Yeah! We were so happy at least one of our gliders decided to fly away from us! As short as they are from nose to tail, it’s really hard to get them flying straight! 😀

Great flights guys, amazing you were able to keep it in shot, I have been struggling with some of my recent videos. Using the hat camera (action camera) is fine for hands free but it is wide angle so as soon as the glider has flown any distance it is tiny.

Yeah, folks on mobile devices might still have hard time seeing it. I’m pleased with my iPhone quality and zoom ability. It helps when you have an extra hand, too, to do the camera work.

Excellent flight. I suggest a neon paint for better visual tracking. Also, try parachute guy. See how far he glides under his chute canopy.

How beautiful! How absolutely elegant! Brad's "Sandpiper 3" - take 3 put a lump in my throat. It's been decades since I've modeled with balsa. I need to try it again - now, at age 65. Thank you so much for this lovely video. It warmed my heart. Best wishes.

Really glad to see I m not the only one with this idea, that was some impressive flight distance for such a small glider. I 've been messing around with some of those big 4 foot foam gliders, a micro action cam and a mini gps tracker strapped to them tossing off cliffs and such. Always seem to have the same problem of it wanting to drift right though, fun stuff either way. Ultimate goal is to launch off the top of a really high Nevada peak if I can ever get it fine tuned.
@NighthawkGliders5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, amazing if you think about it. We got extremely lucky! Bruce tossed 3 gliders away. He struggled to get it flying straight. I tossed this same glider 3 times before getting it to work. The first 2 flight could have easily been lost!!! Nick Uhas recently made a big “paper airplane” style glider, also, and had great results- kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZS7kJavhM17r7c

WLtoys "brick" are about 11-12 dollars, about 25x25 mm square, has receiver (binds to older FlySky protocol), 2 micro servos and ESC all integrated, pretty nice for ultra light small stuff, good flight time from 150mah 1S also. if it's a power assisted glider, might stay aloft and controlled 15+ minutes if really conservative with throttle/power.
@NighthawkGliders6 жыл бұрын
Ok. Good to know. Thanks.
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
know you guys are all about the non powered free flight more than anything, and it's big challenges... but.. there's some awfully cool balsa micro RC plane kits at BangGood (17" span or less) those little bricks are about perfect for without going to a more expensive actuator/controller set ups. if you do have a Flysky 4 channel tx, be sure to go with the older version WLtoys bricks, the newer that have gyro sensing aren't the same protocol. definitely fun to play with for building a larger indoor very slow flyer too.

Me and my friends are trying to set a world record for mousetrap powered vehicles ( we are school kids) is there a way to 1 get these gliders to go straight and 2 launch them from something other than a rubber band such a a winch kinda thing. Thanks for the help
@NighthawkGliders6 жыл бұрын
Cool! Good luck on your mousetrap car world record! Yes, gliders can be made to go straight, but it is very challenging, especially outdoors. Just a minor offset in design or any wind at all can make it turn very easily. The gliders in this video are only 12 in long (nose to tail). To make it more reliably straight, a longer glider would be better. You can use other means to convert potential energy into kinetic energy to launch a glider. Springs, gravity, rockets, etc. However, rubber bands are probably the cheapest and easiest method! 😀
