What a great show. Dan was my favorite for sure. It was one of those shows that got it's legs a few seasons in and ran til (close) to the end. I would stay up to watch it and Cheers as a young teen on late night syndication after the 11 o'clock news. Good times. Thumbs up for Phil!

At around this time everybody realized that Dan was the "breakout" role on the show. I remember laughing hysterically at this scene where the Dummy talks and it takes Dan a few seconds to realize how unreal it all is!

More than that, he takes a moment to confirm that the guy is gone, waits a few seconds THEN gets it.

Yup, definitely. Larroquette was at the start of his four-year Emmy streak for this role. This would've been the season he won his second. This was also about the time when the show began it's surreal, almost cartoon-ish humor. The show didn't care how absurd a punchline or a situation was. All it wanted to do was make you laugh like hell and it really did.

@@FomorViceroy i have the 1st season on dvd harry anderson say's he wasn't comfortable being the "star" the lead he gladly let larroquette be the one that made everyone laugh their tuckus off .

@@MojoPup He was the sitcom version of JR Ewing from Dallas. He was written as the "bad guy", but played him as a protagonist that the audience could outwardly despise, but deep Down we would root for.

The funniest part of this episode is when the duumy throws himself off the ledge in front of the ventriloquist!🤣🤣🤣

The voice of the dummy sounds like George of Otto and George the ventriloquist act. Hilarious, dark humor. Miss you Otto

Oh, the pranks one can do with remote control. I can picture the Ventriloquist going around the corner and asking "Is he gone?" while making the mouth move remotely.

It's 35 years later, and I still laugh at this clip and most of the funny moments in the show. I know a lot of it didn't age well,, particularly some of the things Dan said and did, but it's still funny as hell. The show gives me such warm nostalgia.

The things Dan said and did stayed just as funny. A lot of people have forgotten what humour is, and how to laugh.
@kryer981 Жыл бұрын
@@nicomeklrowing5935 You'll notice in the "reboot" there have been no hookers, flashers or raunchy humor. That's where a lot of the humor in the original series came from and why there's not as much humor in the reboot.

Dan referenced this dummy on one of the new episodes of Night Court. He told Judge Abby Stone that a dummy committed suicide by jumping out of the window of Harry's office.
