight" isn't an argument so much as it's speculation and fear mongering.

Just how much fossil fuel goes into the production of these electric cars? Renewable energy is a myth. I'll believe in it when I see a solar panel factory run on solar panels with all the necessary raw materials gathered and the delivery logistics also run on solar panels .

What a comment after ten years he used 8 different electric vehicles - presumably in the main because he could afford it. How does using or having to use 8 different cars in 10 years relate to sustainability or be environmentally friendly?

Most of the environmental footprint of cars goes into their manufacture. The greenest policy is to keep old cars on the road as long as possible. Obviously, this runs counter to motor manufacturer's interests, who want to sell as many new cars as possible.

What most electric car converts seem to miss is the fact that the majority of our electricity is generated using fossil fuels (mainly gas) or nuclear power. Take yesterday, renewables made up less than 20% of generation. So, your electric car is really a natural gas and uranium powered car!

It’s not the quantity of electricity which is the main problem, it’s the distribution of it. This is greatly compounded by charging times and as many people don’t have a drive or garage anyway, then it will require service stations. My local Supermarket handles a refuel every 10 minutes or so-if no additional shopping is involved-There’s sufficient space for about 100 cars on the forecourt, but rarely will people queue if there are more than 40 cars going through the 16 pumps. So if there are 16 charging stations, being generous and say 30minutes per refuel, then that 60 car limit becomes 20 max. To make that station work it as it is today it will require 48 charging points and a consequent land increase of 300% . It means digging up every road back to a major sub station and installing a substantial transformer close to the the charging station. This is a phenomenal amount of road closures and disturbance, increased land space requirements and new distribution transformers and it would have to be countrywide - it makes HS2 look like the building of a rabbit hutch by comparison. So it’s clear. This is not about everyone having EVs, it’s about taking personal transport away from the population and sticking them on buses.

Lord Bamford is going in the right direction with hydrogen not electric which is far more expensive to produce the cars and harmful even before you start plugging them all in

It's far more harmful to produce electric cars and no we don't have enough electricity it's at breaking point most of the time , then you have the charge times for EVs ,even if they got charging time down imagine the cars waiting in line to charge up at motorway services ! And the amount of extra time it will put on a journey , EVs are great for city driving but not for long distance ! Then what's going to happen to all the batteries and how much will second hand cars be worth ! How are millions of people going to charge them when they don't have off road parking ! What will happen if the battery runs flat on a journey ! What if stuck on a motorway for hours on freezing weather ! Can you heat the car up ! All the people who buy them because they pay no tax well as soon as they become the norm then the government will put a tax on them ! And I'd bet an increase in pedestrian accidents due to being so quiet . Electric isn't the future ! Well not ones that need charging at points
