I would love to see a video where you go to a little known destination/location you’ve heard a lot about but have never been to. And take us through the various steps you take to prepare for that trip including the type of research you do on weather, geography and show us where and how you get ideas for the shoot before your departure. Then take the trip and critique your planning. What you got right and what you got wrong.

Ok I want win that print. Before I hear complaints about Australia being at the end of the earth, NZ is further. Anyhow I really don't need to convince you and other English people what great destination Australia is and how welcome we would make you feel. We even speak English ( well sort of). I just finished a 6 day supported walk on the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia. In fact one of our guides was an amazing young English man. The colours, lighting, rugged ranges, white ghost gums, cool still waterways in deep chasms. Nigel you absolutely have to come to Australia. I can even recommend a very knowledgeable English guide.

I really like when you do details, like the grasses against the sky. Obviously the vistas are breathtaking, but your closeup/abstract stuff is really interesting, so I'd love to see more of that too.

I personally find these types of gear intros and reviews the most genuine and effective. What I mean by that is shooting subjects in real time and documenting the experience. As photographers we get so hung up with megapixels. I like the real acid test you presented in printing 2 images of the same scene and different cameras. As a long time D850 and a Z8 owner who also uses a Z6 full spectrum converted camera I have also found that I achieve acceptable print results with the Z6 if printed at the appropriate size. There is no question that D850 and Z8 files are necessary for large prints. As a person trying to get better with shooting video with my Z8 I'd like to see a future video shooting video. I realize its a photography channel but a little piece on video would I'm sure be interesting to a lot of your followers. I'm really enjoying your camper van series by the way. Thanks for this. Well done.

Nigel, I'd LOVE to see a video of you considering (ideally non-waterside) landscape photography for people with a disability affecting their mobility. We see so many involving a hike and a scramble! Alternatively young kids, or, amazingly, kids with mobility issues! It would take a bit of setting up but would be a fascinating alternative to "lone introvert scales Helvellyn with a Hasselblad"

I think that the Z6 III offers a nice balance of performance and video features and price (although I think many still wanted a $2k camera) but $2500 actually makes a lot of sense when you figure the Z8 for $3500-$4000, and the Zf for $2000 (and the Z6 II for $1600 "on sale" forever it seems). And while people are complaining about the DR and noise, I think Nikon was careful here to try to balance those out. Yes it has reduced DR and higher noise than the Zf/Z6 II but it also gains a big improvement in AF (over the Z6 II especially). I would say it's a well rounded camera to be honest that will (and seems like it is) appeal to wildlife photographers and vloggers. OK, landscape sooters and travel photographers probably not so much, and those people might just want to stick with the Zf or Z6 II and save some money since the AF tracking is not likely to be of much benefit to them, but for everyone else, I think the Z6 III is well rounded in terms of specs and performance. Of course it's not a Z8, but it's closer to the Z8 than it is the Zf. That being said, I'm sticking with my Zf (which is really a nice balance of AF performance and image quality, at the cost of video not being perhaps all the best, although it does 4k, but I also don't shoot video so it's pretty irrelevant anyway) and my Z8. The Z6 III as good as it seems to be, would just be redundant. But I would say for those who waited, it is a nice "pay off" for waiting too (I bought the Zf for the improved AF but also the retro style/dials, even though I could have just waited for the Z6 III to come out, but I sort of like the retro design, and it will probably save me money over the next few years being able to get the film experience, without the cost of film and processing).

Finally it’s out. I don’t like the price, love the camera. But I must say the price is so close to the Z8 that one might be the better option. Shot puffins in Norway with the Z6. That was not easy, this Z6iii looks more forgiving.

Oh how I now wish I could afford to upgrade my camera after watching your video. I currently have a Nikon D750 and would love to upgrade it to one of the Z series and this looks very tempting. Saying that, I ideally would love a Z8, but this camera looks like it should meet my needs. However, even if I trade in my D750 and the five lenses I have to go with it for a Z6III+14-30mm f4+ 24-200mm, I think I would be at least a £1K short of what I would need to cover it. My first priority is purchasing the remaining Kase Filters I need, if I have anything leftover from renewing my car insurance, that is. I have fond memories of visiting Bamburgh and I even had the pleasure of witnessing a fabulous sunrise too. In fact, the Northumberland Coastline is absolutely wonderful with so many great locations to visit and all within 15 miles of each other too! It's another place I really need to visit again, even if it's a good four and a half hour drive away from me. In the meantime, I really should be scouting my immediate locality for good locations, as my home county of Lincolnshire is well off the beaten track for well known landscape locations. I keep thinking there must be something of interest, but my biggest problem is knowing what are the best conditions on the ground for shooting each different type of location.

Good to see a new video...I would like to see how you would tackle the urban landscape as opposed to the natural...how would your approach change,or would you treat it the same as how you do the natural landscape, and how you would react out of your comfort zone.

I would love a video on how you find your location you want to shoot then go into some detail as to how and why you are choosing your settings to capture the amazing photos then the technique you use in your photo software to dial in the amazing shot to make it a bit more incredible next go into explaining the printer and how you print off the end result. So it’s basically a start to end how to video of your work flow. I’m interested in the production of the whole process. Thanks

Thanks Nigel (hope Nikon isn't watching), I fired up this video with trepidation & FOMO, but honestly I'm still happy with my Z7ii & just need better glass, still very informative video & I love how honest you are. So once the Van is finished the obvious thing do to for an epic adventure shot is to get on a plane, lol, and head out to New Zealand. We have it all here, glaciers, lakes, rivers, mountains, tussocks, rugged coast lines, aurora 10mins from my home, genuine dark skies & crazy bird life, like the massive 3m wide Royal Albatross 10 mins from my house also. Anyways, cracking vid & all the best with the van. Looks like the Z7ii is safe atm.

Your Puffin shots were awesome so my though for a future video would be: Z8 w/100-400 and finding some wildlife locally to shoot and giving us your opinion on that combo. Great video, I love my Z9 w/180-600, but have thought it would be nice to have something other than the Z6II as a backup.

Hi Nigel, i use the Z7 for landscape and macro. I´m quite satisfied with the camera except the autofocus (you mentioned it) and the burst rate. So i hope for a Z7 III but i suppose i will have to wait and wait and wait and .... The Z6 III is a great step forward and benefits from RED and their video abilities. You had been on the island which is ideal for photos of sea swallows. On the other island there are thousands of puffins and easy to photograph in flight. Astonishing the photos you took though on the second island there are only hundreds of puffins.

Honestly, we love the videos you produce, perhaps a video where you show beginners a multi use iso, best “kit” camera in terms of focal length, good basic shutter speeds and pic something like a sunrise / sunset and describe how you find the composition (what key things to look for). And I know shutter speed and iso are fluid but some starting points for new photographers are not something I’ve seen anyone talk about, apologies if u have and I’ve missed them

Thanks for the review Nice to see the rotating screen works on the L-Bracket. That was my greatest worry, that it would hit the edge of the bracket and not rotate due to the edge of the bracket, but it seems to be just fine. Idea for next video? The use of the (mentioned but unconfirmed) “starlight mode”? I know the Z8 has it. Several folks have mentioned the z6iii has it. But no one covered it (yet). Would be really helpful for nightscapes/astro landscapes Thanks for the review.

I think an interesting idea for a short video would be to explore outside your normal approach to photography. A long time ago, back in the late 50's, my father had been ranging far and wide across Mexico, photographing and engaging in his archaeological pursuits as a "Coyote" that of excavating and exporting Pre-Colombian artifacts to the U.S. When he'd get back into the city in order to re-set his photographic eye from wide vision, the vistas of landscape, to a more intimate way of seeing in the confines of a city, he did an exercise that I often do just to focus myself on seeing. This exercise is to do nothing to search for a photogenic destination, but to randomly pick and urban environment and then limit your range to say a square of 4 blocks or 2 up and 2 across and you can only shoot within the confines of that grid. Being that both my father and I were always photographers with a non-objective/abstract sense much of the time, he tended as do I still to often see minutiae in the world around us. When I've spent long periods in the Sierras or the high deserts out west and I return to a city, I will always do this exercise to re-set my seeing to a more intimate setting. That's my idea, and you can't search beforehand for the most photogenic area, but generally choose a commercial, residential, or industrial area and pick your 4 blocks and take us for a mini walkabout with a camera and see what you get. I'm always surprised that I can find quite stunning images in the most mundane of settings, at least one every time I do the exercise.

Cheers Nigel, it’s Sean in Atlanta! A Nikon camera cannot be all things to all people! I personally use a Z5 with a proper photography back screen. It’s the same with the Zf. Nikon touts the Zf as a photography camera but then puts a videography back screen on it, plus a MICRO SD card in it with the optional hand grip for $150 and only a single SD card slot??? So, instead of making the grip on the camera larger which would have provided two SD card slots and be much easier to hold, they arrange with Smallrig to come out with an additional cost hand grip… I have been a photographer for over seven years and I have never heard of any camera company on Planet Earth putting a micro SD card in a camera in the year 2023, or 2024! I think the Zf is a great looking camera which I will never purchase… Enough of my babbling! Thanks for sharing this video, Nigel! I hope your back is better. Sean

I've had the Zf for about 6 months now (amateur photographer) and I love it. Moved up from the D610 and Z6ii within a year and I'm very happy with the Zf - except for the ergonomics, which are terrible, even with a grip. The micro SD card doesn't matter to me as I use it only for back-up. Feature-wise, though, it's a dream to use and the images are fantastic. The Z6iii doesn't tempt me at all to trade in my Zf. Gorgeous location and shots Nigel!

Great review Nigel great work thank you, a much needed improvement over the old and limited Z6II, but Z6III its just too expensive right now especially for the everyday hobby enthusiast where 100% it would sit on shelf most of the time .Nikon is being very ambitious with the RRP price. This launch price point is a money grab and test, what they can get away with right now because of the hype around being a new camera. If you are a pro making a bit of money with your gear , you would most likely go for the better tech sensor with much faster read speeds with o rolling shutter the Z8 Z9 have. In my view this launch and high price Z6III is highlighting how much better value and good the Z8 is and is making a case for buying Z8 over Z6III now , as Z8 is being discounted in usa right now . Z6III still has a rolling shutter over 20fps electronic and no quick side select focus dedicated button we like on our dslrs and Z8 and Z9 . Z6III launch price is wrong and too close to the superior Z8 that's is on sale now in some parts of the world .

I was thinking about a special place which is quite awkward to shoot, in a tight space, with lots of visitors. How about St Nectan’s Glen, Cornwall, where the waterfall has an amazing wow factor. I recently went there myself, even though I’ve lived in Cornwall all my life! Worth the wait! It’s an enchanting place indeed, bit of a challenge to get a really great shot of the magical waterfall, top to bottom, getting the ideal light perfect, and without people in the shot, and to get the whole of the spectacular waterfall in. I’ve enjoyed seeing your great images, in today’s video from yet another beautiful place, thanks for sharing, Nigel.

Thanks for your review of the Z6iii. As a Nikon user for many years I feel rather disappointed and disillusioned with Nikon. I have the original Z6 and as an enthusiastic amateur I have a wide range of photography interests including macro and bird photography and I was really hoping for a few more megapixels so there was more opportunity to crop in. The z6ii was not a sufficient improvement on the original. I’d love a Z8 for its functionality but as I age I really don’t wish to carry that weight around. I’m not really interested in video which the new z6 seems to excel in but all I really want is a really good stills camera but it’s lacking. Don’t know where to go as there does not seem much on the horizons from Nickon which is frustrating as I have a load of glass.

Ni Nigel, for video ideas, how about a challenge Nigel series... Where people give you map coordinates, you have to plan and execute a shoot within say 0.5mile of the location, where you choose the time and date of the shoot. You may want to introduce some other controls, like; it has to be on land; it can't be in the middle of a city; and maybe, you have to be able to drive to it in your Campervan!

Makes a really great budget kit and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the low noise, sharpness and how 24MP really does not seem to matter. Nice to see Nikon catch up with most other manufacturers with the screen flip mechanism! If photography was my main hobby and if I was better at it, I could see myself moving to the Z6 III. Thank you. As usual, a great presentation. I do have a question. First some background. The Nikon Z lenses do not have a focusing window readout on the lens barrel (feet and meters). I looked at the Zf and its viewfinder does have a slider that runs across the bottom. But, it does not tell you the actual focus point in feet. Now, for my question. Does the Z6iii viewfinder display the actual focus point in feet? This may seem like nit picking, but if your trying to set the hyperfocal distance for landscape or street shooting, this kind of readout is important. Many thanks.

Loved your puffins. Is there a way for you to show us in a video the difference in the brightness of the EVF and Autofocus for the new Z6iii??

Great video, just wondering what’s going on with the focussing when shooting handheld video around minute 11-12.

Great video as usual and with a new camera, well done. I would like to see a video of one of your workshops, from planning to watching how the day(s) pan out, comparing their shots to yours, and what your students think of the experience.

Brilliant video. Great Review. Love Bamburgh castle. At least you has less people in you images than I did when I was there. Lovely images 👌. Farn island is a place I need to go as never been. Fantastic shots of the Turns and puffing to say your not into wildlife. 👍🏻 New video idea is out wildlife photography with me. 😆

Great video Nigel ! For a “pure” landscape photographer you really were rocking those Hi Key Tern pics …love it 😍Not sure the 6 will replace my ZF which I love but some of the features are tempting ! Best ….Art

Nigel I was thinking of a subject for another video … considering how pixel shift is now being added to all new Nikon bodies ( except z9 perhaps with firmware update ) I think I video on practical usage may be helpful . When I first saw it on my Z f I thought “ wow that’s cool “ but practically haven’t found a good use for it … there may be some landscapes without movement that it could be useful for 🤷‍♂️inquiring minds may want to know 🤔😳

Very impressed with this camera which I have just bought but with the 600mm pf lens as I did not want to have to use the adapter needed for the 500 pf which added quite a bit of weight. Your puffin photos are impressive and I would like to know what lens your were using.

Nigel! Is that the 3LeggedThing L-Bracket that fit the 6ii and 7ii? I held on to mine in hopes it would fit the 6iii.

Ideas for future videos: You've done single focal length challenges but have you done one with a super wide angle lens? Or, since you've done so many videos/topics, perhaps a shift to highlighting certain locations, either in the UK or elsewhere (doesn't have to be as in depth as the Luskentyre series)?

The z6 III is a nice camera but I prefer my z8. I don’t like the flippy screen as it doesn’t allow you to properly use an L Bracket. I am going to be holding off to see if there will be Z7 III and if it will have a Z8 style screen instead of a flippy screen for selfies.

I'm glad you mentioned the temperature... I really wanted to ask if it ever gets to be summer in the UK! LOL Then again, I'm in the deep south US where we're currently doing good to get below 21C at night (and it'll get even warmer before October).

I've been tossing up whether to get a Z8 for Antarctica in 2026 and keep my Z6ii as a backup. Having watched your video, I'm really tempted to just upgrade to the Z6iii. I'm really glad you did a comparison of the two. I'm curious, is the L-plate for the Z6iii the same as the one for the Z6ii/Z7ii?

Great first view of the Z6! Makes me think a bit. Ideas for videos…have you ever looked as someone proudly shows you a photo shot from a car? Now, be safe, but what could a top flight photographer do with road photos? I’d like to see.

Nigel, your video already so informative and some learning tips from your often explaining your techniques of the compositions and especially you alway showed the print out the actual shot that amazed me how good is the real shot on prints of different cameras. As for the print I really like it both Z8 and Z6 III comparison. For future video, if you could add some basic editing video if the shot over exposed or under exposed suitations as not to disrupt your current video style too much.

I realize you had limited time with the new Z6III but would you consider it as a backup camera? When I am out shooting pictures I normally find myself shooting abstracts, urbanscapes, and the occasional street photography. Yes I might try sunrises and sunsets, flowers and woodland photos but not always since my success rate is low. Every now and then you talk about using filters. Some photographers use the screw-in while others use glass plate filters. So a video explaining how and why you decide to use filters but also all the little pieces in gear required for filtering. Since everyone’s budget is different perhaps explaining where a person can start and where you can lead too and your elevate your photography. If you have given up on filtering then explain why and how the camera and lens is enough.

I would really love to see a video where you show us your process while you are going through it as opposed to telling the story afterwards. So starting at the point where you decide to take a photo all the way to finished composition. It might be a struggle but it will be a good look into your mind. Great video, really thinking about the Z6iii now hmmm.

I much prefer the screen design in the Fuji XT5, articulated 90 degrees up or down and able to fold on the vertical axis for low-level shots. Those selfie screens, with their single-point pivot, worry me. Beautiful video, mate. The light was awesome.
