Imho opinion this is the best performance of Floor on this song. So full of emotion and her posture is so solemn. This song is about the total solar eclipse on August 11, 1999. A German radiostation asked Tuomas to write a 3 minutes song for them, to broadcast it but, knowing Tuomas and knowing that he doesn't like to write songs on a commisioned base (is this the right expression?), he did it anyway but he made the song longer than those 3 min😅The "222 days of light" refer to the time from Jan 1st to August 11. I fully understand why this very emotional performance of Floor, hits people ( including my self). As someone already said, the song was as close to an order from their German record company back in 1999 - it was surposed to be a radio hit, and therefore only 3 - 4 minutes max. Tuomas couldn't avoid writing the song - but of course he made longer than 4 minutes. It also is on of the best examples on how a genius songwriter he is - and how an incredible performer Floor are. Give her a song like this - and she will spellbind all 24.000 in the audience. I know it's about the total Solar Eclipse in 1999 - but Tuomas always writes his lyrics to be individually interpreted - therefore this song (in this version) is used at funerals from time to time. But now Tuomas has written one that will be more used at funerals (including Floor's!!) - in his band Auri (Tuomas, Troy and Tuomas's wife). You will probably get to this later on. Great reaction from you 👍 - it's a phenomenal song and a phenomenal performance.

One of the early Songs, it is about the solar eclips "two hundred and twenty two days of light will be desired by the night". Because that's the amount of time that went by before the eclipse (11th of August was the 223rd day of the year). At that time their german record Label asked to write a song about it. One of the terms was " not longer than 3 minutes", Knowing Tuomas, he made it 4+

@@SueSueandthewolfman Lol, I have watched your version every day now since it came out. Makes me feel lonely und at peace all in the same if that makes sense. As you get older und people you love leave for the eternal fields each loss leaves a hole in your soul, some small some very large. I am full of holes at this point with nothing filling the spaces anymore so stuff like this temporarily fills the void. I will get this off my chest und es ist not for pity just to feel better und explain the song one last time. She died of cancer (es ist never the cancer that ends you) The "Wish for this Night time to last for a Lifetime ist crux of the song. She stopped breathing und I resuscitated her only to find she suffered a massive aneurism und was basically brain dead. It was my decision to take her off life support that evening, but it was that small moment of time that she was still with me. I will not mention this again und thank you again for doing that for me.

Floor on top of her game. Legendary concert (check GLS, that grand finale even surpasses Wacken imho). Floor's parents were there in the audience and were interviewed for Dutch tv. Emotional stuff. Many people associate this song with a sinking of a ship. There are numerous videos on YT of sinking ships with Sleeping Sun by Nightwish, the original version with Tarja on vocals, playing in the background: Britannic, Titanic, Poseidon, Lusitania, Queen Mary 2, Costa Concordia... And the airship Hindenburg disaster, fire. And these videos seem to get a lot of views. One of the Britannic videos with Sleeping Sun has 34 million views in 3 years. Another Nightwish tear jerker is "Our Decades in the Sun" a song dedicated to parents. It was difficult to record in the studio because the whole band got so emotional. As far as I know Nightwish has never performed the song live. There is a video with lyrics. Floor has performed the song live as a solo artist. And one more tear jerker by Nightwish - "Meadows of Heaven". There is a beautiful fan made video by Gonda Huisman. The comments on these two videos tell a lot.

Tuomas are the best composer in the world to write ballads, they are just so beautiful. This was a request song for Tuomas and he really didn't like the idea to be given it has ti be this and that, a ballad, catchy chorus and 3 min, a song about the solar eclips. A song I really think you should also see with Tarja at The End Of An Era concert. It was one of Nightwish biggest hits back then. Thank you, you two really are lovely .

Christ, i swear to God, im a huge nightwish fan, and the minute i think that they cant move me anymore emotionally than they already have, Floor does this. Im a 56 year old man, and a former LEO, and she never, ever, fails to bring tears to my eyes. I love this performance but I feel the Masters of rock performance in 2016 is my favourite. I remember it being one of the first Nightwish songs I ever seen and to this day remains one of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen in my life. sleeping sun was written about the solar eclipse in europe on Aug 10th 1999. the phrase 222 days of light was meaning the sun would be there till Aug 10th. Jan 1st to Aug 10th is 222 days. the music video with tarja singing has the eclipse in the video.

Hi! I've seen all of your Nightwish reactions and i like all of them! I hear and love Nightwish since 1997, i've seen them 3 times live, with the first singer Tarja, this song "Sleeping sun"was live always a highlight and beautiful! I have not seen NW with the 2nd singer Anette, i liked her on the albums but not live - only 3-4 songs are live good with her (for me!), for example the song Scaretale. The last NW conzert was 3 times cancelled in the last 2 years there where i live because that fu..ing Covid virus, i hope NW plays the next conzert here, i'm 100% there! After Nightwish i like the band EPICA most, their singer Simone Simons and Floor are very good friends for many years and they did some songs together, Sancta Terra or Stabat Mater Dolorosa for example, check them out if you have time. I'm sure you would like Epica, if you check them out than look one of the songs "The Skeleton key", "Kingdom of Heaven Part 4" or "Unchain Utopia" from the virtual Epica - Omega Alive show they did last year first. This show/performance is a true masterpiece and i'm sure you also would like it! I hope i see an Epica reaction from you soon and i'm looking forward for your next NW reaction, maybe from the last song "Last ride of the day" from the Wacken '13 conzert? Sleeping Sun was launched on 11th of August 1999, the same day with the solar eclipse which occurred in part of Europe and Asia that year. This was originally done as a "one off" due to some celestial event, I can't remember the details, but I believe they played this at a gig and then added as a b-side song on one of their albums. This is so very good! This is a Tarja era track and Floor does it justice... Did you do "Dead Boys Poem" already? That is my all time favorite Nightwish track... Floor has done it live and it is just beautiful in all shapes and forms.

Very beautiful and moving song. Floor hits it out of the park but this is one of the few songs were I like Tarja's version just a little bit better. Her dark operatic voice is a perfect fit to the music and lyrics. You should check it out if just for yourself. As much as I love this version and prefer Floor as an overall accomplished singer, this song is still owned by Tarja imho.
