I sometimes do steel wool photography, so my list of non-traditional gear can consist of the wool (duh), a wire whisk, a few bottles of water if a source isn't near by, and a fire extinguisher. I also plan those in areas not at much risk of starting a fire in the first place.

Always a good plan! No one likes it when a photographer burns a place down. You are more than prepared!

Yeah, that would be a good call. We've had far too many of these calamities due ot careless steel wool photographers. At any rate, we are always encountering people who bring fascinating things that aren't specifically photography gear-related. Another person brings this sort of warmer that plugs into his cigarette lighter and heats things like chili and soup. Great on a cold night.

@@KenLeePhotography that reminds me of my days trucking cross country, and having various cooking devices that plug into a 12V outlet in the truck. I'm still trucking, but local now and still almost no time to go on photo shoots. XD

And if you can get some white cardboard, you can use it to bounce light off of, for a nice soft kind of lighting effect.

Great tip! Thanks for sharing that!

Yes, that works quite well. A trick that I do sometimes is to bounce light off my shirt or my hand, which obviously can give it a color but can work quite effectively.

If I go a bit far outside the city, I bring a first aid kit
