Mini Splits on Commercial Roof tops usually have this issue. They aren't meant to be on top of the roof. Lighting strikes Electrical Surges doesn't take much to get the CPU fried. Need some type of Surge protection to slow the electrical issues. Put an AMP Fuse so It pops the fuse and the board.

Shade
@KuntalGhosh Жыл бұрын
That is not a cpu. That is called ipm. Basically the huge chip that is screwed onto the heatsink. Contains a full bridge 3 phase igbt set and control circuitry with protections and other sensors. This is the part that makes the 3 phase ac at variable frequency to control compressor speed and cooling power. I have 5 panasonic inverter mini splits and they are working fine since 2017 , not a single issue on one of them. They run 12 hours a day in Indian summer heat. Today it was 44c and it has been above 40 for this whole month touching 45 sometimes. None of these inverters have issues with the heat. You just keep them in shade and oversize the units. I have 1200sq ft floor space and installed capacity of 7tons. It uses 2 3 tons of capacity when the set temperature is reached. This puts lot less strain on the inverter. And i will never go back to those non inverters.

if the electronics break often it's usually indication of high voltage Spike like thunderstrike that has been close by before you need surge protector plug on it

I’m dealing with this exact problem currently. Any more issues from this unit after this video?
@NighthawkHVAC Жыл бұрын
It’s still going.
@chrislester3152 Жыл бұрын
So that might help in the future to make sure that none of these inverter mini splits are put on twin breaker because it will cause a compressor over current protection code and probably burn one up if not fixed after a while

You might want to put a Koolguard 2 on that system. It's a voltage monitoring surge protector.

I think you will be back for same problem,this is a compressor winding problem.

As soon as I saw the back of the board @ 5:11 I knew it was because of the thermal paste not being installed properly. I warn guys all the time about the importance of it.

The suction pressure looks too high isn't? Is the system over charge which is causing the high compressor over current protection?
@NighthawkHVAC2 жыл бұрын
This system has a variable compressor and charge can’t be determined by pressures as they may look high or low. The only way to check the charge is to weigh the charge. This units charge was to factory specifications.
@haochen62472 жыл бұрын
@@NighthawkHVAC I agree that inverter unit is best to weight in refrigerant. However, as alternative, you can also have all the indoor unit run at the max cooling mode, and charge it based on the gauge reading to around 125. There got to be reason for repeated blown circuit board. The mini split come with pre-charged refrigerant up to certain length and also have requirement for minimum total pipe length. For what I have seem with many Fujitsu and other brand that I have fixed, in cooling mode, when compressor is running, it never get this high suction pressure. while when the compressor is not running, it could get above 200 psi. I would suggest if all choice is out, check if the system is overcharged.

Always keep air conditioners in under shed. Make tiny sheeds around them . Putting them under direct sunlight not only increase your electricity bill it also puts lot more strain on the inverter parts. These do not like to run hotter than 70c internally. You don't need too much paste . The thing that you need to do is to properly clean both the heatsink and the ipm chip with tissue and isopropyl to remove any oil residue and old crusty paste. Then install fresh thermal paste and spread it with the supplied spoon that comes with lots of pc thermal paste. And you can use pc thermal paste those are lot better than these thermal grease. They aren't much more expensive and you can get the 30gram tubes of noctua h1 or h2 and that would last you 60 installations.

Those power pc boards can be a bear to change.You gotta take everything apart. And make sure you don't miss any wires because you're going to be tearing it back off and putting the thermal paste back on it a second time.Ask me how I know this😂

Ok but what causes 2 boards to burn?
@NighthawkHVAC Жыл бұрын
First one was a surge. 2nd one the previous tech did not use thermal paste and did not secure the board to the heat sink properly.
