If only I had this sound font my cadences will sound better

VDL is $200. It's a great investment if you want better playback not just for drumline but for front ensemble and other types of percussion ensembles. Wouldn't recommend buying it if you're just planning to write nothing but cadences though.

I know I’m a little late, but I’ve been trying to get my director to let us play this since it came out! I play tenors

I have vdl, how do you get so much snare response in the playback, is it at original tuning?
@DanielMakesCadences Жыл бұрын
I layer another snare drum over it and mix it to my taste

do you put effects on the audio? how do i make the vdl sound like that?
@DanielMakesCadences2 жыл бұрын
I do a lot to change the sound of my drums. For snares, I add in one of the other non-marching snare drums and pitch it up to give the snares more wetness. I am still experimenting with it tho, as this video and others posted around this time have snares that are too wet imo. I also remove some of the low end to help bring out the high frequencies. For tenors, I literally just tune each of the "drums" by having a module thing loaded up for each sample. I got this idea from Eric Peel Music who also used this to tune his bass drums. For my bass drums, I use the above method as well as putting an EQ on each of the drums. I am also still experimenting with this. Cymbals are kept as is.

Hey just curious, how did you get VDL to work with Musescore?
@DanielMakesCadences4 жыл бұрын
Paul Sprague There's a tutorial somewhere in the forums. It says it's outdated but it should work. The JACK method will not work until 3.5 though. And the included xml file in there is broken. Message me on MuseScore and I can provide a fix for that
