So for Matt Heafy, He originally started Trivium with these type of vocals. (Check out "upon the shores") then after a couple albums and tours he completely lost his voice and they dropped 2 albums with just cleans. Fast forward to the sin and the sentence and he learned a new technique to bring the harsh back. Fast forward to now, he has remastered the old technique in a safe and better way and is now doing it in streams.
