I’m an OTR truck driver, & no matter where I’m at in the whole U.S. A that sound is a soothing comforting, nostalgic sound of my home back in Pennsylvania I reminisce listening to that...

Absolutely evocative video: the night, the crickets, the horn in the distance. Scary but also reassuring somehow.

I used to hear sounds just like these growing up with Conrail during the 90's in NJ. Miss ya Big Blue. You always were the best.

That’s the most common train horn you hear at night IMO. I used to hear these all the time as a kid coming through the CSX yard in GA.

Railfanning at night is a ton of fun! Highly recommend. Whenever a train approaches and passes, it gives you an adrenaline rush. Go check out some “in the dark” videos over at m.kzbin.info/door/QLaFsZxGxdx6GOc3mgWMXg

This reminded me of an old VHS tape I have called "Into the 90's: From Dusk to Dawn." Not sure if it is available on DVD, but it is a fantastic video with tips on how to capture video at night using available light from street lights, station platforms etc. One of the advantages of railfanning at night or in the early morning is that noise from cars and other things is not nearly as bad as during the day. Nice video.

Thanks Joe, I like recording here at night because of what you mentioned above- there's tons of light and barely any road traffic after 8 PM. On a different note the MEC heritage engine came in on EDPL on Wednesday and because of a derailment in Berlin they are set back a few days so the engines should be in Plainville this weekend.

Joe That's why I railfan the R&N PIFF job more than the PISB, because you don't have the the large amount of cars.

Sounds a lot like Penn Central EMD SW1 #8599 (Buckeye Central Scenic Railroad, Zanesville and Western Scenic Railroad), U.S. Air Force MRS-1 #2104 (Pacific Southwest Railway Museum) and our C&O EMD GP7 #5833 (Hocking Valley Scenic Railway). I believe this horn is a Leslie RS5T-RRO type.

First thing: I like how you enhanced the audio at the beginning. Fact is that is the method paranormal investigators use. And second: is the lead locomotive in RailAmerica paint or is it just me?
