Was very sad to see Jemmo leave Forest, wanted him to do well at Sheffield Wednesday at that time.
@Lee_yourboylee3 жыл бұрын
I got the impression from here and elsewhere that Cloughie dropped him for the cup final out of spite. That he didn't like him because he felt he was too full of himself and wanted to bring him down a peg or two. Or maybe even more sinister, that he got a kick out of hurting him, breaking his heart. I think he was fond of Glover who was apparently an unassuming lad. I'm obviously only guessing, and it's a pretty dark take which may be completely wrong. Especially as it would involve being willing to jeopardise his chances of winning the FA cup by picking an inferior player. But Cloughie was a complex fella.
@johnmackie58512 жыл бұрын
Bit late to the party here, but according to Peter Ward (Brighton to Forest, then on loan back to Brighton), Clough wouldn’t allow him to play in the 1983 FA Cup Final because he’s never played in one. I know he was an amazing character and manage, but deffo a nasty side to him.
@Lee_yourboylee2 жыл бұрын
@@johnmackie5851 Interesting. Some say Clough never got over how his own brilliant playing career was cruelly cut short by a brutal tackle. It seems like he could be tremendously kind but also very hard.
@sharhutt8229 Жыл бұрын
@@johnmackie5851 91 cup final ... forest v spurs ... just remember Gazza injuring himself with a shocker of a challenge. Read loads on Clough, Jemson has an arrogance to him Clough wouldnt appreciate, plus in my mind better on the pitch that day.

This was a quality episode. I was about 10 when the Prem started so I remember Nigel very well. A lot of people have forgotten that era, but for me it was the best due to the memories. He seems a really funny guy also. Crazy to think teams like Notts Forrest and Sheffield Wednesday have been back in the Prem League since relegation

When Jemson was fit and in form he was great, saw him score twice against Southampton in 91. Was just starting to look good for Sheffield, then he had the bad car accident and didnt seem to be quite the same player afterwards but still had a good career in the lower leagues.

Gordon Watson came to hartlepool after his bad injury and was out of this world. Best player pools have ever had in my opinion. Adam Boyd did his running and flash just smashed goals in from all over the pitch. Remember him being subbed after scoring two belters and him shouting to his mate in the crowd that he had won a good few quid betting on himself to get the first goal.

That League Cup Final in 1990 against Oldham. Half time, gone down to the toilet, queueing up and I notice this kid with a massive Cornetto type ice cream. Need one of those, after the toilet I go and queue for one. Get back upstairs, second half's kicked off, I struggle back to my seat. Just as I sit, Jemmo sticks it in the onion bag. As I go down, everybody else is coming up, my magnificent and hard earned Cornetto goes about three rows forward and four seats to the right. I was wounded. Great day though.
