I think the reason why your method of completely repainting the groundwork black/dark brown and then highlighting later looks so good, is that it unifies the groundwork with the model. You paint the model the exact same way -- dark first, then building up lighter colours on top -- so everything looks like it belongs in the scene as the visual style is all the same :)

I'm a Railroader, so I don't look at dirt all day long. So I'm asking you as a dirt connoisseur, sommelier and expert. Doesn't water creep up like that? Or does it look unnatural to you? Does it depends on where the lake is located geographically?
@outcastmodels4932
@outcastmodels4932 Жыл бұрын
@@SteamCheese1 really good question! I’ve only ever seen it when the water level dropped for whatever reason. I’m sure some riverbanks have water creeping up on them, but I can’t recall seeing that myself. But I’ve seen it at dammed lakes where the water level can be controlled. It only lasts for a few hours though-after that the soils appear to become dry. Like I said, I’m sure somewhere in the world there’s a riverbank that’s proving me wrong lol
@SteamCheese1
@SteamCheese1 Жыл бұрын
@@outcastmodels4932 Thanks for your response man! Yeah I went to our local pond to look at it and you're right. On the surface it looks dry and doesn't really creep up. Only like 2 to 5 millimeters. But under the surface if you just dig a few centimeters, the dirt feels moist and is a bit darker. So my guess is that on the surface the rate of evaporation is too fast to stay moist. So it looks dry.
@ZiddersRooFurry
@ZiddersRooFurry Жыл бұрын
@@SteamCheese1 It really depends on the weather. I used to live where it was really humid and sometimes the dirt and sand around the waters edge would remain moist after it rained or after the water was disturbed, etc. It never was for long. Maybe this tank was recently submerged.

I think the bubbles and distorted area of the water added some more realism to the model. There's lots of gasses trapped under soil. When thet gets disturbed (By driving a tank into it as an example) you will get all these bubbles rising to the surface. But i understand that it wouldnt look as good as it should at these smaller scales. Love the model!

When sanding a large surface on a sheet of sandpaper, move the component in a "Figure 8" pattern. This will removed the "High" points quicker and also help keep the component level on the paper and reduce any slope/angle that might occur when reciprocal sanding.

Hello Martin. I’ve seen your videos over the past couple of years, as I research model painting, customizing, and diorama building. I’m a 1:18 scale customizer…and I’m studying techniques and tricks from youtubers like yourself. Thank you for putting out excellent videos and I love your narration…you instruct and keep us interested at the same time. Your resin work is outstanding and motivating. I’ve only used resin twice, and the second time I made the mistake of using NOT deep pour resin and the layers below were leaking out as the top layers were curing. I was so stressed out I just threw the whole project away. Watching your videos has taught me a lot…and I’m motivated to try resin again in my hobby work. Keep up the good work. Hello from Guam 🇬🇺

That’s a great diorama, I love it. If I can give you some feedback from working with the real thing, it’s that wire recovery ropes don’t bend easily. Heck they often won’t bend at all, unless it’s awkward, in which case they’ll bend in an awkward but graceful arc to wherever you don’t want them. They’re very springy, and the bend radius would be around the same as the curve on panther, tiger or cromwell/comet wheel for a sense of scale, unless you’re really applying a lot of pressure. keep up the good work!

Loving these quick small projects from you. It's fun to get the whole project in one video. I wonder if there is any way to get the resin water to have less surface tension; at this scale it tends to creep up the sides of objects such as the turret and river bank. Thin resin would be difficult to contain without spilling, but maybe finishing the surface with an extremely thin layer of a very runny form of resin would help hide this phenomenon without requiring the whole base to be complexly watertight.

This is wonderful work, Martin! How are able to paint watch hands in 1/35th scale? Such steady hands. Speaking of color, I would like to see you replicate the spectral effects of petrol floating on the surface of still water. This could be either lying on top of water puddles on a street or road, or petrol that rises up from a submerged vehicle in deep water. This is not easy I think because several factors affect the color on real life. I hope you consider this a challenge and show us your interpretation someday.

Hello Uncle. I really enjoy your work, and think it's all excellent. For some unknown reason I find this one especially pleasing. I think it's the river bank and the simplicity of the scene. Keep up the good work 👍🙂
