@@BreukelenNY if you're VP, you no longer speak or act for yourself. The job of the VP is to be the mouth piece and arm of the president. You are probably the first advisor of the president but that's it. So she has no say on Gaza. If you quit out start a third party, you are ending your career or at the very least starting from scratch. What good is that going to do Gaza. Given the miniscule chance Harris would do anything good for Gaza, she will only be able to do that if she becomes president and she doesn't become president in 90 days by making more enemies. She is a black woman on the brink of the presidency. She didn't get this far without knowing the game and walking that fine line.
@macaron31415926532 ай бұрын
Kamala Harris had been trying to push Biden on the right direction on this, but is limited by her position, her desire to maintain her power and now, to maintain the structure of support that Biden had before he dropped out of the race. If she split early and became a third party, she would split the non-trump vote and trump would certainly win, and would make everything even worse. At best, she'll announce a genuine policy change on Israel later in the campaign and at worse, she won't but there will be avenues of pressure that can be applied. The issue is that the two party system is so strong that it absolutely informs who is getting the vote and who's running. Without parties, our entire political system would be so different that any scenario you conjure up would be different from our current situation.

From a strategic perspective, I believe withholding votes would galvanize more people and place more pressure on the democratic party. Not voting is just as much of a political statement as voting. Instead of leveraging votes that ultimately will be casted, leverage potential votes that are not guaranteed. This prevents the lesser of two evil narratives from being effective it is also very easy for your constituency to carry out the punishment.

It was interesting to hear a different strategy on building leftist/progressive alternative to the Democratic party. When it comes to the Presidential Election and all the rhetoric, it's basically a lot of terrible options. Yeah lesser of two evils is a terrible choice, but no one bangin' the drums for Jill Stein has been able to make a convincing case that it isn't just another terrible choice rooted in obtuse idealism. Personally I don't try to tell people how to vote and think most of the arguments people make telling other people how they should vote are consistently dogmatic and fail to acknowledge the reality that we're dealing with a broken system with only bad choices. I appreciated that this guest acknowledged all that and presented a genuine strategy for building an alternative that is very clear that inadvertently tipping the country and world towards accelerationism and extremist authoritarian fascism is something that should be taken seriously. I'll need to look more into the WFP strategies but this guest certainly inspired me to do so. Appreciate his insight and appreciate Marc for having him on.
