I've been waiting on Kofuzi to review 4%'s for months - love it. Great review, as usual. I am nowhere near worthy of owning these shoes at my avg. pace, but after owning a few pairs and putting a lot of miles in them, full length ZoomX + the carbon fiber plate does something for my legs, hips and knees which I can't get in any other shoes currently. My legs feel better, my knees feel fresher and my hips don't get as sore with long runs - which to me, is worth the price tag. When I do find myself picking up the pace and getting into a good zone, this shoe will put you on autopilot if you're mindful of your form. While these are for fast runners, which I'm far from, the benefits of how I feel after the run are what really make me love them so much.
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
i think you're on to something with the autopilot. i found myself getting into rhythms and not noticing that miles had passed. those tended to be the faster miles, as well.
@brightcab86 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting thread. I’d like to hear more about this “auto-pilot.” Does it feel like the shoe reduces stress on the legs?
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
perhaps. but it more just feels like nothing. sometimes, when i'm not training for a specific race, i will try to meditate on a long run. it kind of feels like that. maybe it's reducing stress that enables that. not sure. needs further investigation.

Great honest and thorough review kofuzi! As always, loved it. I also wanted to mention that I am a new mother, that has just recently really seriously gotten into improving my running. Watching your videos, especially how you prioritize getting your runs in, even with the many things you have on your docket, particularly as a parent, is inspirational to say the least. I really struggled to get back into the game after my daughter was born early this year, but its videos and inspirational runners such as yourself that have played a pivotal role in motivating me to meet my goals, and then some. I have even managed to get my husband hooked on to your videos, and as a result we are both collectively training harder now than ever before. So thank you for sharing your passion for running with us! Please don't stop!

I really feel you on the mental aspect of having such a shoe. I recently bought the Zoom Elite 10 (such an underrated shoe and it feels so responsive!) and the shop salesman insisted on me taking a more cushioned shoe like the Pegasus, although I told him I don't like too much cushioning and simply wouldn't enjoy running in it. That douchebag started asking me question about my 10k PRs in such a rude way, just to sell me the more expensive shoe that I didn't want. I often asked myself whether I needed top of the line running shoes, but after meeting that "expert" I simply buy what I enjoy and don't let negative thoughts from other people into my head. Cheers!

i've expressed on numerous occasions how i'm not the biggest fan of how running stores are doing things these days. i'm glad that you stuck to your guns and got the shoe you wanted. the Elite is a shoe that i've been wanting to try for a while. i just have not gotten around to it yet. and i worry that this will be the last year of them.

Hi Kofuzi. Love your channel. It's very informative and fun to watch. Just want to ask you about the 4%. Did you find any groove or flex or horizontal line that runs across the insole of the shoes after you worn them? I realised that on mine both inside of the shoes have those lines where the shoes tend to flex. Is this a common thing in 4%? Thanks.

i would definitely run in them again (although for other reasons, i will be running in a different shoe for the indy marathon next saturday). by the end of the Chicago Marathon, the shoes still felt fantastic. i ran a half marathon in another shoe over the weekend (check back for Tuesday's video) and my feet were feeling the impact of the miles much more noticeably than running a marathon in the vaporfly

I will try it out a few times on my hard long runs, but if the arch irritates my foot, then there’s no way I’m going to run with it. In the past Nike shoes have irritated my plantar fascia, everyone is different though...I usually race in Adidas boost or New Balance RC1400 so hoping for good things from the Vaporfly 4% :)

Love your reviews. On this shoe's review: 1) Did you try to bend this shoe? Not bendable, period. For me that stiffness and shape of the carbon plate throws me onto my forefoot; find this shoe awkward in fact to walk in or run at 'slow' paces! Found it very interesting that doesn't seem to be your experience. 2) Fit. I wear this shoe one size (12) smaller than my Zoom Fly SP (13) and a half size smaller than my Pegasus 35 and Turbo (12.5) -- are you in the same size in all your Nike's? 3) Wet -- I wore the original 4% at Boston '18; enough said -- they drain well, better than any deck shoe I've owned LOL Seriously, my feet could not have been wetter and no blisters. Good luck with your goals on Sunday and have fun. See you at the start line!

@@kofuzi I stayed TTS on zoomfly fk and went up a 1/2 size on vaporfly fk based on several website recommendations. I measured (though not extremely accurate) the two and they seem to be the same size length. If pushed, I likely could have gone TTS on the vaporfly, but I don't prefer a very tight shoe. Heel lock on the vaporfly was a bit tricky though (over-tightened on one shoe for a marathon and had to re-tie).

Excellent review! So for a training/everyday shoe you'd go ZoomFly FN and VaporFly FN as a race day shoe (because of price)? Where would the Peg Turbo and reg Peg stack up in your rotation? Thanks for the amazing content!!
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
there's four shoes in the Zoom family, although i think there's really five+ if you include the Epic React and it's cousins (Odyssey and Legacy). I think a person _needs_ two or maybe three shoes. Pegasus/Epic React for recovery days and lighter runs, Turbo/Zoom Fly for longer/faster runs or interval/speedwork, and Vaporfly for racing. Or skip the Vaporfly if you're only using two shoes. For me and my distances, I prefer the Zoom Fly over the Turbo. But if I ran shorter races where I did interval or speedwork more frequently, I'd probably prefer the Turbo. I think the two shoes can sit in the same spot in most people's rotation, depending on what they're doing.

I may be in the minority on this position (i.e. Shalane Flanagan thinks the Turbo makes for a great marathon shoe), but I prefer the Turbo for shorter races and the Zoom Fly for longer. The Turbo makes me want to have a really fast cadence. And the Zoom Fly with it's carbon fiber plate make me want to have a strong smooth stride.
@Lazarky96 жыл бұрын
yeah for me im the opposite lol. Turbo cushioning i love for the long run, i dont get quite a good spring on the front tho (but im a slower runner, your paces kill me lol). the normal zoom fly, i feel springy and like for my short faster runs. i guess thats why they make so many shoes right?? Also Nike sneakily dropped the Zoom Structure 22, no one noticed?? im actually planning to do a 150 mile review of my structure 21's

When you had taken your long break from running, when you started running again how long did it take you to beable to run farther distance. Did u follow a training schedule or did u just start running
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
i ran only half marathons in that first year back. i was running mostly 4-6 miles a couple times per week. i don't think i have those training logs (i'm not sure i was even logging them). but what i would generally recommend is to focus more on weekly mileage than any one distance. don't worry about paces or speedwork - just build up that mileage base. i didn't really have a training schedule until i started training for a marathon over a year later. i just went out as frequently as i could, which means staying healthy and uninjured, more than anything. doesn't matter how fast you can run if you can't run because you're hurt.

Remember to taper! I know you like to push it most days! ;) Good luck for the marathon. As long as you’re properly rested and have enough gels/bars, you’ll do great.

@@kofuzi add Stravistix, a free chrome extension, then sync all your strava runs. The chart will show your fitness vs fatigue. For a marathon you probably want form at +10 to +15. The rest of the time, your body can be continuously fatigued to make steady progress, so less than -10. Hope that helps mate.

Kofuzi, the Vaporfly Flyknit is 0.1 ounces lighter in a size 11 compared to the OG Crimsons. I have photos of both on a scale if you'd like.

I will certainly take your word for it. But from someone who used to weigh things for a living, I'm probably just going to consider the two to be about equivalent.

These shoes have zoomx 😊.. how does that compare to the "react foam" in the zoom fly flyknit version. Btw do these and the zoom flyknit fit the same?
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
to me, they fit the same. the shoes look the same, but they are very very different. i think there's two ways to think of these shoes. you can use the vaporfly for race day and the zoom fly for interval days or tempo runs. or, you can look at it as, if you like the epic react, consider the zoom fly flyknit for race day. but if you like the pegasus or the turbo, consider the vaporfly. it's not a perfect relationship, but that's how i've generally been directing people.

@@kofuzi Thanks and yea I've used a few Pegasus shoes starting back at the 28! lol Only problem there's no vaporfly at the store to try on smh lol. Pegasus Turbo or Zoom fly Flyknit probably works until another colorway of vaporfly releases.

Any differences in the lacing from the Zoom Fly Flyknit? On that shoe the laces are extra long and I keep wishing for another lace loop farther back to lock in my heel. Cranking down the laces helps, but not a perfect solution. Hoping to get a pair of 4% too though.

i'll take another look to see if there are any minor differences, but the offest pattern and number of lace loops seems to be the same

Just got mine through local run store! For those wondering, I feel these are perfectly snug and secure in my same Nike size. I think they fit better than the Zoom Fly Flyknit - just a little more snug all around but somehow the toes don't feel as pinned down. Definitely can recommend same size.

hello there kofuzi! How would you compare the fit of this shoe to the zoom fly sp?
@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
i like the fit of flyknit, as it feels both snug and flexible. The overall foot shape of the SP is pretty similar, so other than the material differences, the only way i really feel a difference is in the forefoot (i wasn't a huge fan of the tongue on the SP) and in the heel.
@angelorodriguez59856 жыл бұрын
I wore 7.5 in the zoom fly sp and the original zoom fly. The fit is fine for me. I ordered vaporfly 4% flyknit at size 7.5 and I am thinking if should change it to size 7. Since I have read that both zoom fly sp and the orig. zoom fly runs small.

@kofuzi6 жыл бұрын
i really love these and wish i could run in them all the time and walk around in them and basically want to live in them. but it'll depend on what our budget is and how you like the Turbo. I personally preferred the Turbo for shorter races due to the fast turnover feeling that it gives me. If that were my race shoe, I might want to have a Pegasus or Epic React for longer or slower days. But if you like the Turbo as a trainer and want something more for race day, the Vaporfly is definitely a great option. Zoom Fly flyknit is also a great option, but the ride is quite different.
