For our son with ASD , consistent routine has been crucial. 30 min before bed time , calm activities, TV or tablet usually to winds him down. Same time every night we do 2 min than 1 min and then time for " wash wash". After shower streight to bed , he is usually out quickly. We do " fun activities " between 5-7 pm ( trampoline, swimming, bike riding, car ride) and bed time is 9 pm sharp, he sleeps in complete dark room. It took us couple of years to come up with it after many many sleepless nights but it works . Thank you for sharing and I love reading the comments, we are all learning from each other ❤️

I see Ezra likes going out the front door instead of the back. What a beautiful view of mountains from your backyard. Ezra needed a little break from the trampoline. Poor Simon he didn’t want to stop playing on it. Well when I would stay the night at my cousin Trey’s house we would talk about anything until he fall asleep. I can’t wait to have him over at my place once I able to afford one of my own. 😊😊😊

It looks like Ezra's safety bed is working out really well for him. Nice to see that. My son often needs food before bed also, especially if he hasn't eaten dinner very well. My son is an adult now. He likes to sit on his bed in his room and listen to music on a cd player near his bed. We have special lights for him, and we diffuse frankincense essential oil which smells really calming. Even with his door wide open, he is really good about staying in his room. When he is tired, he lies down. After he is asleep, I come make sure his covers are well situated and turn everything off. I bought him a special weighted blanket recently that is really helpful. It is not a solid fabric, but rather, it is an open weave. This is really helpful because he pulls his blanket over his head at night, and with other blankets, I was always concerned he might not be getting enough oxygen. The blanket is found on Amazon and is called "Nuzzle knitted weighted blanket". I highly recommend it if you have a child who pulls covers over the head and/or who would benefit from weight. Years of practice and similar routine have helped him do so well at bedtime. I like your evening routine. It looks like the boys do well with it.

My youngest son who looks to be on the spectrum ‘zones out’ or monologues when I’m trying to get him ready for bed or say prayers. Sometimes it’s quite a feat to get his attention long enough to say prayers. I love how you’re saying it’s your unique normal. I love my son with his funny quirks, and the family does too. Now we’re just trying to navigate this new ‘diagnosis’. Hoping to help him be his best, happiest self, and help others to see the wonderful kid he is. He is verbal, but delayed in potty training, ABCs. I’d love to pick your brains about whether or not the official diagnosis is important if I’m homeschooling. He’s screened for a special ed preschool, but some of the therapy at home would be great (if it was a good therapist) or would it be better to just read up on ABA myself? I’d had him on the list to be screened in August, but then backed out and USU (near where I live) has a 2 year wait list. I’ve just been unsure if the official screening is worth it. If it just tells me he’s on the spectrum, I think we have enough indicators to know that. Thoughts?
@7Aheadfamily
@7Aheadfamily 10 ай бұрын
Sounds like your little guy is in good hands. ❤️ As his parent, you will always care of the most, and probably do the best in terms of therapy, and helping him progress, but it can be very beneficial to have another set of eyes and more ideas for helping you strategize the best way to help him. Also, it’s kind of a full-time job, at least in our case, so it is really nice to get the diagnosis so that you can then qualify for some in-home ABA help to give you a break as well if that is desired. The diagnosis simply opens up more doors for more help options. Maybe you guys don’t need it, but we have sure appreciated the extra help on our end, and that only comes with a diagnosis.

As a father of two boys (Michael, oldest and Alexander, youngest) both on the autism spectrum. My wife and I had the youngest actually referred to a psychologist for assessment at the age of 9 years to confirm the paediatrician's diagnosis and to modify Alex's medications he was on. The psychologists recommended due to his age being taken off Ritalin and put on to Strattera. The change in meds improved his attention while at school and home. Bed for Alex was also a fun time between father and son, Alex would actually start getting himself into his "Good Nights" pullups and pyjamas around 8pm, get himself a snack to eat in front of the TV with me while winding down with VeggieTales cartoons which he adored and actually worn out 2 sets of VHS tapes I purchased from Crossroads. As 9PM came, I would make sure his teeth were brushed, and he was toileted, pop him one Melatonin into his mouth making sure he swallowed it and then when he was asleep, would carry him off to my bed. Easier than putting him into his own super comfy, egg crate foam mattress topped bed, and then hearing tiny feet padding down the hall to my room and a 90 pounder crawling under the covers at midnight between me and my wife. I'm sure you can relate to the midnight visits from Ezra or Simon.

That does sound familiar. When we lived in an RV while we were traveling with all the kids, visiting the national parks, Simon would get in bed with us all the time. He would get sad, and I didn’t want him to cry and wake everyone up, so I would get up and have him join me and Adam. Sometimes it made for a long night, but he loves to snuggle and still does. -Holly

When I was little, I always hated going to bed before nightfall. I mean, I didn't like going to bed anyways, but a bedtime before dark added insult to injury. It still weirds me out to see kids sent to bed so early, especially given that I'm such a confirmed night owl, with a preference for jobs working later shifts and for bedtimes I could only have dreamed of as a kid.

I mean I'm talking to a lot of them because we want to meet up this only a few. Like talk to and this one. I wanted to talk so bad but hes but it's very busy right now. And you know I talked to it. I talked to a lot of my old friends yeah we got it so they've changed so am I? They told me what you go through. It's kind of like what I go through my kids but they're all done. But yeah kids are older than mine they're all. They're all all of the mine that my 3 youngest. I was 17 when I was a father. I had no idea what I was doing but I wanted to be just like everyone else. They told me all you special needs you shouldn't have kids. They told me your kids are gonna have problems but my kids are fine they're smarter than I am

@@7Aheadfamily I found social studies videos for kids. I know that it's very easy and the gonna watch it with them. I'm gonna do that during the summer I wanted to but social studies that was the only that's when I really liked school. I'll tell you one thing like grown up in decent special needs classes to resource rooms. There was so many kids friends have died. I've lost contact with but I've been trying to reach him and talk to him with a lot of them. Move back to where they used to live cause they liked that it liked whe way they lived and there's some kids I wanna talk to so bad. But it's like I don't even know the names now. You know it's just a lot of girls you know what? What's your name's now cause? I got along with everyone in high school I just. I want to say a lot but you you disagree with what I go through when I was a kid cause. I watched old videos last week of all. You've done to human manitarian pretty cool and I'm also trying to be gluten free. It's very hard for me because everything's qualified and that's one thing I could not in this colleague flower. I try it but I can't eat it it gives me. I've never liked to lick broccoli yeah? I try so hard to keep my kids healthy cause I'm diabetic and it's oak. You know I'm not on insulin. I don't have to take any pills right now. I had to take my blood pressure all the time I had to wear a monitor on my try to hug you know like. Tell them you can't eat much. Candy you don't wanna be like your can eat? What he want to eat so I cook. I want I've watched so many videos but there was a few recipes like with the curry I'm gonna try you made

You know I just met a friend who talked to a friend and told me. He has a 17 year old autistic son. I'm sorry I told him. I asked him how was it you know when he was grown up because I met him? And he says he wants to come over but he don't wanna do stuff every often because hes actually graduating this year from high school he said. He's very smart but he had a lot of trouble but didn't even graduate. Cause hes smart kidding he wants to work. You. Know? He was always. On? Track. They said but he didn't have his problems and but you are so think I got that wrong. I think hes 18 I said something like this. I thought that's when I met among you? You're 17 so yes this is a lot of my friends who are autistic that I went to school with and they never thought I was at test. They thought I was just had a behavior problem and it's like I have twins who are autistic and one of them was really hard to figure out. And I just told him I want him tested and they said because with Bravo and I told him. I've been tested that they told me my files have been tested twice when he was a little kid and I was mad when I heard that I decided. For God he told me that. And it's like in the fifties but he ended up plynn football for downsell. He said he didn't want to play up here because he didn't want to play in the snow because you get hurt in the snow you can't play. Very much but cause he was injured you didn't graduate college thoughe said school is very tough for me. You know hes patted a lot and skipped school out but he did go to school a lot because he wanted to pass and call the school play football. Danny plays softball for the longest time. He doesn't know he always on intern tournaments when I was a little kid. You know I couldn't even play Lily cause. I was in the same drop district that I played baseball because I could hit I know how to play baseball I played with everyone growing up they said they. Can't believe how how do I get to ball. I used to hit it up the middle and take the picture out because I couldn't snag it

Yeah I had a wild one but you'd like a lot of the stories but some of the stories I tell you you be. Like wow that's like I can't even see a thing I have to get my eye done.
