I watched this movie admittingly way later than I should. Such a wonderful film.

Always thought it was funny that one of the most genuinely heartbreaking endings in all of cinema was in a low budget zombie film.

Love to see it. Please finish the Dead trilogy(Dawn of the Dead 1978 and Day of the Dead 1985). I think the thing I love about zombie films, especially Romero films is that there is a lot of subtext to the zombies depending on the situations they are put in like the invasion of communism or consumerism. Day of the Dead seems to be the most cynical of the trilogy, because it feels as though the zombies are the heroes of the story and Romero actively wants the audience to root for the zombies instead of the survivors because he feels humanity is at a loss and not worth saving.

Great review and agree on all accounts. I previously gave this a 5 star rating on Letterboxd after watching the Criterion release of this film. Speaking of which, still need to upgrade from the Blu-ray to the 4K!

It's not a movie about racial prejudice, It's a movie about violence. For some people, shooting someone different or shooting a monster is the same, for me that's the strongest point, the important racial part being a part of it
