Night Photography - Looking at four photographers

THIS VIDEO: Photographing at night isn’t new - Alfred Steeglitz was doing it over 100 years ago and Todd Hido is doing it today. Night photography produces challenges that are not present while working during the day - but it also offers up opportunities for creating otherworldly images because of the artificial light source. Photography is dependent on the camera which allows one only three options for adjusting the light falling on the sensor or film surface - to increase the light we can increase shutter speeds, open up apertures and to a limited extent - adjust asa or in the case of analogue - vary the film speed. I look at George Brassai, Magnum photographer Patrick Zachmann, Gregory Halpern and Vlad Tretiak.

I hadn't come across the Russian photographer Vlad Tre---------- (sorry, no Idea how to spell the name, and auto transcript is useless, it might be an idea to reference photographers on the timeline or notes). What always impresses me, and puts me to shame, is the extra effort required by night photographers. I'm aware that I will always carry the least amount of equipment with me to get a shot, and the commitment made by other photographers to craft an image is amazing.
