My CURE - 10 years ago my life was turned upside down overnight as I got very ill with menengitis. I didn´t know at the time, but after returning home from hospital I started my descent into darkness. Cognitive problems, anxiety, fatigue, dizziness persisted and started to become my everyday. There were periods I felt depressed, totally empty and my hope was fading. The worst was the guilt that I had in me for destroying the life I had once wanted for my family. I didn´t feel the beauty in life anymore. I was locked in a prison without walls. That was until I seen Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013. I somehow found myself watching it one day. I don´t know where it came from but it was like getting struck by lightning. I cried for the first time in nearly a decade. I couldn´t believe the beauty I felt. It was PURE BEAUTY. I watched it over and over... tears every time. Soon after, I watched this live version of Poet And The Pendulum. I felt so deeply connected to the lyrics. I felt it was written for me. I processed so much pain listening to Poet. I later called it my cure. 1.5yrs on and I´m enjoying my life again, I feel beauty in this world, I am so grateful for my chance to be alive and despite any issues of anxiety and fatigue that still plague me, it´s a wonderful life full of love. Nightwish changed it all for me. I will forever be grateful for Nightwish - the greatest gift to my soul

It can be. Or it can be chronic. I think I was 11 when the idea first occured to me that the world might be better off without me in it. I am now 31, and fighting with everything I have not to be forced to rely on the system to catch me for a third time. After 20 years, you'd think the tears would have dried out. Apparently not. After so long, even with help, it's hard not to wonder if that desease might not be everything you are, after all. That thought isolates you slowly from everything you love...And the magic of this song is precisely that, for 13.56 minutes, the loneliness goes away for a bit. And, as much as you'd wish no one would ever have to feel like that, the relief of not being completely alone overrides the guilt of finding some solace in another person's pain.

@Corey Keller I would characterize it as more of a modern day adaptation of classical composition style where the peice is composed of individual movements that are telling a story. I'm not surprised. Tuomas did say this song was something he had to write as a catharsis, a way for him to kill himself in a song so he didn't do it in real life. @@joguipo Okay, first of all, that is a myth. Also, it would be highly inappropriate for Floor to ask such a thing at a time when she was just a temporary replacement in the band. The opening is done, if I am not mistaken, by Tuomas' wife. Second, Floor and Anette has done the same bits live. There is no difference to their performances in this regard. The both have sung the same sections, Marko did his, and the song has stayed the same when performed. Why this is treated like something awesome is beyond me. Anette did the choirboy thing in all the live performances as well from the start.
@themichaelvedal3 жыл бұрын
@@StarOfArtemis This part, along with the ending, is the weakest part in the song for Floor though. She really can't get to the soft spots that Anette had. Instead she resorts to a halfway thing between wannabe opera and something else to compensate, which doesn't work. She does the same in the ending, which totally ruins it. So no, she is not that good. I did like the performance overall though, but she has never really "gotten" this song the way she has with Ghost Love Score.

@@ShadowZero1980 12:15ish is one of them. From what I remember, he's said in interviews that he doesn't really like to sing publicly, which is why there's never a mic on him at shows. There's one REALLY old album from around the start of Nightwish where you can hear him sing, but that's it. But in many of the live concert recordings, you can see him singing along in some of the most intense emotional moments. This song started out as therapy for him and allegedly helped him not commit suicide, but from what I've heard, it's since become somewhat of a burden to relive every time he performs it. One of my favourite things about this recording is the emotional intensity, especially from those that have been part of the band the longest and who lived through the incidents that led to Tarja leaving and to this album. But you can also tell it's a really rough ride for them.

One thing that pops to mind every time i see this video, is the sheer amount of courage Tuomas must have, to perform such a personal song in front of so many people, he must be revisiting the pain again simply by doing this, and he is handling it insanely well, truly a inspiring person.

I beg to differ though. She does much better on other songs, like (as much as I hate her version of it) Ghost Love Score. This song was not meant for Floor at all, and especially not a voice like hers. The Pacific and the ending is perfect examples of this, since its supposed to be soft, emotional and silky. Floor isn't capable of that kind of voice, which we can hear pretty clearly, and she ends up compensating with a halfway soprano voice that really doesn't fit the song at all. She does the same in the ending. Other than that, she does it perfectly. And if you didn't know it. Marko was supposed to "drown" Anette's voice in the chorus, since his voice is supposed to be the strong one in this song. Here, Floor overpowers Marko, which also kinda ruins the song a bit. Not saying this is a bad performance, because that wouldn't be true. I am saying it could have been better. Still with they would have gotten Anneke van Giersbergen instead of Floor Jansen. That would have been the ultimate band. But one can only dream I guess.

@@NGR79 Everyone can think of the lyrics however they want, but I've never been of the opinion that almost all of them are about Tarja. Couple of them...maybe. I mean, we don't need to go the details, but it has been well-known thing, atleast in Finland, that he has known other women than Tarja in those years. Why "blaming himself?". In my opinion the whole song has this between the lines thing going on blaming himself, kinda disgusted how everything went so badly, wistful how things once were and now this new reality how things are and how he needs to change. He also said in 2007 Tuomas: It’s a very personal song, about the uppermost self hate and self disgust you can feel. The feeling that you’ll never stop doing wrong things in your life. On this song, I actually killed myself. There’s a line that goes like: “Today, in the year of our Lord, 2005, Tuomas was called from the cares of the world”. The heartbeat fades away. But after that comes the resurrection! (laughs) The last tree minutes is like my ressurection. Jesus-like! (laughs) But seriously again, it was something that I really had to do. Is the most ugly and disturbing lyrics I’ve ever wrote, but I needed to do it. Now I feel a certain relief with that.

For me this is by far their best song and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And played by this lineup is a joy to listen to. So sad we will never hear it again like this...
