The whole “being a mother is priceless” thing is also interesting because there was a study done where they calculated everything a stay at home mom does (caregiver, cook, maid, driver, etc) and how much it would cost to hire a person for each job and what that work was worth, and it came out to over $100,000 dollars I believe. So stay at home moms should actually be making a real good wage for the amount of work they do every day!!

@@unicorn73212 It's obviously far from that amount, but in Germany parents do get paid by the government for up to 14 months for staying home and taking care of their child. Unfortunately it's 67% of your average salary over the last 12 months, so that's a pretty harsh cut for lower- and even average income families. Mothers also get credit towards their statutory pension, but again not enough to keep them from old-age poverty.

The “What Happened To Men?” image is doubly strange because not only is it a pic of Cillian Murphy who is a man who exists in the literal present & is only dressed up for the context of the show he is acting in, the pic is of his character from Peaky Blinders who is explicitly a crime boss. The dude fundamentally outs himself as a person with a completely juvenile mindset that dapper dress = masculinity/quality of character. Men can dress the exact same way as Murphy in that picture & still be vile toxic scumbags. And thank you for pointing out how the “male ideal” these traditionalists worship is not only ahistoric but extremely Eurocentric as well. Leave Britain & America & you have cultures where men wear tunics & kilts & agbadas & kaftans & kimonos/yutakas etc. Fedoras, ties & fitted 2-3 piece suits aren’t the pinnacle of formal or informal fashion, not just in the US but worldwide.

26:22 The complaint about architecture should raise alarmbells in everyone. 1st Most of traditional architecture was literally built by sl@ve labor from poor working class people and ultimately it was the church and later large corporation that would end up owning everything. 2nd The reason why modern architecture is so bland and boring is a consequence of capitalism's need for nearly unlimited scaleability (affordable due to usage of poor and cheap materials) combined with (rather misanthropical) concepts like hostile architecture also based on capitalism and it's need for archaic, hierarchical structuring of society dividing the haves from the have-nots. It is also the reason most of us can't even afford our own homes anymore, because whatever our ancesters bought with what's left of their first two years of paychecks is now worth millions of dollars / pounds / euros or whatever else of a currency your country uses.
@theeskrungly
@theeskrungly 3 ай бұрын
I sat through a lecture about the history of architecture once and you get an appreciation for modern architecture when you sit through it. The main thing about the discourse isn't just an architectural thing either: it's a discussion that persists throughout the art world: it's about functionality vs design and there is pros and cons for both sides. Too much focus on design can make something impractical, too much focus on functionality can lead to mass production, therefore poorer quality, etc. For me, I think both need to co-xist or balance either other out.

Yes!! All the ugly tall buildings are because we needed large apartments for people to live in so they could live right next to the big factories, and then we needed more apartments for people to work at those apartments and factories, and then a whole lot of desk jobs came to be, and it just became a vicious cycle.

@07Flash11MRC Also I doubt every building is history was made to look brilliant or stand the test of time like they are trying to claim. There were probably hundreds of houses for the poor (especially during the industrial revolution) which they also made quickly, without much cost of effort and that would also say 'you are replaceable'. On the other hand there are also buildings today (some of which are churches just like the pictures) that are also defiantly made to look brilliant, stand the test of time and last a long time in the future. I wonder if in the future someone will be showing pictures of a megachurch and a superbowl as 'the past' and showing pictures of houses for the poor as 'their present' and going 'see back in the past building were built with care, they were built to last.' Like the post is just so stupid.

So many women had to explain that Travis Kelce is very successful in his field and is famous, but he is not famous outside of the Football space and it would be almost impossible for him to make as much money as her. They abandoned this line when it became obvious he was not going to play out their weird fantasy of "fixing" her as left leaning. They now keep trying to attack his masculinity, which is hard because he is a football player and they have sold that as masculine for decades.

The town I grew up in...it's tiny more like a village had 5 or 6 churches. Two of them were so close that you could walk across the street and there it was. And another one was oh.. 5 2 minute walk from the previous mentioned churches. This is a very small town!

The fact that kiwi said that taylor is going to be the more successful person no matter who she dates and then does not recognize her bf travis kelce (the cheifs captain) in the next post further proves her point (also i think this account has something against taylor and ppl related to her lol) Also the pitcure of travis is taken after he won the superbowl, so i dont understand that this account thinks that its "not masculine", cuz its literally the most traditionaly masculine thing men can do right now

Here’s a quote that gets to the heart of why men REALLY want trad wives and why they can’t stand women who refuse to be one: “Signs you're dealing with a man-child: He may not say it, but he believes a relationship is about his needs being centered. He likes you as much as you're willing to center him & give him the love & support he doesn't know how to give himself. The more you assert your own needs, the more distant, defensive, & mean he'll become.” - Robin Clark

in the modern architecture bit, its funny to think that the fourth modern building is the Centro Cultural FIESP, a cultural center in the most famous avenue of São Paulo, Brasil, and its instantly recognizable because of its distinctive shape! And the activities there are free, so its really stupid to say architecture is bad because it doesnt look magestic nowadays, when this regular building may be serving the population way better than a giant church

And the third is Nakagin Capsule Tower, which unfortunately doesn't exist any more (as of last year). The idea was pretty cool, it was prefab box apartments connected to a central pillar with the plan that you could swap out the capsules as needed. Unfortunately they somewhat messed up the execution and you'd have had to dismantle the entire tower down to the capsule you'd want to swap, so that never happened. But it was a pretty cool idea, imagine moving and you can just take your personal capsule(s) with you to the new place.

Big cathedrals and palaces made to look like old, traditional ones do exist. The Basilica of Our Lady of Licheń in Poland built between late 90s and early 00s, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Ivory Coast built in the mid-80s and the Istana Nurul Iman royal palace in Brunei built in the early 1980s are exactly the thing he thinks don't exist. They are expensive to build though, like 500 million to several billion US dollars if we go by the prices of the buildings I listed with inflation adjustment.

19:40 there's a lot of factors to this, poland has a biger population density (100 more people per km2 than the us), is heavily catholic and the people living there had 1000+ years to build all those churches. Also many of the churches don't even have masses regurally because there's not enough priests

Pewdiepie is swedish so I doubt he is conservative and have super traditional gender roles, that would be really surprising. Don't think his wife is either. In Sweden we generally don't have stay at home moms that much, but we have long paternity leaves that is supposed to be shared between the parents . I know they don't leave here but I think it still effect how he was raised an see things.

21:02 funnily enough, i did the maths and found out that Czechia (small country bordering poland) has an even better Churches/McDonalds ratio than the US (around 30.17/1, depending on the number of churches mentioned in different sources, this one is the lowest). Out of 10.5 million inhabitants, only 13% affiliate themselves with any religion. We are notorious for being one of the most non-believing countries. Really idk what they meant to prove…

Re: parents getting practically no paid leave in the US: I had a teacher who's fiance unexpectedly gave birth (and by unexpected I mean they literally didn't know she was pregnant until she was in the hospital going into labor). He was gone for less than two weeks before he had to come back. He was tired all the time and experiencing brain fog from all the stress. He got a day off here and there but he should've had a lot more to help his wife and the baby amidst the chaos.

Person from Poland here🙋🏻 we have McDonald's here everywhere (at least in the part of the country I live in). Also we might have churches but I think no American conservative would survive here more than a week cuz sure a lot of people here are in fact conservative but we mostly are extremely depressed and pessimistic. The weather is shit 90% of the time, the prices are surprisingly high despite what some may think, people are rarely smiling in public cuz we're all sad and besides people here hate Americans or just foreigners in general. Just don't come here, there's a reason why 1/3 of the Polish population lives abroad lol

I have chronic migraines and can’t be on disability or be employed (hell scape indeed) so I live with my parents and help them as a job. Because of that I was able to be a nanny for her children. Even if the option for extended maternity leave is there, there are still risks to your career. A dentist my sister knows had the ability to take a year off from her job to raise her child but now she has to get her license again because she’s gone a year without practicing. It’s really screwing her over. The US just doesn’t have a parent-friendly working environment. Hell it doesn’t have a people-friendly working environment.

The whole architecture part had me shaking my head. Those traditional buildings were built with a purpose same as buildings today are. The purpose has changed and so the style has changed. This doesn't make one style worse than the other in fact there are many beautiful modern style buildings after all "Architecture is just art we live in." -Jacob Stone, The Librarians. Modern architecture came about after WW1 when people need functionality and practicality to rebuild cities it involves clean and abstract lines and shapes, open floorplans, and large all glass windows. Comparing something like the Fallingwater House to Florence Cathedral is like comparing apples and oranges yes they're both fruit but they serve different needs. Some more modern and post modern architecture examples that are just as beautiful as classical: The Heydar Aliyev Centre, The Metropol Parasol, The Guggenheim Museum, The Sydney Opera House, and The Bosjes Chapel
