Its important to know WHAT substance they want to mine. Even 3 miles away, tailings & airborne waste could be just as harmful as the extensive groundwater extraction. I'm not confident that the way we monitor mining operations has kept pace with modern environmental standards. If jobs are at stake, there might a temptation to turn a blind eye if something slips.

To be fair when you look at the sun you feel the burn and have incentive to look away. During a solar eclipse the intensity is reduced but the damage is still being done. Just a few years ago, people flew for a vacation or to visit relatives; now they fly for a weekend getaway or to see a concert. They have disposable income and don't bother to save money. Credit card debt is sky high and nobody wants to open a savings account for 0.1% interest.

Licensed Security Guard here. Ima tell you right now, nobody wants to be a security guard. We’re just doing it to keep the bills paid. Security isn’t taken lightly at bars and clubs so if you can’t handle it, don’t go out. Same if you have a job that has stationed guards at post. Please appreciate your fellow guardians for taking time out their day to make sure you are safe. This includes taking a nap. We do doubles, triples & split shifts. We get tired, and we overwatch a lot. We aren’t asking for a whole lot, just some appreciation.

They could've done more in depth reporting I guess, but it's not like earthquakes can't happen in the Northeast US. It's just not common, that's all. The Ramapo fault line runs near where the epicenter of the earthquake occurred. Interesting facts: There are at least 5 smaller fault lines under the island of Manhattan and even some more potentially unmapped ones. That whole region has many older faults that may be reactivated at any time.

According to the Chief of Police, his Officers should be applauded for quickly stepping in to deescalate the situation. Situation, customer shot and killed a Security Officer. 2 Police stepped in to deescalate resulting in 6 innocent bystanders and 1 Police Officer being Shot. Thank Goodness there were not 3 or more Officers present to assist in that De-escalation!
