Leaving nothing but childish spite and contempt for those who wanted to study or understand his art and ruin the magic? I mean he was all about those religious overtones then you have all this ugly science and man made authoritarian stuff in the last clip. I think Polyester Homes is right, the ending seems like a way to hint that we failed and Eric is dead. Sam Deercot always seemed to have a lively sense of humor, so it seems fitting for him to punish the viewers by making them watch a bad cliche horror video. And perhaps what he meant by "come back to haunt you" was Eric facing his doom due to his affair and assistance in the murder of the Director?

Based on this video, this series seems to be a masterpiece, and one that should be watched and not forgotten. It not only preceded modern horror web series and alternate reality stories, but in my opinion seriously surpasses them in its use of storytelling. As for the ending, to me that video made sense to the context of Sam's character; he wasn't just a serial killer, he was an artist, a prankster. The joke here was that what was promised to be a satisfying answer wasn't satisfying, it was just cliched and not seemingly related to the storyline the series was revolving around. This wouldn't be too bad if there was an actual pay off to the story, but we didn't get that and I doubt we'll ever get that. With that being side, the theorist in me does propose one thing about the ending: What if the video was FROM the independent horror film that Eric was cast in? That's why it was so similar to cliche horror films, because it was a cliche horror film.

I was thinking the same thing as your theory. The fact that the film only had elements related to the Eric's kidnapping, and it reveled in many early found-footage cliches and flaws that the other parts of this series meticulously tried to avoid (people filming everything with no real reason to, very staged cinematography and lighting and such), makes me thing that maybe the intent was that Sam only got the inspiration to do the whole human pet thing and as well as making a public spectacle of his videos from that movie as a cruel joke on Eric. Of-course since it didn't continue from then we will never know unless the creator comes out and talks about it.

@aswertyuiol5 жыл бұрын
the closest excuse I can think of for that clichéd final moment is that we've seen all along that sam is extremely dramatic (the santa outfit, going to extreme lengths for show) so it could be that he's always been that dramatic. still, a huge flaw in that theory is that I'm pretty sure the associated tropes weren't tropes yet in '86
@nathankish34256 жыл бұрын
An idea regarding the suddenness of the broken ending; it seems to be a growing fad of independent directors to leave movies open ended, not to leave room for a sequel, but to force the viewer to decide the ending. I hate this practice. They claim it as artistic and that the audience doesn't want to be spoon fed an ending. Poor argument. Leaving the end open doesn't satisfy the audience, it is simply a very lazy method of ending a movie with minimal effort.

Nathan Kish Righ? Though, I remember horror films of the early 2000's had endings like this.
@nathankish34256 жыл бұрын
Eduardo Espinosa Yes, but if you notice mainstream movies moved away from that pattern. Independent movie makers tend to be artsy (the autistic side of artistic) and try to push something that failed in the mainstream to be a fad in the indie scene.

@ no no, I'm talking about the movies that leave it totally open, where even the details are left incomplete. It's an unfortunate fad among "artistic" movie makers. Movies that leave the end open but give you all the details are in another category.

I mean, I think the ending makes sense. Sorta. I've only watched this video, none of the originals, but it kinda makes sense for this serial killer - one who has tried misleading his audience before - to put together some fake reveal about his past to further cover his tracks. All the better of it's some cliché evil child, as if he's mocking us or maybe even delusional about his own motives. Maybe. I'm not an expert on this.
They can sense the video coming, and break the laws of reality to be able to comment. Or, they’re just patreons. Yeah, I think the latter is false.

What a sad end to a wonderful series. I was disappointed at the way it ended - especially with the choice to shoot the doctor’s car ride in 1986 that unavoidably showed modern vehicles on the street, a sign of gross lack of effort from a series that was just the opposite. Ironic indeed. It seems like he had to quit doing THP and took the quickest out possible to a terrible result.

Great work, Nick, as always. I've got most of the stuff on the back wall. The portraits on the right relate to the Big Three Slenderman series. Starting on the left: The Opeprator Symbol, which originated in Marble Hornets. The Everyman Hybrid Logo, from... well, EverymanHYBRID. And the Rune of Severence, from TribeTwelve. On the shelf on the left, there are a number of objects relating to non-Slenderman series. On the far left, there's Mikey the Microphone, from Nick's video on Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. Second from the left, there's a Bloody Webcam, the symbol of CamDrome. In the middle is a figure of Boomy the Cat from This House Has People In It, by WhamCity comedy (I wasn't able to get this one on my own, though-for some reason I thought it was purple. The folks over on the patreon discord were able help set me straight on that, though!) Second from the right, is the symbol of the SCP Foundation, relating to Nick's SCP Vault Halloween videos. On the far right is the character of Elon from CatGhost. If any of them interest you, it isn't too hard to find the videos on Nicks channel. For the Slenderman stuff, go to his playlists and hit Control-F (Command+F on Mac), then type the name of the series. Nick's set up a "Shared Story" playlist for EverymanHYBRID and TribeTwelve, which crossed over with each other at a couple points, and at least nominally share a setting-this is in addition to the standard playlists, which contains Nick's coverage of each series separately. Be aware, the series themselves are long, and Nick's videos are as well. I was able to set aside a weekend when I first found Night Mind, but you might have to take them one at a time, or even hold them off until later. And whenever you watch them, bring some snacks. For the material he covered in single videos, just go to the Videos page, hit Control+F (Command+F on Mac), and enter the name of the material he covered. If it doesn't find anything, scroll to the bottom of the page, and use Control+F (or Command+F) again. If you're interested in his CamDrome videos, be aware: he has three-links to the first two are in the Description of the most recent, though, so you won't have to go digging for long. And if you want to watch the materials he covered, that won't be hard at all: just look them up on KZbin! They're all here!... Well, two caveats: Marble Hornets heavily involved video responses, a feature which KZbin no longer supports. But don't worry! This playlist has all the videos in the correct viewing order: kzbin.info/aero/PLCACDEE1E71FC8E5E This House Has People In It is an utterly massive puzzle box. It just doesn't stop-but that's part of the fun! Look up the starting video here on KZbin, and see if you can figure it out. If not, then don't worry about it; it's pretty well hidden. Nick has it all laid out in his video on the material.

Bleach is an old-school method of water purification. Used it back in the day while camping and it seems to work; much more convenient than boiling, even if the bleach factor makes most only use it as last resort. It's a few drops per gallon, making measurement tough for small amounts.

@CGoody5646 жыл бұрын
Kevin B more convenient than boiling? Maybe. However, proper home purification involves both bringing the water to a boil as well as adding a very small amount of bleach (dependent on the concentration of bleach and how much water you are attempting to purify) to the water to maintain it during storage. Neither should be used on their own if it is being stored.

A possible explanation for the evil child thing: Remember the whole evil cult leader thing on the alternate channel? Remember how he warned us from the very begining that he was lying?... Well this is a video that, in it's very title, tells you it will "take you to hell." And as you've pointed out, that's exactly what it kinda did if you were interested in the actual story. Now. What better way to end a channel controlled by a psycho that in a way is actively seeking to harm the audience, at least intellectually, than said psycho using the most cliche'd explanation no audience member would possibly accept. What better way, for Sam Deercot, to get the last laugh on us all. It's the rick roll of horror alternate reality games, the ultimate "fuck you I'm in charge here." Sam Deercot, quite simply, won.

Thank you for covering this series. I participated in the original story as it was being posted, and it was such a wonderful bit of story telling. A lot of us had the same frustration when the game just kind of dissolved on this video. In addition to the Find Eric Taylor site, there we several other areas other than KZbin where we were seeing trailheads. I'm not sure we found everything we were supposed to - Sam Deercot really dug deep. On the original profile, the creator mentioned that he was working on a treatment for a television pitch, but never updated anyone about it. I'm very hopeful that he's getting work.
