The greatest benefit I use most often for night sights is actually being able to see (find) your beside gun sitting on a night stand as you sleep and you look up to find it with a bump in the night. The glow of the sights definitely bring peace of mind, versus blindly moving your hand or arm all over the place trying to locate it.

Night sights are very useful for identifying where your gun is on your nightstand. I think the most important thing you can put on your gun is a reliable weapon light. Night sights help you see the sights but they don’t help with target identification. That’s what the light is for. Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it. If a person doesn’t have enough light available to see their target, why are they shooting at anything? If you haven’t properly identified the target, you shouldn’t be sending rounds down range. Lots of people have accidentally killed family members. They thought those family members were intruders when in reality they were just getting a midnight snack from the fridge. Put a light on the gun so you can identify what you’re shooting at before you start popping off rounds. When I hear a lot of the old timers and 1911 owners who say you never need a light on your gun for anything, I know they haven’t thought anything through. They’re an accident waiting to happen.

This is an excellent video filled with sound logic and genuinely useful information for anyone that carries a weapon. Well done! Was a peace officer for 28 years. 13 years in patrol. And worked much of it at night. Carried a 4" S&W Mod 28. Of the three shootings I was involved in during my career, two were at night. Sights were about invisible, but I trained heavily on point shooting. Well, I'm still here so we know that training was effective. Flash forward many years. Now long since retired, and in my 70's, I underwent cataract surgery in both eyes last year. My distance vision is great. So's my night vision. However, close in, I can barely see sights unless they're very visible to begin with. I now carry a S&W Shield 9mm or a 642. The Shield had Truglo TFO sights on it when I got it. They're highly visible both day and night. A wonderful sighting system, especially for farsighted old folks. With the 642 snubnose revolver, I can't use the rear sight even in the day. Its a vague blur. Thus I elevate the front sight a tiny bit and concentrate on the target. At night, that old point shooting training kicks in. One must always seek the best solution for their individual needs. And as always, proper training and consistent practice will carry you through an incident, if confronted with one. Thank you for a great channel. Your dedication and total presence of professionalism are very obvious.

For me it's more of a "nice to have" than "need to have" kind of thing. I think it's a good idea to at least have it with your front sight (but preferably both obviously) just in case you need it. However in civilian defensive shootings even when they take place at night they typically take place at close range so you can probably get away with not having them most of the time. If you carry a gun professionally (law enforcment, security, etc) then you should have them on your duty pistol. But that's another topic

As a retired federal law enforcement officer and firearms intructor, I'm partial to Trijicon night sights. And for some reason they seem to be the best night sights I've ever used. And I changed the sights on my ar9 carbine for Trijicon night sights.

You can't go wrong with Trijicon series HDs for most guns. Some like the newer XR line but I don't like the thin front post. If you choose to use HDs, make sure the gunsmith or armorer installs them properly. I had my orange HD front dot slip off, M&P .40 2.0 model 😟.

Personally I am not out at night very often. The fiber optic sights are great in daylight and decent ambient light. So most instances are within a very short distance. That first shot I can make without a good sight picture. Hope I will never have to find out. Good bright front sight is a plus.

I have Trijicon HD, Truglo TFX, XS Big Dot on several of my pistols. On my Glock 26 I kept the factory sights, because I really pick up that big white front dot well at my indoor pistol range. I had recently decided to put Trijicon HD Night Sights on the Glock 26, and keep it on my nightstand. You just saved me some money, because I did your test with my flashlight, at night. As soon as I turned on the flashlight that Glock big white factory dot, lit up just as good as all my night sights. In some ways I could see it better, as that is a Hugh white dot.

I have the Trijicon HD XR’s on my Glock 30 and they’re awesome. When I eventually get that G36, the factories will last for one trip to the range then straight to the gunsmith for some HD XR’s.

The Ameriglo option is worth every penny when ordering a Gen5 Glock . You save about $30 doing that way opposed to doing it after the fact. Great review. Also your correct about sight pusher . Don't cheap out but buy one $100 - 150 range of quality made for your gun . I got a cheap $35 one that looks like a square with hardware bolts and aluminum sight pusher that I had to modify with cardboard to protect my slide from damage . Great advice.

Only real problrm with stock glock sights is you have to cut front dot in ⅔ by rear sight to shoot straight. Night sight is nice to have. If do not see your target, you should not shoot. If you can see and identify your target, you will be able see plain sights.

I thought only my G43X sights are like that. If I put the ball in the bucket the front sight is a little up and the shots hit 5-7cm high at 10m amd even more at 15m. Now I just align the top of the front and back sight and it's good but a little slower. I think I'll file 1mm from inside the backsight so that I could see the whole front dot in the bucket. What do you think?

Are night sights necessary? No. But they do give you an advantage when shooting in low light or totally dark conditions. I personally like to use Heinie sights. They offer fiber optic, tritium, & even gold bead sights. But they use a two dot sight system like the I-dot sights. With one dot on the rear sight below the u notch. And what I really like about Heinie sights is the front sight post is thinner like a target sight. So it’s easier to get on target at any distance. But at the end of the day you have to find what works for you & your firearms. What works for me might not work for you & vice versa.

I've used carry, duty, Army service with guns since the late 1980s. Would I suggest steel night sights? Yes. ✔️ Would I say they are a requirement or needed? No. You can learn to properly shoot with traditional gun sights but steel, well made 3 dot or tritium style help you in low light, night situations. I like HD Trijicon series orange sights. I have them on Glock models & my M&P 2.0 .40.

I have mixed feelings about night sights. Having participated in many night fire exercises in the military, I wonder if the muzzle flash quickly renders night sights useless in a real-world application? It really can be quite blinding, like quickly turning a light on and off in a dark room.

if it is too dark to identify your threat then you should not shoot anyway. If you use a weapon light especially indoors night sights are useless as they will be blacked out by a bright weapon light. it will look like blacked out target sights. HOWEVER if you have GREEN fiber optic front sight it will pick up light reflection from weapon light so you can see that. The biggest reason I like some night sights is they can have a luminescent ring around the tritium insert that makes it better to see during the day.

Do you really think so? Do you think in a real world scenario, with adrenaline pumping the average civilian target acquisition is contingent on a sight alignment or are the Majority like %90 plus percent are point & shoot scenarios?

Night sights, laser, flashlight attachment, and red/green dot optic gives you a tactical advantage in a dark room or outdoors at night. To say having at least one of them is not a NEED is not putting yourself in the best case scenario for any self defense scenario as most times they come upon you unexpectedly. Be prepared to the best of your ability at all times. You may not get a second chance.

I'm an avowed Glock fanboy, but I can't stand their stock sights. Yes, they do work and I can make them work, but I just don't like them. It isn't because they are polymer but because the sight picture kind of sucks... I find three dot sights or a blacked out rear to be much more accurate and much easier to acquire than the "ball in a bucket" that stock Glocks use. Tru-Glo's have been my go to (though I find I don't like their TFO's as much as The Concealed Carry Channel does), but I have started using more Ameriglo sights lately and recently experimented with an XS big dot sight
