Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, agility, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). It is apparent when listening to her sing that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet.

@veronica b I'll try to keep a long story short. The past few years my life revolved around work, being on a plane for work, and a sociopath running the country. I had traded music for podcasts. I was slowly turning into this joyless, angry person grinding through my days in Chicago instead of embracing all of the amazing artistry this city offers like I had always done before. Somehow, I stumbled across this as a non-avid YT user. It's everything I ever wanted to hear in a song and see in performance. So, I dove into the rabbit hole and the words "It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead" from Last Ride of the Day hit me like a ton of bricks. It sparked that joy of discovery. Tuomas is a musical genius that marries these masterful compositions with powerful, poignant, and poetic lyrics that really connect with me. You don't just listen to a song Floor sings. You feel a song that Floor sings. In my 38 years on this planet, no vocalist has ever done what that woman does to my insides. The rest of the boys are world class musicians that bring these masterpieces to life. It's a opened this whole Pandora's box of European metal music which is apparently my thing, I've changed career paths to something that matters and makes me happy instead of just being on a never ending money quest. This one silly YT video helped me find me again, and I'm happier, healthier, and thankful for it.

@@BritPopsReact this Wacken show is one of 2 pivotal events since Floor joined up in 2012, I have been to a great many live concerts/shows,too many to list, and this Wacken 2013 from a YT video is possibly the best I have ever seen, the 2nd pivotal is Beste Zangers 2019 -a Dutch tv show - on YT, this very unique format where Floor was only known by 2 of the other singers on the show ,but none of them had ever heard this Metal front woman sing the various styles she employed and with the start of the show opener Vilja Lied she blew everyones mind, after the show concluded it's 7 day run Floor's and NW's popularity doubled literally overnight .

So you just experienced more Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen) she is Nightwish 3rd female vocalist. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career as (initially) just as background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997 but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer. Is this real live? If you’ll have any doubts watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKKno36lj5tlrbM the evolution of Ghost Love Score. Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label.

"Not now" - you could consider getting an adblocker - anyway, great reaction guys. Nightwish is a unit, no prima donna here, everybody gets time to shine - Emppu, the guitarist is all about the music, he is very talented, but won't shred for ages, he just gives what the music needs, no more, no less, in GLS he simply repeats what Floor has been singing, and he's the joker of the band (if you continue the journey you'll see that) but also the guy going around making sure everybody is fine - Floor is in my view the best and most versatile female singer of our time - as I wrote in my previous comment, she can sing anything in any style, and she is the born storyteller. Marko is leaving the band, but we all hope he'll find his path back to happiness and hope he comes back to Nightwish - in any case, we wish him well and thanks him for all he's given us.

I wanted to watch the documentary "Please Learn the setlist in 48hrs" as I know it's going to be very interesting. At the same time, I don't want to spoil any of the upcoming reactions, so we will just let the journey progess and unfold with each song.

@@BritPopsReact You should seriously learn the KZbin keyboard shorcuts so that you can back up to the start of any section you interrupt to comment. j goes back 10s, ← goes back 5s, spacebar to pause or continue, → forward 5s, l forward 10s. Forward or back can be used multiple times if necessary to get to the start of the passage. Good to know you have found Nightwish,, and geetings from Cambs.

@Phil Lee OK, fair comment, but here we go. We are 150 miles apart doing the reactions over zoom into OBS. The "Tube" locks up and slows down, so we downloaded the video which works great, However, the keyboard shortcuts don't work. We can try using the play bar, but moving that back a little soon gets tricky and messy. We have heard from other comments, that we don't actually need to pause it at all, so that's a bonus. Finally, we have been working on some add-in's that may fix the issue too. We will make it work somehow.,

Every Nightwish song is different, but all the music has that Nightwish key. Every song is a musical adventure for the band and the crowd that they make together. Floor is the best female metal singer ever, and here voice together with Marco are soul-related, both voices are unique. For me is Nightwish the best live performance band ever, and you can feel the harmony between all the bandmembers, Tuomas, Emppu, Kai, Marco, Troy, Floor, they are all excellent musicians, and you can feel the harmony between the bandmembers when they are playing. Still hoping that Marco will come back, because he belongs to Nightwish, and the world will miss an excellent musician.

Another great non Finnish band member is Troy Donockley (born 30 May 1964) he is British, composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes (uilleann = (old) Irish for elbow). Unlike the Scottish bagpipe, the Irish variety is not mouth-inflated, but the air is pumped in through a bellows powered by the elbow while the pipes are held on your lap, making it possible for Troy to play and sing at the same time. Hé has performed with Nightwish since 2007 as permanent guest musician at studio albums and live on stage, but joined as a full-time member at the same day as Floor Jansen in 2013. Other instruments: tin whistle, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone. Other great concerts examples are: - End of an Era 2005 - Tampere, Finland 2015 - Wembley Arena, London 2015 - Buenos Aires, Argentina 2018

Production team around the band has been about the same for years and IMHO you can see the result of long journey together in the live event/recording quality. During the covid-19 the NW crew published their own album (containing NW songs) under the name "Crewfish". Yes, NW is not only a band. They called themselves a Vehicle of Spirit and gave that name also for their Wembley live album.

The Brit, Troy Donockley is from Cumbria. he is not on this song. He was a guest musician on this show. Shortly after he was made a full member of Nightwish. He is featured in 2 songs on this Wacken 2013 show. You will see him soon if you keep moving forward on this journey. Your comment on "Pirates of the Caribbean" is very appropriate. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and main composer is a big fan of movie soundtracks and Hans Zimmer is one of his favorites. There is a power and magic to Nightwish compositions. Each song is unique in its own way. Ther are several epic live performances from Nightwish. Wacken 2013, Wembley arena 2015, Tampere, Finland 2015, and the most recent one is Buenos Aires 2018. You will see many performances from these shows if you continue. There is one song that is even more massive and over 20 minutes long. Loved your reaction my British friends. If "Storytime" is next, here is a little hint at the meaning of the song. This one is more of a straight ahead rocker with a few unexpected twists. Tuomas writes his lyrics in a very poetic style using loads of imagery and metaphors to communicate the message of the songs. You will find a common theme in many songs, including "Storytime" of reminiscing and longing to recapture the lost innocence of youth. He loves the act of storytelling and the fantasy imagination of childhood. Hanging on to your childlike innocence is a very difficult thing to do in the realities we encounter on our journey through real life. See you very soon. I think it is time for a little story. It is definitely Storytime! 🙏🙏🙏👍

This is the first masterpiece of the band (they are three). This song belongs to the first singer era: The era of Tarja Turunen, who has an operatic style and was with the band until 2005. The second masterpiece belongs to the second singer era: Anette Olzon, a heavy poppy singer, who left the band in 2012, about 10 months before this show. The name of the song: "The poet and the pendulum", a figurative self-killing work of the songwriter. And the third masterpiece is "The greatest show on Earth", a song that belongs to the Floor Jansen era, who you know now, our valkyrie goddess. By the way, the three songs were magnified in their live version by Floor Jansen.

A little performance detail I'm sure was calculated. When Floor comes on stage the first time, she has a hand extended and pulls it to her, like she's gathering strength, the second time she pushes her hand out towards the audience with a forceful gesture like, thanks, here. . Also, listen for very low volume cymbal hisses, they usually mean something is going to be very LOUD

All the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish is written by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a running soundtrack pre-recorded at Angel Studios, London. This orchestra is featuring on every album NW released since ‘Once’ (except the last one Human :|: Nature which is performed by Blue Dot Orchestra). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTbm36iisidjtE The background choir you frequently hear are the Metro Voices, a choir group also based in London. At some songs a boys soprano performed: Guy Elliott, 2nd boy soprano: Tom Williams, courtesy of the Reigate St Mary's Choir School. Child choir: Young Musicians London.

Usually the joyrney starts from this song, and after few individual song reactions you'll end up doing reactions of whole concerts :) GLS is one of the big 3, the 2 others being Greatest show on earth and Poet and the pendulum. But the thing with NW is they are very versatile, they have these massive opuses, they have lighter pieces (but still kind of heavy, poppy songs, ballads, folky songs, jazz influenced, instrumentals...) But you really can't go wrong with any of them. They have also changed after founded in the 90's, but still clearly identifiable as NW. Storytime is a fun slightly lighter song, after which you can taste some older songs/recent version from Buenos Aires 2018 concert. Like Dead boys Poem, Devil & the deep dark ocean, 10th man down. As you get more familiar with the band you will also find about the "controversy" with the previous vocalists. Especially the circumstances original vocalist left the band influenced NW and Tuomas especially. The information becomes evident when you listen to The poet and the pendulum. I also ask you to pay maybe more than usual attention to the lyrics, which in case of NW are often not easy to interpret, but thoroughly thought out by the main composer/songwriter Tuomas Holopainen. Also get used to reacting emotionally to their songs, especially songs Floor sings, she has a way to push the emotion buttons. BTW, you don't _have_ to pause (most) the songs, majority of the NW songs are not blocked even if you don't pause at all.

@@BritPopsReact about the pausing, I just mentioned it because some people think there's a rule that you have to pause every 2 minutes or it gets blocked. It depends on the rights holder, and almost the only NW song I ever heard was blocked has been the poet and the pendulum. And not even that more recently I think. But you can (and should) pause if there's something to comment on, that 's why most of us follow these reactions, we are interested in other peoples opinions etc. Anyway, you were nice listen to and the calm, non shouting way is more my style of reacting.

First time hearing you lads from England and seeing one of your reactions. I was born and partially raised in England. I'm now a Southern California foot soldier for the Nightwish Army. Glad to see you beginning your Nightwish journey. You have a wonderful and long journey ahead of you with many twists and turns ahead. Some viewers may suggest you react to "Greatest Show on Earth" or "Poet and the Pendulum" but those are heavy hitters. Despite the requests for you to react I would suggest you follow Gabriel's lead and build up to those classics. Resist the temptation to jump in and you'll get more from it when you are a little more versed in the world of Nightwish music. Floor's voice will touch your soul, but the rest to f the band is so well put together and the music is comprised to sometimes smack you in the face and sometimes peel back to be just as effective. The Army will be along for the collective journey with you. I love your screen setup bar the way. Nice touch with the extra crowd cheering in the front. Keep up the good work gents.

They now are probably my favourite band of all time and I've seen most in the last 40 years or so. Troy Donockley plays all pipes and guitar, tin whistles and backing vocals, but he doesn't feature in this song. I can see you chaps are very enthusiastic in your quest - may I make a suggestion - Babymetal also changed my life too but I got to see them just before Covid ( the last gig I went to) at Hammersmith! @@BritPopsReact not really, because as I said before, I've been around the rock/heavy rock/metal scenes for years and even though I might have heard their name in passing, I never bothered checking them out. There's a reactor called 'Tank the tech' who deals mostly with instrument and pyrotechnics information - he now has come to the conclusion that NW are now his favourite band - he's been brought to tears a couple of times too as have many other reactors I follow. I just love seeing their expressions when they hear NW for the first time. So, as you can imagine - I've heard Ghost Love Score hundreds of times - and I never tire of it - God's honest truth!! A guy of 78 reacted to one of my comments on another channel telling me how they've totally enriched his life too!! Sorry for the repetition, but I must reiterate that you should give the Japanese bands the once-over 😉 Babymetal , Bandmaid and Lovebites - the latter two being all female band members.
