First, thank you for the shout-out. You should know that there is no mandatory order in that list, it includes the most successful performances of the band, and the recordings have a good audio-video quality. Often, however, the fans have more appropriate suggestions in the comments, so please don't ignore them. You noticed very well at the end, that their music, even after a decade and behind a screen, carries with it an intensely optimistic energy. And yes, it is felt in the chest, where it "dissolves" the pain and lets you breathe deeply. This energy helped me years ago to overcome difficult moments in life, when the state of tension effectively suffocated me. I'm not a unique case among Nightwish fans, I've heard this in various forms over the years. Likewise, the lyrics, mainly composed by Tuomas, are always significant and often poetic, full of metaphors. Many reactors limit themselves to image and sound, leaving with an incomplete experience. I'm glad that you are one of the relatively few who are perceptive at this level as well. When I was in school, about 3 decades ago :) so before the advent of the Internet, we would gather some friends at the house of one who had a better pickup and listen to an album together, smuggled from beyond the Iron Curtain. Good reactors, like you, remind me of those happy moments of my childhood. Thank you

The things that you seem to appreciate the most about Nightwish is the composition of Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and greatest composer of my long lifetime. He writes most of the lyrics, and about 95% of the music the band plays. Both Tuomas and Floor are empaths and their music and delivery cuts right to your soul. As you progress through their catalog, you will hear that no two songs sound alike, and you will hear many genres and styles, and that is part of the genius of Tuomas. The members of the band are virtuosos in their own right, and they play what best serves the composition, rather than their ego. You will find that your love will grow exponentially with each song. Tuomas composes the orchestrations and has (usually) The London Symphonic Orchestra and Choir record the backing tracks for both albums and live performances. Welcome to the greatest band on the planet. I'm here to join you on your version of the greatest ride of my life!

This a very fun and lovable Nightwish song. I am a 70 year old in service to the Nightwish Army. Before 2019 when I finally had my eyes opened to this band I had decided that there were no more bands of this century that could excite me. I too had never heard of symphonic metal as a genre at that time. My God, what revelation it has been! I encourage you to continue your dive down the NW rabbit hole. Gabriel is a trustworthy guide. For me, this entire 2013 Wacken concert is gold. I’ve witnessed firsthand the great rock icons, starting with the Yardbirds in 1966, and this concert is one of my favorites during all the subsequent years.

I am also 70 and my music journey started with The Moody Blues, who were my first true love, especially when Justin Hayward❤joined the band.The walls of my bedroom were covered with posters of him/them.😅They had also that kind of melodic music. A whole new world (and not in the Disney sense) opened up for me, and I'm still discovering.... and as Monique said - Aahh, the good old days - I would modify that to say: Aahh, the good old days - and Nightwish.....

Suddenly I had this wonderful feeling of sharing that moment together with thousands of fans the same time all over the world. That hit me. Hi Trevor! I discovered NW in 2019 when Floor did the school reunion show on the Dutch TV. And although I'm a Dutchie I had never heard of her and NW. I had the same feeling as you...I didn't like today's music very much. And also not the music my grown up children like. I felt like my parents who didn't like the 70's music haha. And then ...what a fantastic world opened up with NW! And I was sooo exited that I can't remember which song of them I heard first haha. And although I enjoyed the good old days, and my favorite Moody Blues with warm feelings, NW time is the best! Greetings!

💗OMG.💗 You are such a pleasure to watch. Thanks for this great reaction. And I am glad that you took the advice to watch with the subs on. I am sure I was not the only one recommending that, even if I like to think of it that way... ;-). And you are absolutely right: This music is not made for the casual listen. This is not your average Billboard Top 100 junkfood. And my next Nightwish recommendation would be the lyric video for 'Shoemaker'; where Nightwish is paying hommage to Eugene Shoemaker, a planetary scientist and geologist so highly esteemed in the scientific community, that a part of his ashes were interred on the moon. This song, and Floor's delivery of those incredible lyrics make me always tear up. Every single time. With love from Germany, Prog O'Holic

With most bands the pivotal point is the singer. When you have a singer like Floor, you would think this also goes for Nightwish. But for Nightwish almost every song is part of the journey through the mind of Tuomas (on keys, composer). Today you have seen a hint of the Peter Pan complex (fear of growing up and losing innocence) he has had for years. Remember it, because it will come back in many future songs.

@@rientsdijkstra4266 I'm not saying she doesn't and I'm not questioning that...that's part of why this single performance was sort of odd to me...she just seems to be breathing heavier than usual. @@Bombbiggidyphil Bro I think you (and this reactor) are mistaken. First of all I have been a musician for 45 years and I have lots of experience with singers. Secondly I have heard this recording at least 25 times, and I just relistened, to check your remarks. I was already amazed by the reactor using the word "breathless" because I don't hear any breathlessness whatsoever. However, what I do hear is that Floor has a really unsurpassed ability to work with her vocal apparatus to create certain effects, and as Eric Clark said, Floor often has a "security blanket" in her throat. By which he means that Floor often - on purpose! - lets a little bit of breath come into her voice, as an expressive tool that softens up the sound and gives a little satinlike sheen. And now that you say it: I can hear that in certain sentences in this song she is also playing with the airflow, especially in the last notes of sentences. But, as said, that is clearly Floor using her vocal apparatus and playing with it to enrich the expression. NOT breathlessness in the sense of being out of breath. (and by the way how do you think she would sustain those very long powerfull belts at the end if she was "out of breath"?
@Bombbiggidyphil
@Bombbiggidyphil 11 ай бұрын
@@rientsdijkstra4266 Yeah, that could be it...would make a lot more sense than her being short of breath at times in this one single performance. I've always thought when she delivered the "intoxicated" line it was likely on purpose but some other parts seemed questionable. As for the belts...I wasn't thinking she was short of breath the whole song just sounded like it in parts. I'm just stating what I'm hearing...it's different from any other performance I've heard of hers in that regard, but your explanation would make sense.

This whole concert just R O C K S. You saw Floor sing Shallow from Beste Zangers, you need to go back to Beste Zangers and watch Floor and Henk Poort sing Phantom of the Opera - unbelievable - they both will leave your chin on your chest. Wait until you get the "Shudder Before" the Beautiful from Wembley 2015. Ya might want to get a seatbelt and a helmet for that one.

That was wonderful, but I think Nightwish with Floor and Henk performing the song a few years later was better, the Marcel Fisser Band is great but not Nightwish.

@@martinfranzen9151 I like both versions ... the one from 2005 with Tarja & Marco has more drama. The one with Floor & Henk has more grace. A version with Floor & Marco with a mix of drama and grace from both versions would be my absolute dream!

Love your reactions, so pure, we al went through this (and still are). Floor is metal herself, but she can make anything and anyone be metal. Check out Phantom of the opera with Henk Poort, here she inspired a professional classical singer to do his Phantom part metal styled and Floor (and all listening) enjoyed this tremendously.... Keep up the good work..😘🤘🤘 we have a new metal lover...

Another awesome reaction! Yep, they're music can be a bit overwhelming for "newbies" 🙂 I had never heard of symphonic metal until I heard Nightwish. Been a metalhead since I was 10 (in the early 70s) and stumbled across Nightwish in the late 90s. They took everything I knew about rock to a whole new level. The Who, my favorite for years) was instantly dropped from #1 to #2 as my favorite band of all time. 😀

First - glad that you still follow this band. 2nd) Band is still very alive and going strong - they made a tour in Canada and USA 2022, played and gig in a ship called "70 000 Tons of Meta"l 3rd) ""NIGHTWISH vocalist Floor Jansen has given birth to her second child with husband Hannes Van Dahl, who they have named Lucy. In November 2022, Floor shared the uplifting news that she had triumphed over cancer. She had recently undergone surgery to remove a tumor after being diagnosed with breast cancer.."" You have such a journey ahead of you. This team of talented musicians play for the song, and there is no ego involved in what they do. You will get to know the musicians, and find that each one is a master at what they do. Jukka (and later Kai) on the drums, Emppu, who can make that guitar sing what ever song he needs it to sing, Marko, the bassist who is also a superior singer, and whose harmonies with Floor are beyond perfect, Troy, the multi-instrumentalist who you have not seen yet, and behind it all, the rock upon which this band, this supergroup, is built is the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, whose compositional and lyrical skills are world class. This is a band that makes you think, and makes you wonder.

Gabriel is right - no order, except maybe waiting a little bit for "the Poem and the Pendulum", because it is the holy grail of NW songs. And you haven't even scratched the surface 😂. Wacken was the beginning of Floor's journey with NW and they are developing more and more. If you like a sneak preview of what else is coming, please react to "Shoemaker" live Pinkpop 2022. From the last tour. But be careful 😇

RHN: "Wow, she's really bringing it!" Floor: "Hold my beer." 😃 The next one on Gabriel's list is probably either Romanticide or Ever Dream, both at the same concert, Wacken 2013 . Can't go wrong with either, and you'll get to meet Marco in both.

As you progress you'll see that Nightwish really is extraordinary from all facets. You'll appreciate Emppu (Guitar), Marco (bass vocals-no longer with the band), Troy (exotic instruments). But eventually, maybe, you'll see that as extraordinary as Floor is, and as great as the first singer Tarja was, it's Thomas (Keyboard, composer, writer) who is the heart of the band and an extraordinary talent as well. Perhaps Genius with his compositions. I'm approaching 60 and this band not only refreshed my musical juices but it's a top 5 band for me that includes some very lofty names. Now I'm expanding to Epica and Floor's earlier bands and earlier Nightwish and Tarja's solo work... her dammed creepy Christmas song collection is is brilliant.

Hi Red, yeah it’s me back again! What a joy to see you getting bamboozled by Nightwish - don’t worry you’ll get used to it; they’ve never ceased to amaze me! Tarja was good at operatic vocals, Annette was good at more jazzy/poppy vocals but Floor can do all of that and some! It’s probably best to stick with this concert to start with, maybe Phantom of the opera or Shoemaker next, or if you think you might be ready for something a bit heavier Romanticide. Can’t wait for your next one!

Who would have that the unassuming-looking woman in the chair at Beste Zangers would have roots in such a glorious fest of Metal and classical music -merged? And it does get better, and better. Being breathless and 'having to process' is not uncommon... in fact, if someone says they totally get Nightwish at first glance, there is usually bs or buffoonery afoot. Your honesty and appreciation for good music of all sorts makes those around you happy, I assume. I've been playing on a more technically-proficient-but-totally-non-pro mode for (counts fingers/toes/earlobes) longer than you have been alive, and at least as many instruments as on that stage (strings/keys/woodwinds/reeds/the plethora or Irish and Nordic old school instruments) I understand the electrical/electronic/sound creation/reproduction side of things from an engineer's background (1st profession) AND this old fart even went back to school and got that "Dr" thing appended in front of his name, and work in the head/neck area... gives me great appreciation for singers and vocalists of all genres. *NOTHING* prepared me for the all-encompassing joy that is Nightwish... and I just found out about them 2 or 3 years ago. The best part is actually the community. These people are great; they enjoy 'their' band, and they'll guide even the most dense reviewers though the twists and turns... you have a significant leg-up (hm, odd reference, my apologies) on the average viewer in that you know what you know, and you know when you are out of your (previous) comfort-zone but are enjoying it... so many recoil at "difference". I got a feeling : that is not you. Anyway, Buckeye and I go back 6-8 months, and I really appreciate his warmth and learned ear. 6-8 months isn't but a spec in this hopefully long life, but it a friendship, it can be a lifetime. I hope you, Buckeye and all the rest with a voice-that-reaches-out can continue to spread not only the joy of bands like Nightwish (and Epica, and Ayreon and all the interconnected wonder of European metal). It can be life-changing. Or not. Here's to being flexible and appreciative of all that life brings you. Blind Doc Jones : Honorary Nightwish Medical Tent Dentist and mosh pit search-and-rescue tech... and failed philosopher of the Metal Muse.

NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. So happy you are enjoying NightWish. The effect this band has on me, kind of puts what music SHOULD sound like, makes going back to other bands I’ve listened to in the past, seem quite lackluster. Bands I thought were great now just seem ok. This is TRULY the music I have always longed for. Great reaction, keep up the journey! ❤️🤘
