Make no mistake about it - signing Michael Jordan was THE turning point to appealing to the masses for Nike. Probably the best business move of all time. Crazy to think Jordan hasn’t left and stayed loyal all these years you don’t get that loyalty from these new athletes anymore.

That's because no other brand can afford to pay him and treat him the way Nike does even today. They treated him like Royalty and paid him a ridiculous amount of money no other brand could come close

@@shaunharn1998 deservedly so… They wouldn’t be who they are with all the success by their own admission! MJ is royalty! He never robbed himself, fans and the game of basketball and has and is reaping his rewards! Nike is one lucky company to have a face like MJ! Phil’s one of the happiest entrep in the shoe industry!💥 Great partnership

Very easy to be “loyal” when you’re given everything you need.

@@Johnny-xj5qu every athlete gets “everything they need” now and more, yet they’re getting into disputes with their employers over money, perks, clauses in contracts etc. so your argument is flawed cos I’ve just dismantled it. Try again mate…

MJ could start his own Shoe company separately from Nike and his shoes would still sell out. People would continue to buy Jordan's from the Nike corporation as well. Instant millions for Jordan if he really wanted it to happen.

@@Malleus2010 No I don't think I am. If the man is selling cars as well as cologne, golf clubs, wallets, etc etc. I'm sure selling his own brand of shoes would be a walk in the park. He's made millions for Nike, so I'm sure he's very capable in doing his own line of shoes for himself.

@@roddalewynn3321 , ya Jordan can sell anything with his own brand but he also will have to spend on whatever he sells, in other words he will have to do the real work...nike pays the marketing, the labor, the materials, the estate, the licenses etc etc...his cut will be less...

Jordan didn't know about creating a business at that time, nor did he care to. Was he suppose to stop playing basketball to start and run a full time business? Who would be his brand since he wouldn't be playing. The guy is a billionaire, owner of a basketball team and gets 130 million a year from Nike just for his name, and you still find a way to criticize the man. SMDH. Black folks do more to tear down black people than anyone else. What company have you built? Didn't think so.
