Nigel Owens made his RBS 6 Nations refereeing debut in 2007 as England took on Italy. His excellent manner was evident from the start, his communication with the players and the TMO is brilliant. His openness with the players commands respect.
Good luck with the World Cup Final Nigel

Nigel's style is good for the game. He likes an open, continuous game with no bullshit in between. Not to mention his sense of humour is well received world wide. Refs should follow his lead.

This is a rugby video so why bring up football?
3 жыл бұрын
@@Leifr952 because the difference is a source of pride for rugby football fans all over the world. And also soccer is the most popular code of football in the world so bringing it up isn't exactly like bringing up something totally irrelevant

@ If the two sports are so closely related then why do rugby fans and players strive so hard to distance themselves from soccer? Also, it's fine to have pride in your sport, but sneering at and talking down to others is not the right way to promote rugby.
3 жыл бұрын
@@Leifr952 well its the way it has been promoted (by fans, not unions) for over 50 years. A 'gentlemen' s game like golf or polo. Soccer has a strong peasantry vibe. And I never said the sports were closely related. What does closely related even mean anyway? Very subjective. The best way to understand the relationship between the two is to know that rugby struggles to stay afloat every year and soccer thrives. For example rugby union took about 80% of the government's recent bailout for British sports. Soccer got nothing because it doesn't need it

@ "Peasantry vibe"?? Oh dear. You're not doing rugby's image of class snobbery any good with that comment. That's not the kind of "gentlemanly" conduct rugby aspires to.

03:51 "unplayable ball, nobody's fault". Err, actually Nigel it was your fault - for blowing too early and not giving the ball a reasonable chance to appear (and the game to continue as it should). Refs in general are way, way too quick to blow up when the ball would probably be appearing in a few seconds more - and, instead of play continuing,we have sometimes minutes of interminable scrum re-sets which, with a little more common sense, wouldn't be needed.

There is a time that any ref will allow a maul or ruck to carry on. This is the refs call and you, as a side line critic have to accept his/her call. The ref has to consider the flow of the game, injury danger, and the likely hood that the ball will quickly be cleared.
