She says in Finnish that everyone should put their hands up in the air. This song was written by Tuomas (keyboardist) about the Columbine school massacre during which he was an exchange student in the US as it was unfolding on TV and in the media. There is a hidden line that is only depicted on the official lyric sources that mentions 15 ribbons for all the lives lost that day and the line "Good wombs hath born bad sons" was written in Eric Harris' journal, which gives me chills each time I hear that line in this song. As for the other voice, it was speaking lines that the shooters were saying during the massacre, like "Run away with your impeccable kin" and "Time to die poor mates, you made me what I am", etc. Great reaction as always! Do "Romanticide (Live Wacken 2013)" next -- you wont be disappointed! :)

@@BillyYouSoCrazy live in Tampere, Finland!! And here, the lyrics are in " " - so you know what the heck is going on ;) "Archaean horizon, The first sunrise" Earth's history is divided into four principal Eons: the Hadean, the Archean, Proterozoic, and the Phanerozoic. The Hadean is the Eon during which the Earth and Moon formed; in the Archaean, primordial life appeared. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Earth) "On a pristine gaea" Gaia is the primordial Greek goddess of the Earth. More recently, the Gaia hypothesis is a recognition of the living and nonliving Earth systems which form an interdependent whole. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia) "Opus perfectum, Somewhere there, us sleeping" Pristine perfection (of silence, of a blank page, of the very point from which the big bang itself sprung) implies a rich creative potential. Here Earth is painted in the same powerful way. Diversity awaits; unborn beings are sleeping the same sleep to which they will return at death. This interpretation is thematically linked with the album's opening track, "Shudder before the Beautiful," which includes the lyrics, "The music of this awe, Deep silence between the notes, Deafens me with endless love." Or as the furious hobbit screamed at the novice trumpeter, "An artist respects the silence, it serves as the foundation of creativity." (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3aZY5x3a7B2f7M) [Part 2: Life] "The cosmic law of gravity Pulled the newborns around a fire, A careless cold infinity in every vast direction. Lonely farer in the Goldilocks zone" Gravity pulls the Earth and its inhabitants around the energizing Sun in an otherwise inhospitable universe. Earth is the only planet in our solar system's circumstellar habitable zone, orbiting at the "just right, not too hot, not too cold" distance from the Sun. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumstellar_habitable_zone) "She has a tale to tell, From the stellar nursery into a carbon feast, Enter LUCA" In astronomy, stellar nurseries are the birthplaces of stars: they nurse stars (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_formation#Stellar_nurseries). Poetically, our solar system is another "stellar nursery," in which a star is the nurse, caring for and warming a planet of 'newborns,' early carbon-based life. "Feast" evokes the incorporation of plentiful chemical building blocks into rudimentary life forms. "LUCA" stands for "Last universal common ancestor," the one single organism from which all other presently existing life on Earth descended. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_universal_ancestor) "The tapestry of chemistry is a writing in the garden, Leading us to the mother of all" The periodic table of elements does look like a sort of patchwork tapestry, but this can go further. The historical function of tapestries was as "nomadic murals," pictographical histories which moving people could pack up and revisit wherever they went. The "writing in the garden," in nature, is not only the stone murals left by dead animals in the form of fossils, but is also this chemical writing that encodes the relatively nomadic DNA molecule with the instructions for life. The scientific investigation of this information leads us back to LUCA, and further. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapestry#Function) "We are one, We are a universe," This is the natural conclusion to draw from the fact that life shares common origin, that all life is built with the same blocks, and that all life on Earth is interdependent (gaia hypothesis). The multiplicity of beings on Earth are one, just as the cells in a body are one. "Forebears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea." The Devonian geologic time period marked the first significant, rapid diversification of life (and the more well-known Cambrian explosion is another of these 'adaptive radiation' events). It was during the Devonian that the 'higher plants' appeared and blanketed the continents with forests. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devonian). The word "scion" refers to a shoot of a plant cut for grafting, and is also used to denote a descendent of a notable family. Both meanings apply. "Aeons pass, Writing the tale of us all. A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth" Evolutionary adaptation is written in the DNA and as fossils in the rocks, and is ongoing. Species die, diversifiy and delineate. Every day is different, every day something changes. "Ion channels welcoming the outside world To the stuff of stars" Ion channels are found in the membranes of all cells, controlling the flow of energy through the cells. The stuff of stars is all the physical matter we're made of. So it's the ion channels, guiding enery, which allow living bodies to interact with the rest of the world by exchanging energy with it. "Stuff of stars" is surely a Sagan reference: "The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff." (For fun: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jniuaWeGpMqspM0) "Bedding the tree of a biological holy, Enter life" The bed of a tree is the nutrient-rich soil from which it grows, a soil made of dead things. The "tree of a biological holy" is probably the tree of life (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_life). This line refers to the "holy" legendary tree of everlasting life but also means the conceptual, branching family tree of all life, whose bed consists of all deceased beings (in a more literal sense), or all extinct ancestral species (in a more abstract sense). This is thematically linked with the song "Alpenglow." "We are here to care for the garden, The wonder of birth Of every form most beautiful" "We" could be human beings tasked with acting as nature's stewards, garden of eden style, but that's not chronological -- human beings haven't quite appeared in the song yet. "We" could instead be all of life itself, in a gaia-philosophy sense, which posits that life creates environments ever more hospitable to more life. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_philosophy) Or maybe it's a combination of these two thoughts: life eventually creates an environment suitable for the development of consiously acting, thinking human stewards. [Part 3: The Toolmaker] "After a billion years, The show is still here. Not a single one of your fathers died young." Every single one of a given person's ancestors, male and female, lived past puberty at least. But "fathers" evokes "forefathers," which has a nicer storytelling ring to it than "parents." "The handy travelers Out of Africa Little Lucy of the Afar" Handymen are good with tools; travelers posessing hands rather than forefeet walk upright. Hominids originated in Africa and spread to the rest of the world from there. Lucy is a particular specimen of the Australopithecus, one of many "missing links" between modern humans and nonhuman ancestors. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_(Australopithecus)) "Gave birth to fantasy, To idolatry, To self-destructive weaponry. Enter the God of gaps Deep within the past. Atavistic dread of the hunted!" The brain grows, consciousness and creativity along with it. Atavism is the tendency to revert to ancestral type, an evolutionary throwback. Fight-or-flight instincts that helped human ancestors survive have now been creatively projected onto the world to both explain it (origins, meaning, suffering) and gain security in it (bargaining through sacrifice). These are the roots of theism. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atavism) "Enter Ionia, the cradle of thought, The architecture of understanding. The human lust to feel so exceptional, To rule the Earth" Nomadic people develop agriculture and settle down into civilizations. The word "architecture" is at once both literal and figurative. The efficiency of civilization graces people with free time to do more than just feed themselves. They develop rich cultural traditions, arts and philosophies, much of which are deeply influenced by how different humans now are from all the rest of life. "Hunger for shiny rocks, For giant mushroom clouds, The will to do as you'd be done by." Shiny rocks are wealth: gold, precious stones, jewels, and later uranium which leads to the nuclear arms race. The golden rule -- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" -- is a coin with a dark side: "an eye for an eye," revenge. This ensures the "MAD"ness of mutually assured destruction. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_assured_destruction) "Enter history, the grand finale. Enter ratkind." "Ratkind" comes from Richard Dawkins' book "The Ancestor's Tale." Dawkins imagines a post-apocalyptic world in which rodents feast on the remnants of humanity (and humanity's garbage). The rat population explodes, and then as they exhaust these resources they turn on one another for food. As a consequence of natural selection, the rats diverge into new carnivorous and herbivorous species, and perhaps, eventually, a specices of rodent whose intelligence rivals that of humans. This is "ratkind." (iberianature.com/wildworld/tag/ratkind/) "Man, he took his time in the sun, Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand." From William Blake: "To see a World in a Grain of Sand, And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour." ...And the story of the planet in 24 minutes. Not bad. "He gave birth to poetry, But one day'll cease to be. Greet the last light of the library" A bittersweet redundancy: poetry with library, the last light with ceasing to be. Reminiscent of Elan: "Be the first to greet the morn [...] Travel with great élan, dance a jig at the funeral." "We were here!" Who else is going to vote for this song's inclusion on the next Voyager golden record, if there'll ever be one? I want to beam this song into space forever.

Hello Billy. For more of the original Nightwish, check out the From Wishes to Eternity" DVD. It's here on KZbin. Also check more of End or an Era, like the Phantom of the Opera cover. Neo-nightwish is still a good band and their newer singers are good in their own way, but Tarja is golden and she was the essence of Nightwish. She was the inspiration for the entire concept and her style gave them a unique and special sound that defined a whole new genre of metal music. Also check out Tarja's solo work with her own band from ACT I and ACT II.

I love Tarja, Annette and Floor. Tarja is my fave, since I listen to Nightwish for last 17 years. Let's leave repetative BS who is better behind, but imagine being grown ass woman, who found love, to tour with bunch of drunk guys in the bus (what was shown on early documentary movies). She did more than well with them in that case. Still, she was telling them she will be with them for a one album more and than she quits 'cause of her solo career. And that was more than enough to prepare them. It's her right to do it so. Everyone has it's own goals and destiny. But boys will be boys... dismiss letter?? Cringy as fuck. Still love Nightwish :)

Nice- a biased history lesson which says to leave the repetitive Bs behind( but you were sure to add that Tarja was your fav).. Well, I admire Nightwish as a band and truth told, I prefer the last 4 albums starting with Once.( I do enjoy a few songs from each of the previous albums too).. As far as the singers, I would prefer Anette( as long as she was not singing the songs made for Tarja), to Tarja. For me, Floor Jansen is the best.. BUT as I said- I admire Nightwish- the band.

Great art is always something unique and different from anything that comes before it. That's what the original Nightwish was. It was a special and unique combination of metal music and operatic style vocals combined with metal music with heavy classical influences. Neo-nightwish is still a good band and Floor is good metal and rock singer, but it was Tarja that made Nightwish what they were and neo-nghtwish, though good, is not the same. Tarja and her vocal ability and style was a fundamental integral part. In fact, the truth be told, she was the inspiration for the entire concept. We know this to be fact because tuomas himself says it on the END of Innocence DVD. By his own words, tuomas original plan was for him, Emppu and Tarja to record a Folk music project, probably something like his current Folk music project Auri. However, while he and Emppu had been away in the army, Tarja had been to school studying classical style singing. So, when they actually got together to record, tuomas and Emppu were surprised and shocked, in a good way, in the kind of vocalist Tarja had become. As a result the plan changed and the concept of a blend of classical operatic styled vocals combined with bombastic metal music was born. That would later gain the name Nightwish. In that instant not only was Nightwish born but a whole new genre that would be known as symphonic metal. if you want to know what the essence of Nightwish is really about listen to the early stuff from Wishes to Eternity to End of an Era. That's the stuff that defined Nightwish and created the whole new genre of symphonic metal. But there was a fatal flaw from the very beginning. Tarja view and relationship with tuomas was always that of just a friend. That was always the case for her I think from the time they first met when Tarja's mom arranged for her to take piano lesson and the teacher just happened to be tuomas mother. However, it seems that things were very different for tuomas. We can see this in the lyrics of songs like She is my Sin, Everdream, Passion and the Opera, and Ghost love score. Knowing that the woman he loved did not see him in quite the same way, tuomas turned to the bottle. Opportunist moved in who took advantage of tuomas weakness, insecurity, and alcoholism to take charge of the management of his band when he fired the original bassist Sam Vanska. These opportunist had conflicting interest and greed of their own. They disliked the fact Tarja had someone to look after her own interest, her own manager, because this got in their way of exploiting the band for their own financial gain. They found they could leverage tuomas jealousy to their own advantage against Tarja's manager, who is also her husband and that's exactly what they did.

The j is pronounced like a y. Tarya Tarja was going to leave after the next album to start a solo career. Her husband was also her manager. She was not putting time into Nightwish because she was taking voice lessons and doing things to get ready for her solo career. They did not travel with the band. She was refusing to tour in North America. But it really was her husband that was trying to control the band. So the band decided to fire her. Tuomas (key board player) wrote this song about the Columbine School shootings. Tuomas read about it and was upset about it, so he wrote this song about it. That is what Tuomas does when things bother him or if it is something he is interested in. The part where you did not know what she was saying was in Finnish. That concert was in Finland. Thanks for playing this song. It is so nice to be going on this Nightwish journey with you. would you play Nightwish song "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013. Thank you............ :-)

Billy, Tarja was talking in finnish, her language. About you saying they switch singers, Tarja was the first Nightwish singer. She left the band in 2005, then was Annete Olzon who got in the band in 2006, if i'm not mistaken'd. Annete left in 2012/13 because of an health problem, and then was time for Floor Jansen got in the boat. Floor is responsible to make a new legion of fans start loving, again, for Nightwish. I dare to say that she's responsible for the fans to make the trews with the band. And now, they are super alive, even more than back in 2005, before Tarja left. Oh, i forgot to say, Tarja left the band because some "fights" with the other members of the band. By the way, can you give a shout for me in your next reaction video? Peace brother!!!!

This song is about the Columbine shootings. There is a video on KZbin with Tarja in tears after the public split happened that is very difficult to watch. I think in hindsight things would have been done differently if they had the chance. Many people consider Annette a rebound singer, but NW took a long time selecting her amidst a worldwide search. Annette was with the band for a good long time and sang on two epic albums.

If you wanna go a bit of a different direction, I encourage you to check out "Endless Dream" by the band Yes. It is a 15+ minute song, but WELL WORTH IT! On a personal note, it is 1 of the very few songs I have ever heard that gave me goosebumps. But, each person is different so it may not do that to you (should you listen to it) or anyone else. But, at the very least, I am getting my recommendation out for a song by my personal favorite band. *Cheers to you, Billy!*

"Band resbonded saying no you don't do one More album go to solo right now." Unfortunately, that's not exactly how they responded. They responded by lying to her face and pretending to agree, but secretly having private meeting without her where they plotted and planned to fire her by surprise at the end of the tour with a huge drama play which they would exploit for profit. They would exploit it in every way, by hiring a writer from the record labels PR department to write a book, by filming and releasing that final show after which they would do the deed, and they would exploit it on their next album Dark drama play which would include songs about it. They played it to the max and threw her under the bus so they could cash in on maximum profit. It's so ironic, that they were the ones who accused her of greed. Yet the way they planned this huge drama play at her expense and milked it for as much cash as possible tells us just the opposite was true.Clearly, they were the ones truly motivated by greed.

Tarja is pronounced Taria. J has a long e sound in that region of the world. I only know that because an old gaming friend of mine used to spell Soviet like Sovjet. And I asked him what was with the j, and he was like, I thought that's how it was spelled. I'm like No man, never seen that before in my live, we spell it like Soviet.

the band basically was getting fed up with her behavior as they claim she was becoming to much a diva and having an attitude that was not in sync with the rest of the band etc...after this very concert she returned to her dressing room and found a note where in said note the band fired her.
@winchester7861
@winchester7861 5 жыл бұрын
She read the note in the plane in the version I read !😉it was also because of her husband and some issue with him and the rest of the band ( I read that there was a fight between Jukka the drummer and tarja's husband but I don't know if it's true after this concert ) and she also planned to leave the band after the next album and tour
@FemaleMetalLover
@FemaleMetalLover 5 жыл бұрын
That story should be taken with a grain of salt, and has many contradictions. Tarja was like nightquest78 mentioned already planning to leave. Thing is, even as the band knew she was going to leave, they stringed her allong the remaining tour for 6 months, protending everything was OK and lied to her face, knowing they where going to fire her in a spectacular way after Hartwall Arena, even though they had agreed she would stay for one more album and do one more world tour. Calling her a money hungry diva? If money didn't matter, why not part ways right away and cancel the tour? Why make a viral media fuzz out of something that is very private? Why use this as a way to promote the next album? Why promote this spectacular departure even TODAY with the re-release of the DVD? This is childish, immature, and cunning behaviour, and anyone who cant see that needs a course on psychology. The reason for firing Anette was just ridicilous, again, if money and fame doesn't mater, why not just cancel the remaining tour and be supportive of a member who was in critical medical condition, instead making decisions without her as if her opinion does not mater?
@winchester7861
@winchester7861 5 жыл бұрын
Because cancellations are expensive and insurance companies won't give money for that reason ( grave maladies or weather conditions can be covered but not firing a member ) that's why they brought Floor and she had to learn the lyrics in less than 48 hours when they fired Annette

R with a strong trill. The English R acts as a lengthened wovel when it follows a wovel (car, turtle, turn), instead as a consonant, that's why they say the A in Tarja so long.

There is no “real” video or “official live video” of this Nightwish song (wish there was), but I believe it’s the BEST of Anette Olsen’s reign as one of their front women. The Escapist. Her version of Amaranth is better than floor’s imo as well. Just the way it’s written I feel. Although!!!! Both Tarja and Floor do a beautiful rendition of over the hills together.
